I have a new client, the previous accountant was runing Quickbooks Enterprise. I am running only Desktop Pro 2020. Is there a way for them to send me the file so that I can use it?
Solved! Go to Solution.
If your client is using Enterprise edition, you have to use Enterprise or Enterprise Accountant edition. Utilize the trial license of Enteprise edition for the time being. Otherwise, you have to purchase a 3rd party downgrade service to convert it.

Thank you for this information. I was unaware of the 3rd party option. I was hoping there was a way for the Enterprise user to export in a format usable to a lower grade QB user.
Hi there, JBinSC.
Downgrading company file is unavailable with QuickBooks. Although we can open Desktop Pro to Enterprise edition, but not the other way around.
Also, I agree with Fiat Lux - ASIA's suggestion to take advantage of the trial edition and search for a third party application in the market place.
Here's where you can check for a supported app that can successfully integrate with QuickBooks Desktop: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're an accountant taking over a file for a new client, and that file is from an Enterprise version and you don't have Enterprise, you can have the file converted to Pro/Premier using our service. See BRC Enterprise to Pro/Premier Conversion Service
BigRed - I see on your site that you only work with US versions of Quickbooks. My version is for Canada. Any solutions for me?
You may have 2 options:
1. Utilize one of these 3rd party migration tool

2. Purchase a 3rd party downgrade service. We have replied your message.
Hello
Have there been any updates to this? We would like to migrate our company file from from Enterprise to Pro.
Thank you
Consider 2 options as I mentioned earlier.
Nevermind - I found what I was asking
where to find the trial license for the Enterprise edition?
This is just the right place for finding the trial license for the QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise edition, @CRL111.
You don't need any codes to open the trial. However, before installing the QuickBooks trial version, ensure that the system meets the proper configurations to run the QuickBooks Desktop smoothly. Once done, you can now start installing the latest trial version of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise version. It's just a few steps to install the product.
Here's how:
Check out this article for your reference: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

The previous bookkeeper ran QB Enterprise solutions. I'm new and got set up on Desktop Pro Plus 2021. Our tax preparer sent me the accountants file. Where do I start with getting the trial balances all set up in Pro? I cannot even reconcile a bank account because there are transactions in both files - help someone.
Thanks for following this thread, Michelle146.
I can help answer any questions you may have about QuickBooks. To ensure I can provide the best solution, I need more details about your concern.
May I know if you’re able to restore the accountant’s copy? Also, what happened to the bank you wish to reconcile and the trial balance report? Any details shared will guide me on the troubleshooting we’ll have to perform to fix the issue.
Thank you in advance. I’m looking forward to working with you again. Have a good one.
Yes, I was able to restore the accountants copy in Enterprise. There are some transactions (checks, bills, invoices) for most of January in Enterprise. Nothing happened to the bank. I did reconcile the month of January in Enterprise then entered my beginning balance in Desktop Pro afterwards. I just don't know where to start and have no accounting degree so I hope you have some patience ;)
Thanks for getting back to us and for sharing additional information, Michelle.
No worries, I got you covered. Since you’ve successfully reconciled the month of January, you'll just have to ensure your trial balance matches the data in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
You’ll want to run your trial balance report to check and verify if all data imported is accurate. Let me show you how.
You can also check this link for guidance on how you can generate a report that shows the data you need: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
Once everything is all set, you can now seamlessly reconcile your accounts whenever you’re ready.
Additionally, to learn your ways around QBDT, you can always visit our QuickBooks Support page for reference. We have articles there that you can read for reference.
You can always get back to me in this thread if you have other follow-up questions or concerns about reconciling your accounts. I’ll be around ready to help you. Stay safe!
it doesn't give me the option to "run" I typed in "trial balance" in the search window....
Hey there, @Michelle146.
Thanks for following up with us. I'm happy to lend a hand with your trial balance report.
You'll want to hit the enter key on your keyboard once you've typed in trial balance in the search window. Then click on Run from the report option. I've included some screenshots below to walk you through the steps. Don't sweat, this is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
That's all there is to it. Now you can see your trial balance report.
Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. I'll be here every step of the way. As always, feel free to reach out to the Community at any time. Take care!
Got it - anything specific I should be looking for? I think I'm in over my head and what I need to do. Assuming I need to take the trial balance of Enterprise through December 2020 and make some sort of journal entries?
A client has a QB ProPlus 2021 file. And I want to open it on QB Enterprise Accountant to use the "batch accounting entries". Does this work when I use the file and enter batch transactions in QB Enterprise then I can open it on QB version ProPlus 2021?
