How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

This is not about how often the message to sign into my account shows up. It says it will lock me out if I don't sign in to my account, but when I try to sign into my account it says I have to update. After I update the program and it says I have updated it, it still will not let me sign in to my account. I can sign in through a browser but not through the program. It doesn't recognize that I sign into my account through a browser. I have 15 days before I get locked out. I don't want to spend $400 for a one year subscription. I am a small company with just me but I need access to my files and invoices. I don't use any of your online services, I paid for the program, why are you stealing it back from me. No one said you would prevent me from using it in the future when I bought it. As long as it is compatible with my computer I should be able to use it.

I'll point you to the right direction and ensure you'll be able to fix the login screen issue when opening QuickBooks. 

 

I see that you've posted the same issue before and have followed the suggestions provided by my colleagues and other users. 

 

Since you've exhausted every possible steps to resolve the login screen issue, I'd recommend giving our support another chance to help you out.

 

On your last reply, since you've mentioned that they want you to upgrade, I'd suggest asking them if there's a way to have them fix the issue without upgrading. 

 

We can use the same phone number you've called before to reach them. 

 

If you can't access the Help menu anymore, let's use these steps to contact our support again: 

 

  1. Go to the Contact Us webpage, then choose QuickBooks Desktop as your product. 
  2. Click Continue
  3. Select your edition on the next page. In the text box, enter the details of your issue such as "login screen problems."
  4. Proceed with Continue
  5. Choose how you want to reach us (phone or chat).

If you are talking about that annoying pop up that insists that you "sign in" to quickbooks online before you can use your company files offline, I can help.  I dont use quickbooks online either, but I discovered that if I right-click on the banner at the top of the pop-up (usually a light gray) that I get the option to "close"  Hopefully this will work for you;)

"You may want to read Intuit's legal page as that page clearly states the purpose is to track us.

Logging in to Intuit has nothing to do with our data being secure.  Our data is not stored on Intuit's server."

They are talking about something totally different than we all are. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LOGGING INTO TO YOUR WEBSITE, NOT PASSWORD PROTECTION OF YOU PROGRAM. These techs are so out of touch I'm getting a headache reading their responses.

So I have been logging in to my QB's with my computer internet shut off with no problems. After reading some of the responses I decided to give it one more try to see if any of them worked. Much to my surprise it's suddenly working like normal with no big box blocking me from logging in! My daily countdown to being totally shut out is gone. All I did was work a few days off line and magically it's fixed. It's got to be something on their end that maybe they are finally figuring out? I will update if I get locked out again. Yes, the support on here and in the calls is not helpful at all.

I wish I could post a loud buzzzz followed by WRONG ANSWER.

 

I have used Quickbooks desktop for many years... actually decades.
At one time I had 6 companies, and a few partnerships and a couple of trusts all running from a server at our office. At one time my primary business had payroll through ADP but I ALWAYS entered information by hand in QB and we had NO banking integration or online ANYTHING connected to the server or system running Quickbooks.

When I had to upgrade due to Windows 10 I was doing some bookeeping for an external company that had payroll running on Intuit.  That was not a problem - that company gave be an email address [email address removed] and I used that to do payroll for XYZ company with no issues - XYZ was using Intuit payroll through their accountant.

THEN I UPGRADED to this Quickbooks Desktop...
when I migrated my primary company - lets call it ABC company - I used my email [email address removed] to register the software and to log into my migrated company.  That worked ok but I was dismayed to be forced to go to INTUIT to verify that.

The next day I went to do payroll for XYZ Company and my password was rejected for [email address removed]

To make this nightmare a little shorter....
I had to start using my ABC account on XYZ! WHY?????

Oddly enough XYZ company got fed up with INTUIT as this started happening with ALL of their customers who paid for payroll through them and they have since STOPPED using Intuit Payroll.

As I migrated my 3 companies  (micro businesses with no employees) I started having issues with login requests. I DO NOT WANT a unique INTUIT account for each... I do not want to put ANY Business information on INTUIT - I bought the desktop version for this reason. I ONLY want to TRACK offline and generate reports for my accountant, print checks and STAY SAFE.  I have NDAs with my clients as a consultant. I do not ever put anything about my relationship with my clients anywhere online. I do not ever and will not ever integrate any online services with QUICKBOOKS or any financial institution.
I did finally manage to delete a couple of dead users - literally 2 had died and one had left the company - years ago.

