NEW FORMAT

I understand that change can be challenging, and it can take some time to adjust to a new interface, llstarboatcare and katie_b8.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) has certain reports that are already formatted in a modern view. However, If you prefer the classic format, you have the option to switch back.

Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Reports tab, then choose the report you want to run.
  2. At the upper part of the page, click on the Switch to classic view option.

However, if you don't have the option to switch back to the classic view, . I encourage you to add your vote for this one by sending a feature request in the Feedback section within QuickBooks. Our product development team reviews all the feedback we receive to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers.

Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top, then select Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Moreover, I'll also share this article that can serve as your reference if you want to learn how to get the most out of your financial reports: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to post here in the Community if you have any concerns about the new format. We're always here ready to help. Have a good one!

This new format is horrible and will take me forever to integrate into my business. Please provide an actual way to revert to the old format. The way described above does not work. Thanks?

There are so many things wrong with this new format.. I cannot even invoice the way I was before. We send invoices from the field via the QuickBooks app and I can't even write more than a few sentences in the description! I have not been able to send  invoices since this change took place a couple of days ago.. PLEASE REVERT TO THE OLD FORMAT!!

Leizyim: this post is not about "reports" formats.. many aspects of QuickBooks online and the QuickBooks app have been completely reformatted. We need to have a way to revert to the way it was before. The new format is absolutely horrible. I can't even do invoices!!

NEW FORMAT

Hello there, @jarosplumbing. Know that we only wish you to experience the best kind of service while using the program.

I understand that some of the new updates have affected your ways of business in QuickBooks Online (QBO). One of these is limited characters that can be added in the description field and sending invoices via the QBO app.

As I have checked and replicated here on my end, the option to add a long description in the invoice is still possible. However, it only limits to four thousand (4000) characters.

For detailed information, kindly visit: Character limitations for fields in QuickBooks.

Also, there might have been some app or data issue on your end that has resulted in the unexpected behavior you are experiencing. To ensure that you'll get to add a long description and send invoices using the QBO application, I recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to sort out the issue.

Let me guide you on the quick steps to fix most app-related issues:

  1. Change the Wifi data connection on your device to 4G (varies by device).
  2. Close and restart the app.
  3. Clear app data. To do this:
    a. Open your device Settings.
    b. Select Apps (varies by device).
    c. Choose QuickBooks app from the list, then select Storage.
    d. Select clear data.
  4. Turn off and restart your device.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the app.

For detailed steps, kindly visit: Fix common errors in the QuickBooks Online mobile app for Android.

Additionally, I'll also share this link where you can browse for articles which can guide you with managing your QBO account: QuickBooks Online Help Articles.

I'm looking forward to having this sorted out. The Community team always has your back. Have a good one.

Some tech support... After hours on the phone, i found out that quickbooks updated 07/10/23.  This severely screwed up my business.. No one could tell me what to do, but then i found the following help thread.  If any of you are having problems with invoices or estimates, this will at least fix that: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/reports-and-accounting/how-to-go-back-to-previous-...

On a side note, the "update" is no longer compatible with my FOUR  business cell phones because they made it so android version 8.1 cannot run the app.  One of my employees deleted the app and tried to reinstall as fix.  Guess what?  It can't be reinstalled..  Thanks quickbooks! This cost me about six hours of my time and i'll likely have to buy four new cell phones.  PLEASE TELL THE DEVELOPERS TO SEND ME A WAY TO DOWNLOAD THE VERSION THAT CAN RUN ON ANDROID 8.1.

Extremely frustrated...

We have a software as a service product with 100 customers who all must use QBO to automate billing.

We have historically turned off custom transaction numbers to allow for the invoices to be auto numbered

It seems you are forcing people onto the new format, which defaults the settings back to "custom transaction numbers" turned ON.   I have gone in and reset them both in Account Settings and in Custom Form Styles- and quite often it even reverts back again!  this is causing my customers a ton of anxt (and of course my support staff).   Please please help tell me how to let people use the OLD FORMAT and keep custom transaction numbers OFF for good

Thanks for taking the time to share your concern about the new invoice format and turning off the Custom transaction numbers feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Cathy.

