Re: QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024 standalone (non-subscription) version.
"We're here to help you" says the QB team member........ IF you really wanted to help your customers, you would offer a QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024 stand-alone version, no subscription necessary. When you give the customers what they want at an affordable price, THAT is helping them.
several weeks after the dreaded "QB will no longer support QBDT Pro 2021" has taken effect, and I am doing fine using my QBDT Pro 2021 and my bank's merchant services to take credit cards. QuickBooks promised me that my program would no longer be able to do anything via the internet-- but why am I seeing pop-up messages every time I go to enter a client's payment by check onto my system? these messages remind me that I don't have access to merchant services, and tell me I need to buy the new subscription model. -How do I stop these annoying messages from appearing?
We can modify the Preferences in the QuickBooks Desktop 2021 program to stop receiving unexpected prompts while doing your tasks, TPG Desktop. I'll show you how.
The pop-up messages serve as a helpful reminder on the system. Since this kept on appearing while recording clients' payments, I suggest following the steps below to prevent from seeing any advertisements.
Additionally, you can run and customize various sales reports in QuickBooks to ensure you track your clients' transactions accurately.
I'm all ears if you'd like to share other concerns or questions about QuickBooks and its features. Please let me know by clicking the Reply button. I'm always here to assist you.
That box has been checked for a few years.....the messages are popping up despite that.
Your payroll will no longer work after May 31 - I had to purchase subscription 2024 Desktop and NOW I find out that I can no longer purchase Basic Payroll - it will have to be Enhanced for around $550 month + monthly per employee (we only have 2)
Does ANYONE have any suggestions for a stand along payroll app/program? I am so so fed up with all the changes to Quickbooks.
Thank you!
And now whenever I try and pay my employees it takes me to some stupid screen telling me I need to upgrade my payroll and I can't exit out of that screen. When I reboot it takes me right back there...... :((((( Have I said how much I HATE HATE HATE this program?
QB will lose customers but they believe that the process will be slow since there is not an easy alternative or a clear migration path (and they may have gotten that right in the short-term, but they will lose in the long-term).
It's $550 per year for enhanced payroll, and not per month?
Many many options for payroll service providers for small companies like yours. I am working on it as well. Paychex, Gusto, even ADP.
Intuit's greed has created a lot of (former) users who feel as disgusted as you do.
Look into OnPay for payroll services as well.
It's $550 per year plus a monthly charge of $6 per employee. I think my Basic Payroll was around $325 year - no monthly fee. I just think the yearly charge is awfully high for 2 employees and hope I can find something else that would be cheaper - other than doing it manually.
Let me share some clarification about the pop-up message you received in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), TPG Desktop.
The pop-up message you received is a reminder to upgrade your QBDT account to continue using the services, such as receiving critical security updates, protecting your data, and accessing live technical support if you run into problems or any other Intuit services integrated with QBDT.
For more details, refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
With regards to your concern, Kelly270. QBDT Payroll Basic and Standard are no longer offered. Thus, you'll be moved to QBDT Payroll Enhanced version.
Please note that the enhanced version offers the added benefit. Among these are:

Furthermore, I'm attaching this article for future reference in case you want to import or export data from QBDT: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.
Keep me updated in the comment section if you have further questions or concerns about managing your Desktop account. I'm always around to help you.
I am aware of the services discontinuation policy. My policy on continuing to get pop-ups is that I do not want them anymore. Please advise how to stop them.

This is their way of giving you a grace period. Don't be surprised if you suddenly can't use any of these features in the next few weeks or months.
Thanks for reaching back to us, @TPG Desktop. We recognize that dealing with pop-ups is disruptive to your workflow.
I agree with 4Gal's response. There's no option to disable the update pop-up in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This notification serves as a means to inform users about the importance of keeping their QBDT up to date. Upgrading allows users to access the latest features and make the most of product enhancements.
As you move forward, it might be helpful to explore the QuickBooks Online plans and pricing page for detailed information on available options.
I'm still all ears if you've got any other QBDT-related concerns. It's always our pleasure to help. Take care.
I have no desire to "upgrade" to any subscription model. I do not need the services that were discontinued. I WANT THE POP-UPS TO STOP! Please advise how to do this.
Try to disable your merchant service feature.
I have been using Qbooks Desktop for over 30 years, once Intuit sold to outside the USA they began charging for renewal every 3 years, if you don't renew they will shut Qbooks down. They control the program and one day you will suddenly not be able to login and when you contact them they say "we no longer support that version" and you will be forced to buy . I never logout of my Qbooks but they have the power to shut it down. The pop ups cant be turned off and they eliminated the option to turn off "updates". They have been pushing hard to get everyone to use the monthly online version and when people refused they simply decided to start charging outrageous prices for the desktop version. I have CPA's that have paid $1400.00, some paid $800 and I was charged $695.00 for a one year subscription and now reading this thread some are paying $550.00 and in March they listed the 2024 version for $4,000.00 so they are not playing fare. They are simply price gauging because they know we have no other options. Everyone wants money every month and does not care about its consumers.
I recognize the importance of taking the update pop-ups out of the software, @TPG Desktop and @Kironelson.
We're committed to creating user-friendly financial tools that assist you today and adapt as your needs evolve. However, achieving this balance involves enhancing QuickBooks Desktop for ease of use while maintaining support for older versions.
Every three years, we discontinue older version of QBDT. Please know that you'll still be able to use the program, but you won't have access to Intuit online services. This includes live technical support, QuickBooks Desktop payroll, QuickBooks Payments, and bank feeds. Additionally, discontinued versions won't receive the latest critical security patches and updates.
Currently, there isn't a direct way to disable these pop-ups within the software. However, your feedback is highly valuable and can be used to make product requests to our engineering team. Here's how you can send your feedback:
Additionally, I'll include some resources if you're considering upgrading your desktop program and accessing your files with Intuit:

They are simply price gauging because they know we have no other options
You have another option IF you don't need to run any add-ons. e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment
When I look at some of these other options, honestly they aren't that much cheaper per month ($40 vs. $45) so I may just suck it up and go with QB Enhanced. I hate how they are forcing us to buy what we really don't need or want. I also keep getting a screen today when I try and pay my employees that I can't get out of. It keeps saying my payroll plan expires in 23 days, but won't let me bypass screen or pay employees :((((( UGH I hate this.
Only 2 - LOL
This is not the experience we want you to live with, Kelly. I'll share some fixes to resolve this issue with the screen that keeps popping up when you try to pay your employees.
I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps to fix this software issue using QuickBooks Tool Hub. It will resolve system glitches that prevent your QuickBooks from opening.
Follow these steps to proceed:
Feel free to read this article for complete details: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
If the issue remains, I recommend contacting the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Support team directly. They will provide further troubleshooting steps and get back to paying your employees smoothly.

The Community will always have your back if you need support running your business in your QBO account. Assistance is just one click away. Have a great day!
Apparently the only fix is to go ahead and pay for new subscription - even though my current one has 3 more weeks - hate this software.
You can renew your QB Desktop license thru a partner and get $100 cashback.
We use Gusto for our small business payroll. MUCH more affordable.
