Hello, Norma3.
If you’re unable to restore QuickBooks portable file due to incorrect credentials, I’d recommend using the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop. This will let you set a new password after verifying some of the product’s information. Let me step in and provide some clarity.
While it may sound nice and easy for an accountant to change their client's company password they would have to be already a named company Admin to have that privilege.
In addition @Norma3 never indicated what type of file she is dealing with, only that it is on a stick and she wants to incorporate it into her client's company file.
The passwords are not that ridiculous that the client cannot provide to the accountant. We do so and our accountant never has a problem opening or working with our accountant's copy.
Would be nice, though , if @Norma3 would start a new question with more detail rather than piggybacking onto an entirely unrelated question
