An error occurs when the mapping of your qbo file is incorrect. Make sure to plot the right columns in the mapping stage so that QuickBooks Online (QBO) will read the data.
You can also upload your bank statements using a CSV file. This data uses either a 3 (Date, Description, and Amount) or 4-column (Date, Description, Credit, and Debit) format. Change the names to match the titles in the system.
Check out this article for the sample template format: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.
If you're still getting the same issue, you can go through this article for other troubleshooting steps: Fix bank upload errors in QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, can I ask for the specific error you're facing in QuickBooks? Which account are having issues with? I want to make sure I've got you covered.
Let me know if you have other questions about uploading your bank transactions or if you ran into a different situation by adding a reply below so I can look further into this. Have a lovely week.
Thank you @Rose-A for your reply. Unfortunately I still get the error.
I never had to change anything within the file that I downloaded from my online banking. This just started a few weeks ago and only for one of my checking accounts. With all the other bank accounts it works. And the only reason I am manually uploading my bank transactions is because the connection to my bank (so it automatically imports transactions) wouldn't work for years now. I opened tickets back then with QB online but the issue was never solved.
Anyway, when I try to upload the QBO file from this one checking account I get this error: The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.
When I try to upload the CSV file I get this error: Error while reading the file. Verify that file type is CSV.
And yes, it is a CSV file..
Your help is much appreciated.
I don't know where my reply post went, so here again..
Thank you @Rose-A Unfortunately I still get errors. I don't think it is an issue within my files, QB online simply doesn't read my file type correctly.
When trying to upload a QBO file I get this error:
The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.
When trying to upload a CSV file I get this error:
Error while reading the file. Verify that file type is CSV.
And yes, it is a CSV file
I would just connect QB online to my bank, but that stopped working years ago already.. QB online never solved that problem.
This all is very frustrating. I'd expect more from a paid service.
Your help is much appreciated.
Let's get the transactions imported, Andreas4. I'm here to help you.
We'll have to ensure the file extensions are correct. It should either end with .qbo or .csv.
However, if the file extension is correct, the unexpected behavior can be caused by too much cache. We'll perform a few steps to fix it. Let's start with logging into your account through a private browser. It's the best spot to isolate web issues. Here are the shortcut keys:
If you're able to import the bank transactions, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache to refresh the system. We advise our users to delete them now and then to prevent and fix browser hiccups.
Moreover, you can use a different web browser to narrow down the issue.
Once they're imported, you can categorize the bank transactions.
Get back to this thread if you need more help. We're just one comment away. Keep safe!
Hi @Kristine Mae thank you for your help. The file has the correct extension. I tried it in a private session and a different browser, but still no luck. Is there something else I can try? Thank you!
Thanks for keeping us posted, andreas4.
I do appreciate you for performing the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague. We can try saving the file again as CSV and then re-upload it into the system. Let me show you how:
Close the Excel window and go to your QuickBooks Online account using a private browser. Upload the file again and then. If in case you're still having the same result, I'd suggest reaching out to our Phone Support Team so we can investigate further.
