Migration issue from QBD - retaining view only on Desktop data

This is not a question but rather a plea for people to give "Feedback" to Intuit regarding migration from QBD to QBO.

Intuit just announced that as of July 31, 2024, all QBD users MUST become part of the subscription model. Which might be okay, except we have converted many of our clients and we convert only the last 2 years of data bc it's a mess if you try to do more and then do the cleanup that most of these folks require. Our clients, until now, have been able to access their "old" QB Data in their "old" QB Desktop.

They need to be able to do this, in some cases in order to serve their customers (my client has to look up warranty and parts info) and in general, if they are audited, they need to go back to their QBD.

I just converted a very complex client data set and she couldn't get access to her QBD without first having a subscription to QBD 2024. So now she has to pay for this in addition to her (expensive) QBO subscription? No way. So I learned that QBD from 2023 forward has "View Only" privilege. This is fine. BUT it's only good for 365 days?  TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We had her do the subscription then cancel so she wouldn't have to pay for it. But Intuit is saying she won't be able to do this in a year. NO WAY! Our clients need to have access to their historical data in QBD without having to pay for a subscription.

So I am here to ask everyone to put feedback into Intuit to fix this! It stands in the way of convincing clients to do QBO conversions!!!!!!  And as usual Intuit doesn't tell their QBOA's anything about these policy changes. No, we have to learn the hard way with an upset client. thanks.

I was with you for most of this, but I cannot imagine why anybody would willingly go to QBO; the only argument I could see for it is QuickBooks' relentless campaign to either price people out of Desktop, or cripple Desktop through negligence.

It's certainly not because they're improving QBO.

Anyway, good luck with the feedback encouraging, but I suspect that particular function leads straight to QuickBook's data shredder.

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise as a workaround to access your historical data.
