I received a backup copy of my client's QB file. When I attempt to open the resultant QBW file in QB2019 I get this error message: It looks like something went wrong. We can't updated your company file because we lost connection to it.
I went through the recommended solutions. Still no joy.
The file was on an external hard drive on my clients workstation. It was never a network installation. My computer is, likewise, a local installation of QB and the file.
My client cannot open the file on her computer either. She has two companies sharing the same QB version.
Is it possible that she disconnected her external drive incorrectly and that may have corrupted the file. I have shared files with her in past years with no problems.
Thank you for your help.
Hi, BigBillFL.
Looks like you're right on track for the cause of the problem. Sometimes disconnecting a drive before the file is fully saved unto the external drive can cause the file to become corrupted. Your client saves her file onto the drive, I recommend copying over the file onto your computer. You can always view our article on moving QuickBooks Company files here. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
Thank you for your reply.
The problem isn't moving the file, it is opening the file. My client cannot open the file on her computer and I cannot open the file on my computer.
I tried repairing the file using file doctor. That did not work. I tried renaming the file. That did not work.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you.