THE ONLY solution I have heard in the real world is to grab a copy of an older version of Quickbooks desktop, set up a VPN running a stable old version of windows, secure the VPN to not have ANY internet access, and rebuild your company from the start of the fiscal year.  Check with your accountant of what to put for starting balances that may impact ongoing reporting for tax purposes.
NOTE - I do not like the idea of running out of date software or operating systems but that seems safer in some ways than giving information and access to a business that does not listen to their customers or understand their needs.


We live in troubling times when it comes to privacy and security
and INTUIT really truly is not listening.

Funny thing - when the email came through today telling me there was an update to this topic my email client put a big red security warning on it. 
Way to go INTUIT - don't even test the security viability of your communications.
I mean why bother? Am I right?

Sorry, but you are wrong. They are neither. They are simply trying to force all current users of QB that are not subscription based cloud versions to go to subscription based cloud versions. Just follow the money. Note that if you buy a desktop version of QB you can use it for years at no additional cost beyond what you originally paid. Good for you. Bad for Intuit. Hence, force users in to subsctiption services with monthly or annual fees and keep their data in the cloud, i.e. on Intuit's servers where it can be held hostage. 

 

No folks, Intuit is not stupid at all. Do they care about their customers? Yes, but they want to hold them by the balls.

There are hundreds of replies on this, but I have found a very easy fix.. for me at least, this works flawless... What I did is this:

 

1) Install Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020 from Disc, which comes default with Release 1. 

2) Set quickbooks automatic update preferences to: OFF

3) Manually install Qbwebpatch.exe release 5 (which I have the update file for, if anyone needs), which updates Quickbooks to release 5. (Note: Using the "update quickbooks" function will update quickbooks to version 15+ or whatever is most recent).

4) Manually create new company file and all new accounts, customers, invoices, etc...  manually. (You cannot convert a newer company file to an older version, so this must be done manually).

 

A smart person, actually reads the release notes. Release 6 says: "Admin is now required to sign in to their Intuit account when:
Creating a new company file
Opening an existing file"

 

So, because of this, simply installing release 5, the version prior to version 6, which does NOT require an admin account to sign into Intuit, completely fixes this problem 100%, permanently, and forever. It does not require firewall modifications, or anything. I have seen no message to login to an Intuit account, even if I was at gunpoint, as the software was not coded to require this, as it was in release 6.

A smart person has read the release notes and doesn't mind signing in as the Administrator every 90 days. But apparently you have not read these posts. We are not talking about signing on as an Administrator, we are talking about signing into the intuit website. You should not have to jump through hoops to use a computer program, especially one you have paid hundreds of dollars for. Good try but no cigar!

Apparently, either you have NOT READ what I wrote, or you can't read. Re-read my post carefully... or if you can't, I'll do it for you.

The Intuit account requires an active internet connection and user account registration. Logging into a local company file as the administrator (which is how the software has worked for decades) is not what I referred to, nor does this entire thread. Every moron that walks the earth already knows that the prompt to login to a company file can be delayed for 90 days. The online Intuit account prompt, is something I have NEVER experienced on our production company file, since using the software since 2020, since I have been on release 5. The only prompt I see when opening Quickbooks is the local prompt to enter my admin username and password to access the local company file. 

 

Does this make sense, or should I translate this into a different language? 

 

As stated previously, for Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020, Release 6 forces the user to login online permanently, and forces the user to update their company file - preventing a rollback. Release 5 does not, and previous releases for other software versions/years do not either. Fortunately, I have archived all desktop releases from 2010 up until 2022, for this very reason. Installing a release (5 in this case) prior to the forced change, negates this entire issue... There is no login prompt for an Intuit account - ever.

 

For anyone else that needs a specific release that has been pulled off Intuit's servers, search which one you need for your software after reviewing the release notes for your particular version/year, and send me a DM. I have access to hundreds of them.

This is a good answer for 2020 version.