I understand that you want to go back to the old layouts where you are used to and I'm here to guide you on how to do it on your end.

Before doing so, please know that the new invoice format is designed to provide a more comprehensive overview of your transactions and improve the overall experience as it's based on the majority's needs, adapting to new technology's capabilities. However, we want you to know that we're not forcing you to use it. If you feel comfortable with the previous layout and prefer not to switch to the new format, there's absolutely no obligation to do so.

If you're currently in the new format, you can always switch back to the previous one in your QBO account. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to +New.
  2. Select Invoice.
  3. At the top right of the form, select Old layout.

To learn more about the new invoice experience or updates, check out this link: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.

With regard to your Custom Transaction numbers not turning off, let's go ahead and check if this is a browser-related issue by logging into your account using a private or incognito window. The system occasionally behaves strangely when the browser frequently accesses pages. It could be due to corrupted cache files in your browser.

When you're able to turn off the feature without it reverting back, it's safe to say that it's being caused by the browser. To rectify this, return to your regular browser and clear the cache. Sometimes, cached data can cause unexpected glitches. Clearing your browser's cache and cookies will help improve system performance.

If the same thing happens even with private browsing, let's use other supported browsers that meet the system requirements like Google Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox.

For future reference, here's an article you can visit that can guide you in recording your invoice payments in QBO: Receive invoice payment.

Keep me posted about the result by leaving your reply below. I want to ensure that this is taken care of. Take care, and I wish your business continued success.

Same! The input screen for my sales receipts stayed the same as it used to be, but the input screen for my invoices completely changed, and I no longer have access to the line I need to reference a PO# on. Additionally, the invoice/receipt template that I created years ago no longer defaults when using the app on my phone. Waiting to input all of my receipts or invoices until the end of the day when I get home on the computer is completely insane, and I can't tote a laptop around with me all day. This is why I have the app on my phone! Seriously at such a loss.

Same! I use the QB app on my phone on the daily, more than I use QB Online on the computer. The input screen for my sales receipts stayed the same as it used to be, but the input screen for my invoices completely changed, and I no longer have access to the line I have always referenced a PO# on. Additionally, the invoice/receipt template that I created years ago no longer shows up on my app at all. Some basic, awful excuse of a receipt that doesn't even list the items purchased is all that will appear, and then I have to individually resend all my receipts from the computer in the evening so they're correct. Toting a laptop with me all day is not an option. This is the whole point of the app, which I have used for years, and it's now completely pointless! I am at such a loss.

This format is awful. Harder to use the app. But the worst part of it all is that they got rid of the signature option on the invoices. I use the app to write up invoices, get a signature and then email in the signed invoice. Now I can't even collect signatures without printing the invoice. I now will have to buy a printer, print the invoices, get them signed and turned in

The whole point of using QuickBooks online is to stip using paper invoicing. I will be looking around at other accounting/invoicing options

When you have 30 or more accounts in your P&L, this takes too much time to have to switch every time you go from one account to the other, especially during closing.  We need a settings option to open with the classic view or the modern view, not force us to start with the view that is not useful to us.

I can certainly see that you're already used to using the Classic View while using the program as it has more options than the Modern View, jhummel5.

We understand how the new update has raised some concerns for you. However, QuickBooks updates the view for a better and more convenient experience to streamline your reporting process. Don't worry. We listen to customer feedback, and we want to make it up to you. I'd recommend giving our engineers direct feedback. They may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me demonstrate:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Hit Feedback.
  3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference:

Furthermore, you can visit his page to stay up to date on the latest software improvements and enhancements with QBO: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online. Additionally, QBO provides the option to export reports to Excel, giving you the ability to include data pertinent to your company's needs.
