Let me be clear about all this.
NONE of your customers who do NOT have online accounts want or need extra logins and delays to access information. Even if we had small offices with some people, if we're not subscribing to Intuit online services, and we just have a small bookkeeping requirement, we just want to login to our QB account with or WITHOUT a password, and do our work.
I understand locking down online content. Intuit is responsible for the safety of that content. However, LOCAL, private content is NOT the responsibility or Intuit, nor should Intuit be forcing us to access ANY online services and gain access to our private, personal financial information just because we purchased software to do accounting!
A few techs from Intuit have responded on this thread, giving us a few options to stop the service, including an ALT-F4 (universal close window command for Windows-based computers) to exit the annoying pop-up requiring us to login every 7 days, and turning off 3rd party access to our data/program.
Unless you have something new to add, if you're an official Intuit representative, you should not be recycling old information, nor should you be giving us bogus responses. If you want to respond to a long thread, then you must read the ENTIRE thread!
None of us are Intuit employees, and we've all read the thread, hoping for answers.
Unfortunately, Intuit's support ranges from people who really do not understand English well, have no clue what the problem is, or cannot be bothered to read and comprehend the entire thread, to those who understand that these 'features' are forced upon us and they know about workarounds, which they have shared with the community.
Contacting Intuit to have a support rep. gain remote access to my computer for 5 hours, ultimately NOT solving the problem, and telling me to reinstall my operating system and Quickbooks... again, resulting in NO solution, is beyond ignorant. Telling us that 'laws' require Intuit to force us to login to an online account that DOES NOT EXIST isn't just ignorance, it's an outright lie, and likely breaks our customer agreement with your company.
So...advice to techs who are reading this thread: please read the entire thread, and if you don't understand, DO NOT respond!
For those techs who did understand and gave us the workarounds, THANK YOU!
All the rest...you're making Intuit look horrible. Please stop. Thank you.
By the way... I should add...
I'm receiving email updates to this thread. In order to reply, I must do the following absurd actions:
1 - Attempt to login to my Quickbooks online account
2 - Enter a multi-stage CAPTCHA
3 - Send a 'code' to either my email or cell phone via text
4 - Enter the code, get to the beginning of the thread...
5 - Find the newest response, hit reply, and attempt to respond
This is a perfect example of the frustration that all of us experience when we use Quickbooks in general, but when we are prevented from accessing a file that some of us have used for many years, just because YOU decided it should be more 'secure,' that crosses a line.
I agree with wsdave. You are not listening. You are not "securing" my data by nosing into it. You are the ones that are creating a security breach. If we are paying for the desktop version, you should respect our privacy. GET OUT OF OUR DATA FILES. And don't tell me you aren't using the data that way - it's irrelevant what you are doing. It's simply none of your business. Your impositional marketing is costing you business. We are a developer with multiple companies and we recently began using competing software. We have two more acquisitions underway - and we're going with the competition. Keep it up and we'll migrate the rest.
Get over yourselves Intuit, and start listening to your customers or you will keep losing them.
If only we could get a BOT to tweet the CEO your reply in the sufficient number of characters and have this BOT bombard his Inbox to the point that he has to act or delete his Twitter account. Maybe that would cause something to happen with this issue that no one in QB seems to care about for all of us stand alone desktop users who don't use QB in an online environment.
I agree with others.
1) I purchased the desktop version due to security concerns
2) I now have what I consider a security breach in that my email address has created a link between TWO accounts that I do bookeeping for and that connection is ON THE INTERNET!
3) THIS IS EXACTLY what I DID NOT WANT!
4) This is NOT A FEATURE
5) This is NOT SECURE
6) THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT
SOLUTION:
1) Listen to your customers
2) Consider user applications of your products
3) Look for untended consequences prior to launch
4) Provide "Desktop only" customers to define specific security options:
A) I - the user - should have the choice to DISABLE ANY AND ALL Connections to the internet.
Including software updates!
I should be able to download software updates and install them without connecting my machine to the internet!
