iif file

I'm trying to import iif files to quickbooks. been doing this for 22 years. my problem now is no one can help me.

i use room Master a program for hotels. i create the iif file in room Master than import it to quickbooks. it brings over all the information but it wipes out the description of my chart of accounts.

I have called Room Master support and they say its a quickbooks problem. I called quickbooks support spent one and a half hours on the phone they tried to help me but nothing worked. they say the only way is if i send them the file and it would take about two weeks to fix it. I would not be able to do any work while they have the file. what i'm doing now to manually entering the description every time i import the iif file. i have to import 2x a week. Please help if you can

Thank you,

Rita

Thanks for sharing the details of your concern,@Ritar927.

Currently, Intuit doesn't offer technical support for the process of importing and exporting IIF files. Since you've already reached out to our specialist, I'd suggest going with their suggestion. That way, they can help you fix your file.

Here's how you can reach out to them:

  1. Go to the Help icon and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Write your concerns in the description box, then select Continue.
  4. Select which one of the support options you'd like to use.

Please check out our support hours to ensure that we address your concerns on time.

While they're working, you can create a back copy of your IIF files. That way, you can still continue importing your files into QuickBooks.

For more info about exporting, importing, and editing IIF files, check out this article:  How to import and export Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) files to and from QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to reach back out anytime. Stay safe.

@Ritar927

There are some ongoing issues with IIF feature since QBD 2019. Consider to use a 3rd party tool to import IIF files.

I appreciate for getting back to us as well as performing a workaround, @Ritar927.

I'll go over how we can resolve this issue so you can easily import your chart of accounts into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To begin with, you'll want to ensure you used the correct .IIF format to import your accounts successfully. Also, make certain your QBDT is up to date so that the system is running with the newest features and fixes.

After that, launch the Verify & Rebuild tool. This scans your company file for potential errors and fixes them immediately.

I'll show you how to Verify:

  1. Go to the Window menu and select Close All.
  2. Then, go to the File menu.
  3. Select Utilities.
  4. Click Verify Data.

To Rebuild:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Rebuild Data.

You can also check this article for more detailed steps: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop

If this is not the case, as Fiat Lux - ASIA suggested, you can use a third-party app that allows you to import your chart of accounts. Simply navigate to the App Center QBDT and search for an app there.

You can also visit our Apps for QuickBooks Desktop page for reference.

When you're finished, you might want to look at this resource to learn more about using an.IIF file: Tasks you can do with IIF files.

I'll be available if you have any further questions about your .IIF file or QDBT. Please include any additional information in your response, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Keep yourself safe!
