My IDES rate for 2025 is 0.75% but quickbooks won't let me enter a rate below 0.85 %

I'll provide details about changing your IDES rate within QuickBooks, Brian. Let's dive into the specifics below.

Once you have received your updated State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate, you can proceed to make the necessary adjustments to your payroll records. Generally, you can expect to receive this updated rate either at the end of the current year or at the beginning of the new year.

If you're using QuickBooks Online, here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, navigate to Settings and select Payroll settings.

  2. Next to the state you want to update, select Edit.
  3. In the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section, select Change or add new rate.
  4. Enter your new rate and its effective date. For most states, the effective date is 1/1. For TN, VT, and NJ the date is 7/1. If you can't change the current year's rate, send your notice to us. We’ll update the rate for you.
  5. Enter any updated surcharge or assessment rates. Then, click OK.

For detailed information about changing the IDES rate, you can check out this article: Update your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate.

Yes, tried that twice already. Quickbooks returns an error message saying it can't be below 0.85%. Sorry, I don't feel like donating money to the state.

I appreciate you for following the steps I provided, Brian. We will now proceed with sending a payroll tax notice to change your IDES rate.

In QuickBooks, you can send a payroll tax notice if you're experiencing difficulties changing your IDES rate. Sending a notice will also depend on what payroll service you have. If you're not sure which payroll service you have, you can check it here.

Here's how to send your payroll tax notice:

  1. Handwrite your Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) on the first page of your tax notice. If you have more than one notice of discrepancy, send each one separately.
  2. Upload your notice by going to Taxes, then select Payroll tax.
  3. Select Resources.
  4. Select Tax Notice.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to send your notice to us.

After completing the process, you can refer to this article for additional steps to finalize everything: Send in your payroll tax notice. It also includes instructions for checking the status of your notices and answers to common questions about sending notices to QuickBooks.

Moreover, you can utilize these relevant articles to assist you with your employee and payroll transactions in QuickBooks.

Let us know if you have other concerns or questions regarding changing your IDES rate and sending your payroll tax notice. We'll be here to help you in any way we can.

IL has dropped the rates - why hasn't the input programming been changed to allow the new lower rates.  It is time consuming to have to send the notices to QB for each client that needs to be updated.

This is a major issue not being able to update the rate for all our clients.  Some are already running payroll for 1/3/25 and need the rate updated to .75%.  When will the system allow us to update the rates?  This is a QBO system error, not a client/accountant error.

This is not a notice of discrepancy but rather an annual Rate Determination. You have a bug in your software but apparently no intention to fix it.

I have emailed it to [email address removed]. I hope you resolve it on a timely basis.
