Quickbooks Enterprise QBE 2021 Multi-User problems

Hello.  I have a problem with QBE 2021 and multi-user access.

Two machines.  Machine 1 has the files, machine 2 is on the network.

Machine 1 has hosting turned on, IS running DB Mgr with no errors.  All three services (Monitoring, QB server and QB database 31 is running, no errors. Firewall is OFF.

NO network problems, the shared path CAN be reached without problem from machine 2.

NO network problems, can ping, can get to files, NO network problems.

Machine 2 CAN open the company file in single user mode without issue.

IF machine 1 user logs into Quickbooks on machine 1 FIRST, then and ONLY then can machine 2 open Quickbooks on machine 2 in multi-user mode.

IF machine 1 is NOT logged in first, then machine 2 canNOT open Quickbooks in multi-user (Error: H202).

I have ALREADY reviewed and checked the standard H202 "help" file - which was no help.

Please advise on this problem and how to fix it so machine 2 can log in Quickbooks in multi-user mode withOUT needed machine 1 to be logged into Quickbooks first.

Thank you for your time and help.

Quickbooks Enterprise QBE 2021 Multi-User problems

After again wasting my time with another rep who did nothing but read me the article for H202, I was able to fix my problem.

By modifying the .ND file to point to my local directory, removing the extra user Quickbooks created on the server, setting the QB services to login as a local system account and then restarting the server and DB Server Manager program I was able to log in as a multi-user on the workstation.

I am going to reboot and test it again to be sure it sticks; but it is working for now.

Intuit - you need to re-write this "pretend" client-server interaction so it works properly AND teach your reps more than how to read from a file.  They don't even understand what they are reading especially when talking to someone with a much deeper technical background than them.

Good work for doing the basic steps to fix the H202 error, Q-Sucks. I have some other steps that we can perform.

First, let's check the folder permissions on your server computer. It's to ensure the folder holding the company files has permission to be on the network.

Next, let's make sure the QuickBooks Database Server Manager is installed on your server computer. The files will be shared with other computers over the network because of this server.

Then, let's set the Windows admin rights. It lets you change the firewall settings and folder permissions.

Lastly, scan your folder using the Database Server Manager. This way, you can access your file over the network.

Once done, check if you're able to log in without any issues.

You can always get back to this thread if you need more of our help. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Really Kristine?  I appreciate the response but did you even read my question?

All you did was reguritate the main article about H202, nothing more.

Try reading what I wrote before responding.  As I stated, all is well with the network which includes permissions.

Read, think and then respond.  Thanks.

Hi,

I see how beneficial and important to access the second machine without logging in to the main one. Since the network works well and there's nothing to fix with the permissions, I'd recommend contacting our support team to investigate what triggers the process of the multi-user. They'll look into your account in detail and see what's going on, and even screen share with you if necessary.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Go to the Help menu once you open QuickBooks.
  2. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Select Contact us button.
  4. Enter a short description of your concern in the Tell us more about your question box.

Let me know if you have other questions. Stay safe.

Thanks SarahannC, I appreciate the response.

Unfortunately, the people I have actually spoken to on the phone are as clueless as Kristine.  The last person I spoke to on the phone (after waiting 20 minutes on hold) literally read me the H202 article - did you try this, how about this...um....  she was no help.

I was hoping to find someone with actual knowledge about the problem.  Apparently that is not going to happen.

I, however; have come up with a theory that I will try over the weekend when the system is not needed.  I think because the Quickbooks program is installed on machine 1 (ie. the server) the program must be logged in to use multi-user.  IF, however; I uninstall Quickbooks from machine 1 and only have Database Manager on the machine 1 and then install Quickbooks (the program) on machine 3 then I might be able to log into multi-user on any machine without having to leave one open and logged in.

Quickbooks is a decent program but the programmers don't know what they are doing and did not build a real client-server program in my opinion.  Standalone works reasonably well, but in a shared environment it sucks.

If anyone with knowledge, real knowledge, has any insight about this issue, I would love to hear it.

Thanks.

Just my 2 cts,. keep the quickbooks Application on your server also. You will need to run verify (once a week) / rebuild and such. Don't try to run a verify / rebuild over the network, it would be very risky. Not sure how automatic backups would be handled with just the database server either

I run one server with RDS, many of the issues I had were all resolved by setting permissions on VARIOUS folders correctly. As we use web connector my qb is running on my server 24/7.

I was looking for 2020 to 2021 upgrade problems before I attempt my upgrade, hence I saw your post.

All the best
