Quickbooks pos being discontinued

Honestly I don’t know what to even do. Been using pos for 16 years and now for them to say in 6 months all services are ending and I have to switch pos. The mess this is going to cause and hours of time is going to be crazy. But what really makes me mad is they just made me upgrade to v19 and purchase an additional license last year for an extra register. Then made me pay thousands to use webgility and now they are closing it all down. Seemed like a money grab the past few years to force everyone to update and then close down .

I agree!  Been using
Desktop Pro for ages and tried switching to QB Online but after 1 week had to quit that because it is just too confusing!!

You may want to check what your options are moving forward.

I feel like the main two directions are this:

  1. Explore if there are reasons Shopify POS doesn't fit your business.
  2. Go with a 3rd party payments integration and keep using QuickBooks POS.

There is more information about both of these options here.

Quickbooks pos being discontinued

Hi there, @Kevprit000.

I understand that the discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 19.0 is affecting many users, and this change will be applicable on October 3, 2023. Know that we are dedicated to creating simple financial solutions that will help you now and grow with you in the future. But it's a balancing act, making QuickBooks better and easier to use, while still supporting older versions.

For detailed information about our service discontinuation policy, here's an article that you can read: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

For future reference, I'm adding this link to help review some of our commonly asked Point of Sale questions: QuickBooks Point of Sale (POS) FAQ.

Feel free to post again or comment below if you have further questions about your QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale subscription or anything else. I'm always here to help. Keep safe.

Quickbooks pos being discontinued

I’ve spent close to 3500k with quickbooks in the past couple years to have them just discontinue service in 6 months is a total fraud. I’ve had quickbooks for 16 years. I understand raising pricing or phasing things out but quickbooks pos is used by so many businesses this is just crazy. Why force everyone to update a couple years ago to just shut down. Wish someone let me me know last year when I spend weeks doing onboarding with webgility and invested in another pos license for another register.

Was thinking about that but they said they will no longer be updating or having live support. Also I won’t be able to use the gift card service anymore. And from what I know I don’t think any other payment processors directly integrate with pos except intuit so it takes much longer to ring people up.

Totally agree  What pos is a small business going to change to without costing thousands?  Lightspeed ? What company will be able to transfer over all my merchandise?

We tried Lightspeed but it didn't work for us and we ended up coming back to QB... and now I'm pissed that we did. We had to upgrade to the newer version at that time and have since upgraded again (to 19.0) not that long ago, including adding another license for adding inventory/pricing only. We even purchased new desktop computers just to run the POS's on.

In case it's helpful, LS didn't work for us because we sell primarily one-of-a-kind items (vintage) and this created a whole lot of unforseen issues.

We had selected LS after a looooong research period and thought it would be the best choice for us. Now I don't know WHAT we're going to do and to say that I'm F'ing PISSED is a vast understatement.

And now we're being shoved into a system that apparently doesn't even have the things we liked about QB's point of sale AND it's going to cost us $2k per year?!?! At least QB's upgrade costs were spread out over several years. How are small businesses supposed to afford this?!?

Oh, right. They don't care. What was I thinking?

How do I close the merchant services account for POS? And will we get a refund for the months not being able to use?

Sadly, you want to close your Merchant Services account for POS, @Old Timer. I'm here to help guide you through the steps for disabling your account successfully.

You'll want to log in to your Merchant Service account and close the subscription in your Account ProfileYou may follow the steps I've laid out below:

  1. Log in to the Merchant Service Center portal as an admin user.
  2.  Click the Account tab to display a drop-down menu, then choose Account Profile.
  3. Select Close Account.
  4. You'll see a Reason for Closing drop-down. In this area, enter the reason you're discontinuing the service.
  5. Hit Submit.

Once your request is processed, you'll receive a confirmation email from Intuit within one business day. After cancellation, you can still access the Merchant Service Center to view or download reports, statements, and tax forms for up to 12 months. For more information, see this article: Cancel your QuickBooks Payments subscription.

Also, concerning the refund, I'd suggest contacting our Payments Support Team. They can securely check your account and discuss how you can process the refund. To reach them, follow this article: Contact Payments or Point of Sale Support.

Additionally, let me share with you these resources that contain FAQs in case, you have any questions about POS before you cancel and how to resubscribe your account to process payments in QuickBooks:

Feel free to post again if you have further questions or anything else. I'm always here to help. Keep safe.

@Kevprit000,

I understand your frustration. I just found out about all this yesterday. I came across a small business using Quickbooks POS and they are looking for a new terminal to collect card payments in-store. I'm a Relationship Manager at a direct processor for all card payments. If you would like more information, please feel free to send me a email request at: [email address removed]

We used an unsupported version of 12.0 for several years before upgrading to v19.

during that time, we simply used the alternate interface method of transferring the data manually.

I still need to refresh myself on this method for the upcoming support drop, but it should work the same as it did in 2018 through 2021.

You can check this out for yourselves. It involves downloading into a file the data to be interfaced, then also uploading it manually.

No guarantees, as  stated -  have not reconfirmed this, and I could be mistaken about which modules interface.

At the time, we were transferring the remote location into the HQ location.  Perhaps this is different that the actual Financial Exchange function, but for anyone who might get an inspired idea based on this comment, then let it be so!

Our payment processor has confirmed that they will still be able to process thru the POS application. For us, nothing is changing in that regard.

However, my concern is if I will still be able to manually transfer data outside the "Financial Exchange" function, which is what I thought I did between the years 2018-2021.  We definitely continued to interface an unsupported version 12.0 for three years before upgrading to v.19.

We use Enterprise Desktop, so THAT is where my new concern is:  Will I still be able to get that POS data into Enterprise?  I'm not sure yet.
