How to import data from GoDaddy Bookkeeping CSV file into QuickBooks Self-Employee?

Hi,

I exported my transactions CSV file from GoDaddy Bookkeeping and I'm trying to import this data to my QuickBooks Self-Employed account; however, I'm not able to match up all the columns with the options that QuickBooks provides.

In the GoDaddy data there are columns for "Category" and "Payee" but I see that these are not column options for the import.  I'm not going to be able to manually enter in the "Category" and "Payee" information for all my transactions; is there anyway to successfully import this data so it shows properly in QuickBooks?

Thank you!

QBSE is a stand alone product. You can only import bank transactions. Consider to open QB Online account instead to import your data or purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

How to import data from GoDaddy Bookkeeping CSV file into QuickBooks Self-Employee?

Let's ensure to import your data correctly into QuickBooks Self-Employed, Dali748.

Ideally, when you use spreadsheets, this lets you import the information correctly. You'll want to manually upload your transactions with a CSV file. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Profile icon and select Imports.
  2. Select Import transactions.
  3. Follow the onscreen steps to upload the CSV file.
  4. Select Import.

However, we still recommend connecting your accounts to online banking to simplify money management and for easier and more convenient transactions. But if you still want to import your data using GoDaddy Bookkeeping, I suggest reaching out to their support team so they can provide you with several ways how to do it.

On the other hand, QuickBooks puts transactions on the correct line of Schedule C when categorizing transactions. To learn more about how to do it, I've got this article for your guide: Categorize Transactions In QuickBooks Self-Employed.

This isn't helpful, please see screenshot image link below of my CSV export of transactions from GoDaddy Bookkeeping website.

Where in QuickBooks Self-Employed can I select "Category" and "Payee" columns from the "import transactions" QuickBooks page?

How to import data from GoDaddy Bookkeeping CSV file into QuickBooks Self-Employee?

Thanks for reaching out to the Community about your concern, @Dali748.

In QuickBooks, we can only upload CSVs with either the following 3-column or 4-column format. These are the only columns QuickBooks can handle and each bank formats CSV files differently. This means you may not be able to import CSVs from certain banks since files don't have the format QuickBooks needs.

The 3-column format has a Date, Description, and Amount column. While the 4-column format has a Date, Description, Credit, and Debit column. To import them successfully, let's make sure your CSV file is formatted correctly. Just check out this article for some guidelines: Import bank transactions using Excel CSV files. Check out this guide for more information on how to move previous bank data into your company: Manually import transactions into QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Once done, manually categorize the payee and category by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Find a transaction on the list.
  3. Select Business if the transaction was for business, or select Personal for personal. If the transaction was both, select Split.
  4. Review the category in the Category column. QuickBooks tries to categorize transactions for you.
  5. If you need to change the category, select the category link. Select a general type, and choose a more detailed category.
  6. When you're done, press Save.

Here's an article you can refer to for more details about categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed. You can also create and use rules to quickly categorize recent and past transactions in your QuickBooks Self-Employed account. I appreciate you joining the thread, @JamesC49. Let me help you sort things out.

Before we proceed, I'd like to verify if you are still attempting to link your GoDaddy bank account to QuickBooks Self-Employed. By confirming this, we can delve deeper into the issue and provide you with appropriate guidance for the next steps.

If you've already started uploading your CSV file, then the stored cache for a long time in your browser is likely the reason why you're experiencing the banking problem. I recommend performing some basic troubleshooting procedures to check if this is a browser-related issue.

Let's start by opening your QuickBooks Online account on a private page or incognito window. This mode won't save any browsing history. Here are the shortcut keys to open it:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

After that, you may re-upload the file. If you're able to proceed with ease, then you'll have to clear your browser cache regularlyNote: The article in the previous hyperlink also applies to QBSE. This prevents strange behavior in your browser. Otherwise, use another supported browser for the best experience when using QuickBooks.

Additionally, it'd be helpful if you could provide a screenshot displaying the name of your bank company and the error message you are encountering. This will allow us to investigate the matter more thoroughly and offer potential solutions.