B) The USER should be able to MAKE THE CHOICE to TURN ON AND OFF Connections to the internet .
C) My software provider - YOU - should not have ANY RECORD OR INFLUENCE of those choices!
D) YOU should not want the RISK of maintaining this level of my financial data!
Seriously - if you cannot respect my privacy concerns at such a basic level I am having a really hard time trusting you with anything!
JasroV and ALL QB employees posting on this comment:
GET A BRAIN. You purposefully ignore your CUSTOMER'S DEMAND and feedback:
WE DO NOT WANT TO BE REQUIRED TO LOGIN TO INTUIT TO USE OUR PURCHASED QB PROGRAM ON OUR OWN COMPUTER.
Do you understand? Please respond - either yes or no.
Yes is the honest answer. NO is the Borg answer. Which one do you choose?
It is that clear. For the sake of keeping your customers (which pays for your job), you need to make the right choice.
My goodness---- we keep trying to tell you... THIS IS FOR A STAND ALONE PRODUCT!
Why do you need US to log in to YOUR SERVER when we are accessing a LOCAL FILE on OUR computer?
I do NOT want my local accounting computer to connect to Intuit.
Why is my file safer on my computer if I log in to Intuit? The logic fails belief...
A still frustrated long time Intuit customer and advocate, (since 1997!) who is seriously looking for alternatives.
Mike
To every QB user in this thread,
Punch the "Cheer" button on every QB Customer comment telling the QB minions we do not to be required to login in to an Intuit account to use QB on our computers.
Punch everyone, everyone time, blast the algorithm with your votes.
If QB does not change the requirement, then we must change to another product.
My Quickbooks is requiring me to sign into Intuit EVERYTIME I open company. We have four different companies, and we go in between them several times a day. This is getting very time consuming and VERY irritating.
I've used Quicken, Quickpay, and Quickbooks since it first came out in the 1980's, but I'm about to look for a different program.
exactly... how do i stop this miserable 90's UI for 2021 desktop platform from making me login every time i open it. tech companies will do anything anything to not actually provide tech support. they purposely make an endless login verify txt cycle to make it so horrible people just give up just to get here. my question is also unanswered in this chat hole as the UI for 2021 has changed and none of these answers match what i'm seeing because the menus have changed. this type of corporate scam behavior is the worst i've seen in any platform and it fills me with rage.

Are you saying that Alt-F4 does not close the login window anymore? It does not give you a week before the next attempt?
Intuit, you have lost your customer's trust.
Yes, if anyone has another accounting software option, please let us know.
Whenever companies do bad stuff like this forcing you to login even when you purchased a desktop, it is time to look for another one. See, intuit gets arrogant as most companies have already had their business files engrained with QB software that most won't change and suck it up.
I am sure they know well that most non-tech business persons may not know what Alt-F4 does. So, it seems to me they are simply testing out the water, before they move to force people to login!? They could have easily made the software non-usable unless you have a intuit login. This is a really SEEDY act!! Disappointing! They may as well put up a big banner to have a smiley face laughing at us as losers. They are the winners as what can we small businesses do anyway, right!?
Ok... Alt-F4 does the trick to close the login window. However, it should have at least ask and let users to click "NO" instead of having to use a built-in Windows function keys. Again.. this is seedy.
Anyway, this is what I will have to do now:
1) start looking, and spread the word to other new-found businesses watching out for that.
2) don't want to update QB anymore.. Who knows what they would do in the next release.. they could easily stop you from getting your company file unless you have to sign on online.
Time to find another software, and do let your friends and family know about what has happened and help them to make a better choice what to buy.
Unless Intuit did something to restore customers' trust, I won't upgrade any more.
I'm going to my accountant to seek advice.. Other advice, please.
I think the programmers have 'lost the plot' in this case.
Perhaps they think everything is migrating to be online and they want to keep us safe in their harbour.