 

For 2019 users like me, I can’t quite pin down which “patch” implemented this horrible feature. I went through the release notes for 2019 patches with a fine tooth comb. It looks to me like the text was modified at some point because there is one release note where it looks like all the comments were conspicuously deleted. If anybody knows which patch number for 2019 started this trouble, that would be good info to have.

You have used the word Administrator many times. You don't have to be the Administrator to log on to the Intuit website, just an email address (or whatever you use for a username) and a password. Much the same as when you log into this forum, but when you have Quickbooks opened it allows Intuit to see your database. The cigars in your court.

Our Issue is we don't want to have to set up a Intuit account for every single Quickbooks file we have.

We are a CPA Firm and Pro Advisor.    Our Clients haven't given us authorization to set them

up an account with Quickbook.     Been using Quickbooks since 2003.   But this is just being railroaded so Intuit can charge a monthly fee.

I can certainly understand your concern with having to set up Intuit accounts, however, I'd like to share some of the reasons why this is now a requirement.

 

Working with an Intuit account delivers an improved user experience and includes new security protocols for subscribers. Your account will provide security to company data and a single-source log in for access to all of Intuit's offers. This change was implemented after Intuit received numerous feature requests from users recognizing the importance of having an Admin login for their company files.

 

Here's some highlighted key-benefits of using an Intuit account:

  • You'll receive an improved user experience.
  • Intuit accounts are configured with higher security.
  • The same user ID and passwords can be used to manage your assets and connected services for each product you own.
  • There's now a new level of security when managing access and permissions to your products.
  • Intuit accounts provide a platform to control user's access to all of the connected services, without granting access to your company file.

 

Currently, Intuit accounts are a requirement in the following scenarios:

  • When a new company file is created.
  • For subscribers with add-on services (QuickBooks Payments, QuickBooks Payroll, etc.).
  • When any existing company file is opened using its admin credentials and no Intuit account is associated with it yet. QuickBooks Pro and Premier subscribers will have an option to delay this action for up to 28 days. QuickBooks Enterprise users have an option to delay it up to 42 days.

Whether you really believe all the nonsense you have just dumped out or not really isn't the point. You are paid to say what you say. Good for you. You have a paying job. 

 

Now, as to the rest of us, we don't believe one bit of it. Collectively, I will go out on a limb when I say this, but we have a great deal more actual user experience with the QBD product than any Intuit employee. We don't buy your explanation. Not one bit of it. Our user experience decreased substantially when you patched the desktop product to require logging into an Intuit account. All you have to do to confirm that is to read back through this thread. Since that patch was snuck in without any clear explanation of what the patch would do we no longer trust Intuit. Whether as a company Intuit downloads, or even accesses and examines our data, or our client's data is unclear to me at this point. But, I'm not about to give you the chance by logging in from the product software. And whoa be it to Intuit if any user is ever able to discover that you even have that capability, nevermind whether you have used it. Lawsuit city. Class action lawsuit city. And I would be signing on to that within 90 seconds of receiving that news. Probably along with hundreds of others.

 

So, before you repeat telling us how great this change is for us, let's play a little game of "You show me yours, and then I'll show you mine." Just post your name, DOB, SSN, and primary bank account routing number and account number, and email address. Then we would be on a more even footing since you are demanding the same from us.

This popup dialog is extremely annoying when we use an automatic WebConnector  So we use a Web Connect that runs every couple of minutes to allow us to push invoices into Quickbooks desktop enterprise. This popup shows up every 25 days and breaks the automation. The connector stops and says 'waiting for open dialog' or something like that.  Then when we bypass the popup, quickbooks is locked up and I have to force quit the connector and Quickbooks. Then restart them.  This is quite ridiculous for sure.  Can I please stop that popup, at least on our main server? Or at least don't pop up that dumb prompt when QB is opened by the WebConnector.  How is the web connector going to sign in to a command prompt?  I sometimes can't believe how many significant issues really exist in QB and it is still so widely used.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, Send Feedback Online, then Product Suggestion....
  2. Choose a Type of Feedback and Product Area (optional) from your available drop-down menus.
  3. Enter any suggestions/feedback in the Here is my suggestion: field.
  4. If you'd like, include your name/email in the My name is: (optional) and My e-mail address is: (optional) fields.
  5. Select Send Feedback.
