How can I select which business to export Quickbooks online data from so I can do my taxes with Turbotax?

The instructions for exporting Quickbooks data are resulting in an empty export file for me. The problem is that I have more than one Quickbooks business that I access with my account and the export instructions always export the null file from my main account and I can't find a way to pick which Quickbook business to download from.

Here are the download instructions I am using: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/export-conve...

I am trying to download so I can do my taxes in TurboTax. I have two small businesses and I need to import the data to TurboTax. The only way to get my data to TurboTax is to download the data from Quickbooks online, import it to Quickbooks desktop and then transfer it to TurboTax desktop. I really wish I could use TurboTax online, but there is no way to transfer Quickbooks data to TurboTax online so I just have to be satisfied with TurboTax desktop.

Anyway, I need to figure out how to download my Quickbooks data before I can do my taxes. Any suggestions?

I appreciate the detailed information, surkan.

I'm here to make sure you can export your data without issues.

You may ensure that your browser is updated. This way, you can export data seamlessly. Note that Internet Explorer and older versions of Safari are no longer supported in QuickBooks.

Regarding which QuickBooks business to download from, you can switch between companies and open manually the account to export the data. Here's how:

  1. Select Settings ⚙️.
  2. Under Profile, select Switch Company.
  3. From the list, select the company you want to switch to.

In addition, here are a couple of articles you can read to learn more about the import/export in QuickBooks:

How can I select which business to export Quickbooks online data from so I can do my taxes with Turbotax?

@GlinetteC I appreciate the suggestion, but it doesn't seem to work. I can switch profiles to a different company under settings, but when I enter the qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt URL it seems to go back to the phantom default company and I still get a download of 0 bytes.

I think the export system is getting confused by the central managing account I am using that shows "YOUR PRACTICE", Clients, Team, etc.

Thank you for responding so quickly, surkan.

Let me help and make sure you select the correct the company to be exported in QuickBooks Online.

First, we need to see if you're using a supported browser. These are the following browsers are supported on both web and mobile devices:

  • Google Chrome: version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox: version 76 or newer Note: To preview and print forms on Mac OS, you'll also need the Firefox PDF plugin.
  • Microsoft Edge: version 75 or newer
  • Safari: version 12 or newer (Mac only)
  • Opera: version 68 or newer
  • Samsung: version 10 or newer

If you're already using a browser that works best with QuickBooks Online products, we can try the other way around. To do this, sign out all Intuit accounts then access the link: qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. This will lead you to the log in page.

Once you've successfully logged in, select the company. Then, that should get you back on track. I've added this link for you to check the detailed steps in exporting and converting your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, you can perform troubleshooting steps to ensure there are no underlying browser issues: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

Let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button below. I'll keep an eye for your response. Have a great day!
