The call was to be returned to ( removed ) x623.  I called them back. They are 100% scammers pretending to be with Quickbooks/Intuit.  Do not give this fake company any information.  Avoid them at all costs.

Same. Just got the same call. When I told her we paid for our yearly membership for Enterprise version and it included support she just repeated it was for "service". I asked her where she was calling from and she kept saying "Quickbooks". All my billing shows Intuit. Total scam.

Scammer called claiming to be quickbooks "renewal" from 877-792-1121
They seem to have some of data regarding our company account with QB that makes them very convincing.
QB needs to do more to stop these people.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I had a call from someone saying they were from Quickbooks and that they were trying to renew our subscription and the credit card on file was rejected and he wanted a new credit card.  He knew that we had 8 users and a lot of information including the 4 digits of the credit card that was on file which had been changed so it sounded legit.  I told him that I would update the credit card in our account and would not give it to him.  He then said I needed to call him back once done because it had to be renewed by this Friday August 9th.  I was on the road and had to wait to later in the day to go to QB and enter the new credit card.  When I went in to QB the credit card that was on file was the correct credit card.  I called QB and reported what had happened.  She looked at our account and said for some reason even though it was correct on our side it had not transferred to their side.  She fixed it but never asked for the credit card info and sent confirming emails.  My concern is if this was not a legit call for QB how could anyone have this much information about our account.  It seems like either QB has been compromised or someone with QB may be helping with information.  I would like a firm answer how this could happen.

@Water Tanks   If you search the community, you will find a LOT of people have had that happen.  There are a couple threads that point out that it is shady employees with QB that are stealing information, then handing it off to their "people" to scam us all out of as much money as possible.

Just know that QB will NEVER contact you for a credit card, under any circumstances. If the card on file doesn't work for any reason, they will just lock your account. You won't have access to it.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

Just got one of these fraud calls as well. I knew all of our subscriptions were current as were the cards on file so no way I'm giving "Martha" a credit card number on the phone. My question is how do they know such detail of the accounts? Feels like our customer data is not very well protected which is scary.

You've contacted Intuit Support (chat or callback) in the last 12 months, correct?

If such information is in fact secure, whether or not there has been contact with Intuit support should have no bearing on fraudsters obtaining such detail information about the account  Sorry but I fail to see the relevance of your question.

When you contact Support, you will need to provide some information in CAMPS for their verification. We are aware of this pattern with our clients. After a few weeks, someone called them pretending to be from Intuit. Since they purchased or renewed the license through a partner, they will immediately flag the call as a fraud attempt.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I just received this call.  I wouldn't provide any info about our QB account.  "Alan" said he would email me details and I could call him back.  I told him to send to the email on file.  He said OK and hung up.  I called the number back and "Alan" answered "Thank you for calling Support for Quickbooks".  I came on here just to confirm this was a scam.

Did you request a callback beforehand? Can you share a screenshot of the email you received from this Alan? Click the camera icon on the menu to insert image here.

No, I did not request a call back.  Because I was challenging him, I think he was just tying to end the call without being suspicious.  I called back the number I saw on caller ID just to see what would happen.  I have not received any email from "Alan" or Quickbooks so this just proves he had none of my company's info.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

We appreciate you joining this thread to inform us regarding your experience, AutoMail. I'm here to ensure this will never happen again.

Please know that our QuickBooks Representative won't call you if you haven't initiated a callback. Also, during outbound calls, they wouldn't ask for your account information for security reasons. They will only verify if you're the account's principal contact or administrator. Hence, it's correct that you didn't provide any of these details for protection.

Additionally, I suggest visiting our Online Security Center website to report the issue if you continue to receive repeated or similar fraudulent calls. Once there, click on Contact US and choose which you would like to report based on your experience.

On the other hand, you can review our online security tips to help you keep your information safe. To determine and recognize official Intuit correspondence and websites so you can confirm its legitimacy, scan this article for guidance: Identify suspicious activity, phishing scams, and potential fraud.

If you have other questions or need additional help dealing with fraudulent activities, kindly notify us by replying to this thread. We're here to lend a hand.

This same thing happened to me. If I don't have my financial information on my computer, it would be protected, right? Or is there a way that while they have access to my computer, they can download something that essentially 'watches' my online activity?

Thank you, Smack71, for joining this thread and informing us that you're also experiencing this issue.

We understand that receiving unexpected calls can be alarming, especially regarding potential fraud. Rest assured, we are here to help you navigate this situation confidently and securely. Let's begin by addressing your concerns and guaranteeing the security of your financial information.

Even if your computer doesn't store financial information, downloading suspicious programs from fraudsters can still be risky. If they gain access to your computer, they could install malware or spyware to monitor your online activity.

Here are some steps to protect yourself:

  1. Disconnect from the Internet: If you suspect someone has accessed your computer, disconnect the Internet immediately to prevent further access.
  2. Run a Security Scan: Use reputable antivirus software to scan your computer for malware or spyware.
  3. Change Passwords: Update your passwords, especially for sensitive accounts like email and banking.
  4. Monitor Accounts: Monitor your financial accounts for any unusual activity.

I've got an article to help you learn how to handle suspicious calls or emails from parties claiming to be associated with Intuit: Reporting fraudulent calls or emails

For more information about the best protection against security risks with your QuickBooks account, refer to this article: Identify suspicious activity, phishing scams, and potential fraud

We are committed to your security and peace of mind. Remember, if you ever receive suspicious calls or notice unusual activity, don’t hesitate to contact our QuickBooks support directly to verify the call's legitimacy. Your safety is our priority, and we’re always here to support you. Have a great day, and stay safe!

@jackpot   It's a scam.  QB will never call you, unless you request it.   They just lock you out of your account, instead.
