There are two methods for processing payroll in QuickBooks Online, @Ybh. I'll be glad to discuss the different lead times available for each submission method.

Firstly, when processing payroll with paper checks, they will be generated on the same day. In contrast, if you're using direct deposit, please know that there will be a specific lead times you have to follow.

With direct deposit, you can submit payroll on the same day or the next day. However, some accounts may need a lead time of up to 5 days. To ensure your processing your payroll on time, it's important to check funding timeline.

To do so, here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then Payroll settings.
  3. Find the Direct deposit section. Above the direct deposit limits, you'll see your funding time.

Here's a screenshot for reference:

At the same time, you can check out this quick overview of the direct deposit processing times:

Same-Day (0): Employees get paid on the same day payroll is submitted.

Next-Day (1): Employees receive payment the next banking day after payroll submission.

2-Day: Payment is made two banking days post payroll submission.

5-Day: Employees receive their payment five banking days after payroll is submitted.

For more information, refer to this article: When to send your direct deposit payroll.

Also, be aware that federal holidays might impact your payroll submissions. For more information on this topic, please see: How do federal holidays affect my direct deposit?
