How do I send my business data into Turbo Tax

Hello there, @Mike in Bend. I'll share some information on how you can import your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to TurboTax.

The ability to import directly to Turbo Tax is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. You'll need to first export QBO data to QuickBooks Desktop before importing it into Turbo Tax.

If you don't have your own QuickBooks Desktop account yet, you can download the free trial of QBDT.

Once you're finished downloading the product, you'll need to export the data to QBDT. From there, you can start moving your QBDT tax information to TurboTax.

For more detailed steps on how to import QuickBooks data to TurboTax, you can refer to this article: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?.

Feel free to get back if you have a hard time with the export process. I'll be here to assist you. Stay safe!

You can either wait until prompted by TurboTax to import your brokerage statements (e.g., Form 1099-B or Form 1099-DIV), or you can go directly to the import feature by searching for “import” in the search box (top right in the TurboTax interface), then selecting the option to Jump to Import.

So you are telling me that:

1.  I can't even buy the desktop version of qb anymore

2.  The online version of qb is not compatible with turbo tax business

3.  You want me to sign up for a trial and then use turbo tax?

All of it sounds utterly ridiculous!  Surely you have figured out how to connect turbo tax business with qb online.

Yeh, this has sent me searching for an alternative to this scam. It is ridiculous that we have to waste our time, after using QBO for a year, looking for a way to import our business data into TurboTax. I guess the number of QuickBooks and TurboTax products really says it all about Intuit.... they're just looking to sell you another product and another product and another product. They don't really care about creating a great product.

Spent hours with tech support and they finally admited there is no way to import online Quickbooks into Turbo tax. So they push you into using online after years of using desktop but now offer no way to import to Turbo tax even though they own both companies??? Pathetic.

Absolutely garbage. It is unacceptable that this ins't a thing. This is my last year using Turbo Tax and I will be looking for something other than Quickbooks for book keeping.

Agree - this is ridiculous. I have Quickbooks Desktop 2020 which I didn't use since I switched to QB Online. Now trying to follow the steps below, which failed each time I need to use migration tool to import into desktop version.  It is not even clear whether I should upgrade Desktop 2020 to newer version or not.

This is ridiculous that QBO is NOT compatible with TurboTax. Simply asking a question, why do you think small business owners employ QBO? For fun? NO! For the mileage tracking, QBO invoice capturing etc------all these functions that you advertise to help small business owner to track expenses for tax deduction purposes! And now we need to download QB Desktop to import the data to generate a tax file. And I did look into that. Guess what? It requires data mapping! And it will take days. Fhank you Quickbooks!

How is this still the answer, literal decades after Quickbooks Online was launched? Intuit is such a terrible organization. Cares nothing for its customers at all. Spends a cool billion on dividends instead.

I'm going to be looking for other tax software in FY2023. If I can't easily get data from QBO to TurboTax, there's no point using TurboTax.

How do I send my business data into Turbo Tax

I have been doing this song and dance for the past several years and I am HOPING things have changed. Do we still need to download and install the trial desktop software for Quickbooks, go online and download our online QBO data to a desktop, then try to import the datafile (if it downloads correctly) into the trial desktop version of quickbooks and then try to link that to turbo tax? Can this still be the current method?!? (Crossing my fingers VERY hard that something has changed for the better!

Hello there, @theblackbow.

I understand how sending your data to Turbotax can be time-consuming. However, the process remains the same.

You can proceed with downloading our free trial version so you can convert the data from QBO. For the complete guide, refer to this article: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, follow these steps to transfer them to TurboTax:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax and go to the File menu.
  2. Select Import.
  3. Click the From Accounting Software.
  4. Select QuickBooks (2021) and click Continue.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Being able to transfer information from QuickBooks Online to Turbotax directly is convenient. Since this feature is unavailable, I encourage you to send a request to our product developers. Rest assured that they will review and consider it for future updates depending on the number of users' requests.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, select Feedback.
  3. Share your suggestion, then click Next.

Visit this website to track your suggestions. Our blog will also update you with recent events and developments.

Save this reference for more details: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?

Additionally, feel free to run your reports for both software to ensure the accuracy of all the data and numbers.

Please let me know if you still have concerns with the migration process. I'll be around for you. Take care.

Yes and we learn that QB Desktop 2021 is the most reliable version for converting data from QBO currently.

Cannot import my company data from QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 to TurboTax Business 2023. I have installed all updates to both QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and TurboTax Business 2023 and re-started my computer.

Thanks for coming here, @Kennyboss.

TurboTax Business is out of QuickBooks Community scope. However, let me share some insights about the error you encountered while importing data to TurboTax.

Most of the time, the error message in TurboTax, "QuickBooks Desktop not installed" and "No QuickBooks Desktop file has been found", arises if you're in a network or cloud data file.

To avoid this, let's ensure to look into these things:

  • The QuickBooks software (downloadable or CD) is installed on your computer, along with TurboTax.
  • QuickBooks data files should be saved to your local drive, not on the network or cloud.

On top of this, we recommend contacting TurboTax Community support for additional guidance and help you sort these things up. You can click this link to reach them: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/home/misc/03/en-us

Whenever you're ready to file or submit your return in TurboTax, you can browse some topics from this page: File taxes.

For additional migration and tax concerns, never hesitate to come back here. I'll be here always. Have a good one.

Thank you for that. No cloud or network involved. All on the hard disc of my office PC. The company file is there where it is supposed to be but with no .qbw at the end. I tried changing the name to add the .qbw but then Quickbooks could not find the file to open it, so I had to change it back

The biggest issue is that Intuit forced us to use online quickbooks, we can't even buy desktop version anymore.  So now, we can't use quickbooks online with turbo tax (another intuit product).  You have broken the system, by forcing us to make changes (so intuit can make more money) we didn't want to make in the first place.  If intuit really wanted to be helpful they would make quickbooks online compatible with turbo tax.

we can't even buy desktop version anymore.

You can still buy QB Desktop 2024 by calling Intuit Sales team or through selected partners (tax exempt, no credit card required, can get $100 cashback). But if you only need to export data to TurboTax, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop for good.

Upgrade your company file to QB Desktop 2023 and export it to TurboTax 2023. You can use the trial version.

OK, what happens if you install the Trial version and 30 days goes by? I did that, it worked, but I needed to make some additional changes on the online version and re-export. Unfortunately at that point I was told that trial version had expired. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it still says it's expired and will not open! Also, what about next year? How is it possible that a QBO to TurboTax connector doesn't exist!? It's completely insane.

I any case, is there some registry setting I can access to reset the trial expiration date?

I have some information to provide. This will guide you on what you'll have to do, Urban.

After 30 days, your QuickBooks free trial automatically ends and will make the account inactive. If you want to continue using QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll be asked to present a valid credit card for authorization. You'll want to subscribe for one so that you can send your data to Turbo Tax anytime and ensure that you're still able to access any information previously entered.

Additionally, you can go through this article to know more about how long you can access your data once your account is canceled or expired: What happens to my QuickBooks Online data after I cancel?

Furthermore, learn how you can manage your QuickBooks Online subscription. I've added this article for more details: Manage Billing, Payment, and Subscription Infor in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other concerns or further questions about subscriptions, you can always find me here. Have a great weekend ahead.

@Urban011

You were using the trial version of QB Desktop 2024, correct?

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2022 or 2023 to convert your data again from QB Online and export it to TurboTax. But if you prefer to use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 after 30 days, you should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA to ask the workaround.
