2022 1099-NEC date error

This is the biggest bunch of bologna I have ever read.  As if all of the employees reviewing 1099's at the IRS will say, oh, the year 202222 works just fine for us.  What a bunch of bull.  They better get fixing this and fast.

I was on the phone again last night and was told to USE WHITEOUT!!!!!  I asked him to repeat that as I couldn't believe it!  I cannot imagine using whiteout on a Federal and State form and having it be accepted?  This is now 8 different people at Intuit all with different recommendations.  INTUITS FORMS DON'T COME WITH A STATE COPY so wasting my money on your forms didn't solve this issue.  Why can't we get a status as to if they are going to fix it or not?

I heard your sentiments, Chris1634 and Kpbt. Getting things right in their shape is our priority when addressing our customer's needs. I've come to share some details and help this clear out.

I'd agree with what @heather10899 has shared in this forum. There's nothing to worry about; everything is working as it should and the IRS will still process the forms correctly. Although the date may look like a 6-digit number, all red text is invisible to the IRS scanning machines that process these forms. It will only be printed in 2022.

I am appalled at Intuit for their lack of response and respect for all their PAYING customers.  Intuit is all about the money anymore and the rest of us be damned.  To create their own document that is different that the IRS official document and telling us we should be buying their form is to me criminal.

If I provided customer service like this I would be out of business very quickly.

INTUIT:  Why do you keep saying that the IRS will accept these screwed up date formats when clearly they have told many people including myself that they will only accept a 2 digit year!  Is Intuit going to pay for time and penalties when these are rejected?  Also, I did order your OVERPRICED forms and paid your OVERPRICED shipping and THEY DON'T HAVE A STATE COPY SO WHAT DO WE DO?  Also, the online version is having the same issue so QUIT TELLING US TO UPDATE OUR SYSTEM AND THAT THE IRS ACCEPTS THESE SCREWED UP DATES AND TELL US IF YOU PLAN ON FIXING THIS OR NOT?  TIME IS TICKING AND I'VE BEEN CALLING ON THIS SINCE 01-02-23 AND I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.  WE AT LEAST DESERVE AN ANSWER IF THIS IS GOING TO BE FIXED OR NOT ASAP!!!

Agreed, shame on you Intuit.  Your products cost an absolute fortune now and this is the type of disgraceful service we get.  Most of us have already purchased our forms to get ahead of the year and then we are hit with this.  I for one will be sending Intuit any penalty letters or bills I receive from the IRS due to this error.  I have wasted hours on this and other issues this year and we are only in January, can I bill back that time to Intuit.  Very disappointed here, good opportunity for another company to come up with a software that actually works for the customer, instead of just hiking prices and ignoring customer concerns.

I just received my package of "200 Forms" from the Intuit thieves today.

The 200 forms consists of the following:

4 (1096) Forms

67 Sheets of Copy A (Red Copy for IRS)

67 Sheets of Copy B (Recipient's Copy)

67 Sheets of Copy C (Payer Copy)

200 Envelopes

Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a Copy 2 like most kits you buy elsewhere.  They do have you select the state when you purchase and I selected NH.  I still liked to have the Copy 2 to send to the subcontractors.  Not all of them live in NH - some live in Mass and may need the state copy.  I would guess that if you need the state copy, you should select a state that has state income tax?

and to hell with the subcontractors that receive this muddled mess as their form?  Nice.

I received my order of 200 1099-NEC Forms from the thieves yesterday.  It DOES have the red Copy A for the IRS.  Here is what the kit of 200 includes:

1096 - 4 Sheets

Copy A - 67 Sheets (Red copy for IRS)

Copy B - 67 Sheets (Recipient Copy)

Copy C - 67 Sheets (Payer Copy)

Envelopes - 200

Although I had ordered forms that match the IRS website, I ended up ordering Intuit forms on 01-02-23 after discovering this "BUG" and it is a BUG because your forms do NOT match the forms that are on the IRS website and they didn't come with a State Copy.  I applied for a refund for my forms and like these forums...I am still not getting any answers.

FOR EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THIS ISSUE, I BOUGHT ADAMS TAX FORMS HELPER YESTERDAY AND IT WORKS GREAT!  IT'S NOT CONVENIENT TO HAVE TO KEY IN INFORMATION MANUALLY BUT IT WORKS AND WILL PRINT ON THE IRS FORMS AND WILL PRINT A STATE COPY.  IT'S VERY AFFORDABLE AND WORTH BEING ABLE TO MOVE ON SINCE INTUIT IS CLEARLY IGNORING US UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE.  I still don't understand why they couldn't make a toggle on this field to allow the user to select a 2 digit year FOR THE IRS FORMS or a 4 digit year for the INTUIT FORMS THAT DON'T HAVE A STATE COPY!  Something that Intuit could have done that would have helped so many however with the lack of response other than the normal rehearsed responses that I was told and have seen: "The IRS will accept it" WHICH THEY TOLD ME THEY ONLY ACCEPT A 2 DIGIT YEAR, or "update your system" which doesn't solve this or "fill it out manually if you don't like it" and I was even told to "USE WHITEOUT."  This is just sad and has caused unnecessary issues for so many.  What say you Intuit?

2022 1099-NEC date error

there is now a warning in QB Desktop that it will print 4 digits, and that the IRS will accept it. Not sure I want to risk it. But if anyone reading is taking the risk, please print this forum out, and screenshot that warning. I'd love to check back later to see if there were problems.
I'm going to waste an hour or two creating a template in MS Publisher so i can manually enter the five 1099NEC that I need to print. I wonder if the 1096 will print correctly...

I just followed the steps above and got an "update completed" message for my Quickbooks Desktop 2022 Pro Plus and it continues to print "2022" and not "22" as is required by the Form for this year.

This problem occurs both with 1099-NEC and 1099 MISC.

Please fix it soon!  The forms have to go out.

That would be great if the 2022 printed next to the "20" on my 1099 form!  It doesn't, it prints over the "20" and I have no room to move the data otherwise other text will be writing over other form printed data.

Gosh this is a nightmare!

It's nice to see you here in the Community, @jsherwin5024.

I'd be glad to help you print Form 1099 for the year 2023 in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To start, ensure you have updated your QBDT file to the latest version and payroll tax table for you to print your 1099.

Here's how:

  1. Update your QuickBooks Desktop file to the latest release. Be sure to select the Reset Update checkbox.
  2. Go to Vendors, then select 1099 Forms, then Print/E-file 1099 Forms. Create your 1099s.
  3. In the Choose a filing method window, select Print 1099-NEC or Print 1099-MISC.
  4. Specify the date range for the forms, then choose OK.
  5. Select all vendors you wish to print 1099s for.
  6. Select Print 1099. Select Print 1096s instead, if printing Form 1096.
  7. Double-check your printer settings, then select Print

However, if the issue still persists after updating to the latest release. I suggest contacting customer support.

To help you adjust your print alignment of continuous-feed printers with QuickBooks Desktop, you can check this article: Fix print alignment of continuous-feed printers.

Please feel free to leave a comment below if you have any further questions regarding printing form 1099 or other QBDT-related concerns. I am here to assist you.
