Database server manager update

Database Server Manager updates automatically whenever you update QuickBooks, davis-LAI5925.

You can either automatically or manually get its latest version. Here’s how to automatically get updates:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Options tab to select the Yes option for Automatic Update.
  3. Then, click Save.
  4. Select the Overview tab to check if the Automatic Update is ON.
  5. Then, click Update Now.

Every time you open QuickBooks and there are recent updates, it’ll ask you to Update Now or Update Later.

To manually update:

  1. Still in the Update QuickBooks Desktop window, click the Update Now tab.
  2. Then, select Get Updates.
  3. After updates are completed, click Close.

Let me know if you need more help. Have a great day!

Database server manager update

Thanks for the reply, but we don’t have QBooks itself installed on the database server. Desktop Client is not on the server.

Database server manager update

Thanks for getting back to us and sharing additional information regarding your concern, @davis-LAI5925.

You need to download the latest patch on the server computer with QuickBooks Desktop to update the Database Server Manager. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release, since the patch for the server is the same as the workstation.
  2. Reboot the server once the installation completes. You may get the following message on the workstation: The company file needs to be updated to work with this version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Create a backup once the window shows up.
  4. Follow the prompts and after the backup is completed, you should be able to open the file.

I recommend rebooting the windows server for the changes to apply. Check out this article for more information: Install QuickBooks Database Server Manager.

Let me know if you need further assistance. I’m always here to help. Have a pleasant day!

Database server manager update

thanks for all your help...but maybe I am not communicating this correctly. The database and server manager are installed on a MS Server 2012 R2 machine. This server does not have the QB 2016 client installed. Just the database server & hosted database. I have updated all the desktop client machines to the latest available version of QB Desktop. Now I want to make sure the database server manager software is also up to date. When I attempt to update this software (database server manager) there is no update available (page not found) for my version of QB 2016. All I want to do at this point is to update the server software to the latest version.

Database server manager update

Hi Scott D,

You can get the latest updates of your Database Server Manager (DBSM) from the website.

  1. In the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Select these options:
    •    Country: United States (US)
    •    Product: QuickBooks Desktop Premier
    •    Version: 2016
  3. Then, click Search
  4. Select the Get the latest updates link.
  5. In the prompt, click Save File

After the download completes, run the patch in your server.

We can go back to your QuickBooks Database Server Manager to verify if you're already running the latest release (R17).

Let me know if you need anything else.
