Warning!! Major Problem with Melio and unauthorized changes to my account and anyone else that has an account.
I did not ever set up an account with Melio. Apparently back on Sept 25, 2021, Melio connected with my QBO account automatically. The app appeared on my account in "my apps". I did not know this until recently when entries were made to my QB bill and changed line items and other information. Melio automatically entered this information and they say it is a glitch. Melio is capable of changing information in QBO bills and it is automatic, check the audit log, and appears as if I made the changes. It changed a bill that I had just entered and changed the bill number, dates, who edited, description and entered 'Melio amount change" and created a bill that didn't exist from a current bill, which then the current bill was gone. I became aware when I was paying bills, that a bill was present that I was not aware of. I've talked to 4 or 6 people at QB and no one is aware of this or did not disclose this during conversations. Very frustrating as it took many calls and finally I went on the web and had Melio send me a link to make a password so that I could chat with them as this is the only way to communicate with them. The support email and phone number are useless. This should be information available to level one personnel at QBO to explain what is a serious issue. It is also alarming that a 3rd party app was able to get into my account and change entries to create a whole different bill when it should only be for bill pay. Alarming that QBO isn't sending out an email to inform people that this is happening. We should be informed that Melio auto-connected within QBO, made an account and has access to all our bills, and has a "glitch" which is more than a glitch. In order to delete the Melio account, you have to chat with them to absolutely disconnect. Otherwise, they are still connected and changes can still be made, and getting rid of the app in QBO isn't disconnecting Melio, it is just getting rid of the app.
Hi there, @RU10.
Thank you for the insights you've shared about the matter to give awareness to other users.
I understand that this needs to be looked over. I encourage you to contact our Customer Care Support team again. This way, this issue would be investigated further.
Here's how:
To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours.
Keep us posted if you have other concerns, @RU10. We're always here to help. Have a great day.
We have direct contact with Melio and passed your testimony on to them. They claimed that they were not familiar with the story and it was portrayed as very out of character for them. We want to give them the opportunity to respond to your concerns appropriately and you can send a private message to us as the first step.
Was there any resolution to this?
I see a Melio Indirect edit on one of my bills- that I know I did not make myself...
This is quite alarming, userjcrabtree.
Let's use the Audit Log report to check the activities within your account. Doing so helps us determine if someone edited or added the bills accidentally.
Here's how:
Once you see the user, I'd suggest modifying or deleting their access to your account to avoid this in the future.
If you can't determine who made the changes, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have full access to your account and can review these bills. They can also investigate its cause to ensure it won't happen again.
Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you customize your user roles to provide individual access for specific tasks: Different Options for Permissions.
Please keep us posted on how the process goes. We want to make sure your account is always safe and secure.
It shows the user who edited as myself, but it says (Indirect Edit).
Here is the charge and description for reference - maybe this resulted if an invoice was updated after a payment was submitted (because its trying to match the amount in QBO to the Payment amount made by Melio)
Melio amount change - Uncategorized Expense
I just now found the same thing in my QBO company. I deliberately updated an existing Vendor bill on September 10, 2022 at 8:52PM. This vendor bill had already been paid and was last edited on August 1. On September 10 at 11:57PM, the history of the transaction shows that I edited it again and negated the change I made at 8:52PM as to the account and amount, but the description data field says "Melio amount change". I DID NOT MAKE THIS CHANGE. I DO NOT USE MELIO!!! This is a serious problem that needs immediate resolution.
I can imagine the hurdle you’ve been through in sorting out your concern with unauthorized entries from Melio, @TMiller.
Please know that we understand your feelings, and this isn’t the kind of impression that we’d like you to have. I've come to share some updates on this matter.
We understand that you've already chatted out support, and were able to correct the changes and disconnect. We see this is an experience that our customers are experiencing. Rest assured that we'll forward this feedback to our team about Melio.
Please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread if you have other QBO-related concerns. I’ll be here to help in any way I can. Keep safe always.
How do I get this Melio unauthorized entries to STOP?
This is a MAJOR problem for us and clearing bills that are due to vendors.
I am having the same problem. I tried to delete the unauthorized change and it just came back! When I called Intuit the answer is just to call Melio - a company I have no account with, did not sign up for and in no way authorized to use my QBO. This is unacceptable!!!!!
I have had very similar issues. I have never used the app, yet it was connected to one of my clients, that has never used the app. Bills have been changed to different amounts and have "melio change" written in the description. I just now manually disconnected the app. Hopefully this will solve it. Personally I find this an unacceptable glitch. My clients pay me to handle their bills and QuickBooks accounts. If it were to continue, I would have no choice but to start advising them to use other software. Security must be an absolute priority.
Thank you for sharing this with us, diana-johnmccart.
I can imagine how I would also react when I know there are unauthorized changes to my account. I know you've already gotten in touch with our support team to disconnect Melio. I'd like to add some insight to this. Since Melio is the back-end provider behind BillPay in QuickBooks, once you've signed up for our service, you've already given consent to give Melio access to your account.
Either way, we've taken this thread and already passed it to the appropriate team so they can see how they can improve this experience and dig deeper into the issue. Anyway, if you have any other concerns about any of your transactions, just let us know so we can check on them and assist you further.
AND the security breach continues even after disconnecting Melio in QBO!
