Changed a name to an account on the Chart of Accounts that I shouldn't have- Can't remember previous name Yikes

I was wondering if anyone can help me out, please.  I updated a name to an account on the chart of accounts I didn't realize had some previous transactions attached to it.  I don't remember what the original name of the account was.  Is there any way to find this out?

I'm here to assist you in determining the original name of your updated chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Confused52.

In QBO, the Audit log keeps track of all activities related to your books. By reviewing the Audit log, you can easily identify who made changes to your books and what they did.

To find the chart of account in question, I suggest checking your Audit log. This will help you determine the original name of the account you updated. Allow me to guide you through the process:

  1. Clear the Gear icon, then choose Audit log under Tools.
  2. Filter the User to your name, then select the Date changed and Event.
  3. Locate the event that says Edited account.
  4. Click on the View link in the History column.

Still unable to find the first time the file name was changed. Is there anyway you can search it?

Thanks for the prompt response and for your patience in following the steps provided by my colleague, @Confused52

I wish you didn't have to go through this hurdle with your chart of accounts. No worries. I have additional information to share to solve this.

We can further narrow down the search by using List in the Events dropdown since the chart of accounts is included in this category.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Audit log.
  3. In the Events dropdown, select List.
  4. You can also utilize the User and Date dropdown to further specify the search.

Additionally, ensure that you reconcile your accounts to keep them accurate and up to date.

Let me know if you need further assistance with locating your edited data in QuickBooks Online. I'll be here to provide you with the help you need.

Still not able to find where the account name was originally changed.  Do you happen to have a copy of default chart of accounts for nonprofit that QuickBooks online creates?
