I went to open my compny in quickbooks and got this error:
The document “[my company's file name]” could not be opened. QuickBooks cannot open files in the “iCloud synchronization file” format.
Does anyone know what has happened how to retrieve my file?

You cannot "run" company files that are located on icloud. You can use icloud to save backups and download a backup to hard drive to restore from but your company file should always reside on the same hard drive as the software program running it
I had the same issue on Windows and caused me a lot of headaches and restoring my company files etc.
It was at a time when I moved to a new PC so it was difficult to pinpoint the issue.
At the end what I realized that the issue was with the iCloud windows 10 application.
QB is unable to open the company file if it is in iCloud folder via the iCloud for windows app that is installed via the Microsoft app store (current version 12.5). If you use the version of iCloud that is for Windows 7/8/10/11 (current version 7.21) then it is working perfectly on both windows 10 and 11.
Here is the link to that in case someone needs that.