For about a year, I've been getting email from "Intuit Service" that alerts me to bills to be paid. I thought it was just a "friendly" reminder from Intuit. Now that I look more closely at those emails they are being sent by, guess who? Intuit Service <service@qbousers.meliopayments.com> And this continues AFTER disconnecting Melio!
To all of you on this thread: check your emails for this same thing. Would be good to know if you have the same experience.
Intuit/Quickbooks you need to seriously address this whole issue NOW. I have never used BillPay. I have never completed a sign-up for it. I went down that path one day about a year ago, but stopped short of connecting my bank account to it because I did not know anything about the companies/banks that are used in the process. Like another poster mentioned, I have not account with Melio and no way to communicate with them. This is an Intuit/Quickbooks issue to allow this to go on. You are letting them continue to exploit this vulnerability in YOUR security protocol.
This just happened to us. My invoices did not balance out, and I found an adjustment on two invoices that said Melio adjustment. Who is Melio and why are they in my QuickBooks account? We have no relationship with them whatsoever. I wish I had saved a screen shot before I edited it!!
Hello there, erbrel.
I'm here to more information why there's Melio transactions on your QuickBooks Online account.
You may have signed up BillPay in QuickBooks. Since Melio is the back-end provider behind BillPay in QuickBooks, once you've signed up for our service, you've already given consent to give Melio access to your account.
I've added this link as your guide in paying bills: What is Online Bill Pay?
Keep us posted if you have other concerns. We're always here to help.

I have Melio add an expense to a bill and then subtracted the expense. In the Audit trail, it states that I did that. QUICKBOOKS - you can see that this is a problem. So please do something about it. Don't say to call Customer Support. They can't do anything nor do they know anything. I am getting phone calls and text messages asking for the name of the person who owns our Quickbooks account - so I know something is wrong. THIS IS GOING TO END UP BEING A BIG PROBLEM FOR QUICKBOOKS IF YOU DO NOT INVESTIGATE THIS.
Hello Joining the Melio Amount Change club
I had a vendor bill that was out of balance and it shows the difference in a "Melio Amount Change" Uncategorized Expense.
In the Audit trail it states that I Made the change,...of course I would remember if I did such a thing
this is not the first time it happens. We need this resolved
I recognize the importance of fixing this modified bill amount in QuickBooks Online. Let me provide you with possible remedies to resolve this disbalance bill amount.
Before we start, do you have other users that have access to your account? If so, this could be the reason why the audit log tracks the changes made within your QuickBooks Account. You can visit this article for your reference on user roles and access limits.
Moving forward, to fix the disbalance amount, we can exclude the bank transactions and enter the bill manually in Quickbooks. Make sure to match the bill amount to the Melio bill transaction amount.
Here's how to enter the bill:
I'm also including this page for your guide to managing your bills and business expenses: Enter and manage bill and bill payments in QuickBooks Online.
Keep me posted in this thread if you need a guide on creating a report in QuickBooks Online. I'll be here to support you.
OMFG. WTF are you talking about!!???! Did you ignore the entire thread? In my 25 years of using Quickbooks I have never run into such BS with Intuit. Please pass this thread up the ladder to tech support. This is a major problem. Intuit relies on trust and this is BREAKING IT. You have given a third party access to our client's information without authorization and they are CHANGING TRANSACTIONS WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION!!!. WTFS? How is this confusing for you?
If you want to help, tell us what button to click to DISCONNECT FROM MELIO THAT WE DID NOT AUTHORIZE CONNECTING TO IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!
@CedarE Scroll down to Apps on the bottom left. Select "My Apps" at the top and you should see Melio. You can disconnect here.
and 100% agreed on your sentiment. We never authorized Melio either and it scares me that they could make changes in our account.
We are having this same issue. "Melio amount change" keeps showing up on our bills and adjusting the amounts, therefore causing us to underpay our vendors. This has happened multiple times now. WE DID NOT SIGN UP TO USE "MELIO" NOR DO WE AUTHORIZE THEM TO MAKE CHANGES TO OUR TRANSACTIONS. This is incredibly frustrating and I just noticed the same thing about the reminder emails, they are coming from @qbousers.meliopayments.com...Why on earth am I getting these notifications and altered transactions from something I did NOT authorize to be in my account. I don't even have the option to disconnect the app from my account. When I go into "My Apps," Bill Pay Powered by Melio is listed, but it says "This app was connected by another user" I've checked with all of our other users and it says the same on all of theirs as well...How do I disconnect???
Why doesn't QB understand that its not a physical user making these changes?? Its this unauthorized "Melio" company making changes without our knowledge. This needs to be addressed.
I understand that this needs to be looked over, RachelHorizon. We are here to help and will do everything possible to make things right so you can juggle other tasks in your business.
Within QuickBooks Online (QBO), users who initially connected an app have the ability to disconnect it at their discretion. By visiting the Intuit App Center, unlink the connection between the respective programs.
Here's how:
However, if you're unable to find Disconnect in the menu, select Settings. Then, click the Disconnect button on the page.
If you're not the user connected to the app, I suggest switching access to it. Since only the Admin can connect and manage apps for the company. I'll guide you on how to do it.
Once done, follow the first batch of steps to disconnect.
For detailed instructions about this process, check out this article: Disconnect An App.
Furthermore, if you plan to cancel your subscription with Melio, it's recommended to contact their support team. Disconnecting the app will solely eliminate the connection from your QBO account. For their contact details, please follow this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/appdetails/melio/en-us/.
