Hello-
I went to open my compny in quickbooks and got this error:
The document “[my company's file name]” could not be opened. QuickBooks cannot open files in the “iCloud synchronization file” format.
Does anyone know what has happened how to retrieve my file?

You cannot "run" company files that are located on icloud. You can use icloud to save backups and download a backup to hard drive to restore from but your company file should always reside on the same hard drive as the software program running it
I had the same issue on Windows and caused me a lot of headaches and restoring my company files etc.
It was at a time when I moved to a new PC so it was difficult to pinpoint the issue.
At the end what I realized that the issue was with the iCloud windows 10 application.
QB is unable to open the company file if it is in iCloud folder via the iCloud for windows app that is installed via the Microsoft app store (current version 12.5). If you use the version of iCloud that is for Windows 7/8/10/11 (current version 7.21) then it is working perfectly on both windows 10 and 11.
Here is the link to that in case someone needs that.
I still can’t get any of my companies to open. Any suggestions?
Welcome to the Community, @Miss Heidi.
I'll provide information for you to open your companies in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
To begin, could you let us know if you've encountered any specific error when attempting to open QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)? This will help us provide accurate information to resolve your concern.
In the meantime, please avoid clicking the QBDT icon repeatedly, as it may not open immediately. It’s best to allow the program some time to load. If the issue persists, try restarting your computer and reopening QBDT as an administrator. We can also run the QuickBooks Toolhub to run the Quick Fix My Program so it'll quickly repair your program. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Download the QuickBooks Tool hub
Step 2: Run Quick Fix My Program