Someone forgot to remind them that a desktop programme was just that, desktop with possibility to go online (help pages etc)... but we mostly wanted an OFFLINE programme. Where WE can choose IF and WHEN we connect to the internet.
My data is safer on my computer... logging in to Intuit first does not make my local file safer, it actually makes it less so.
Please, Intuit, either turn this OFF, or have a clear switch in the preferences that we can switch it off ourselves.
And now, just to reply to this message I needed to log in again, and have a verification code emailed to me..
And, the email has the gall to tell me I requested a verification.
No - You did, not me, I did not ask verify that this was me!
I manage a dozen QB installs from Pro to Enterprise. Each time Intuit does something to irritate me (e.g. force me to upgrade to a new product that does not even address problems with the old one) I investigate accounting software alternatives. For my own QB install, I've not found one yet that I can use to link with my bank. I will even switch to a new bank if necessary to get rid of QB.
This pop-up is just another example of how Intuit works. My opinion is that Intuit 1) does not care about what we think and 2) they are so big they think they can do whatever the heck they want.
Intuit's responses in this forum are useless.
I do not believe Intuit will do anything about this, and I signed into this community forum simply to vent and share my experience. I am nearly at the point where I will gladly go through the pain of switching, just to be rid of this crap. Intuit's crap like this destroys any loyalty I might have felt towards QB.
I have implemented the solution below, and I continue to get the pop requests it is supposed to stop.
Thanks for your feedback, @KevilQuinley,
QuickBooks use in-product pop-ups and ads to help optimize your QuickBooks experience by suggesting new features and program updates.
In the meantime, you can simply turn it off by following the steps below:
You can also remove the the check mark for What's New, under the Help menu. See this:
Regarding the new security requirement in the program, every user type has specific control to the company file, which leads us to add additional security to ensure you are protected. Account specific tasks within the company file, will require admin rights to complete.
We understand your concerns with regards to the convenience of logging in like you normally do before. But this added security is in line with our commitment to protect our customers.
To learn more about this feature, we have an official release so our customers are aware of the changes. See it here: Intuit account – Why now for QuickBooks Desktop?
We want your voice to be heard and be put in action. To log a suggestion to our developers, go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
If you have other questions, feel free to drop them here. This thread will remain open for your questions or feedback. I'm also here if you need anything else.
Jen_D,
I apologize but
That has absolutely nothing to do with what this thread is talking about. Please read the thread and understand we are not complaining about pop up ads but the additional login screen.
Jen_D,
What you show does not help this problem, at least it has not for us. We still get this prompt regardless of the settings you show.
Any other ideas?
Your suggestions would be moderately helpful (I already knew most of them since I've been using QB for over 20 years), if I could only get into my QB account I would try the ones I don't already know. Now QB is insisting that I update to 2020, which I do NOT want to do.
If you have any suggestions how I can get into MY software and turn that pop-up off, that would be helpful. BTW that pop-up resides outside of the program.
Wish I could say I'm shocked...but I'm NOT.
As a follow up to my post, the CEO responded to me and said I would be contacted by someone in his office. Never happened. Clearly, QB higher ups don’t really care about us.
All QB users, take note. Our common sense DEMAND has finally risen to the level of a Moderator. Keep up your action. As before, for every QB users stating they do want to remove the requirement to login into Intuit just to access QB on THEIR OWN PC, click the "Cheer" button. The more we Cheer and support them, the louder it gets for QB to here the CUSTOMERS.
Jen_D - Thanks for chiming in as a Moderator. You can now be part of the problem, or part of the solution. It is simple - QB customers DO NOT WANT TO LOGIN to Intuit to use THEIR OWN QB PROGRAM ON THEIR OWN PC. We cannot make it any clearer than that. Tell your managers, tell your directors, tell marketing & sales, tell the C-offices. Hundreds have told QB this fact. Thousands remain frustrated. QB has a major problem identified by many, many customers. Will you listen and help correct the problem? You have a choice, be part of the solution, or be part of the Borg. Choose wisely. Your customers await.
