Printing Checks QB Mac 2021

I just upgraded from Desktop Pro 2018 (Windows) to 2021 Mac.  In 2018, when I wrote a check and I would click the "to print later" box.  Then when I when to print checks it auto-populated the next check number to be used.  This doesn't work in 2021 Mac.  Even. though I clicked "print later", when I went to print the check, the check number was blank.  I got it to work, but it was a hassle compared to how it automatically happened before.  Any way to make this work like in 2018?

Printing Checks QB Mac 2021

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @zach88.

Let's perform a few troubleshooting steps to fix your check numbers so we can get you back in working order. To do so, you can use the Verify and Rebuild Data Utility Tool. Before we begin, you have to create a backup copy of your data to prevent accidental loss.

Once done, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Utilities.
  2. Click Verify Data, then click OK to close all windows. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.
  3. To rebuild your file, go back to the File menu.
  4. Choose Utilities.
  5. Select Rebuild Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  6. Once the rebuild is finished, click OK.

Printing Checks QB Mac 2021

Ok, thanks for those steps.  However, before I perform them, can you confirm that the check number is supposed to populate when printing checks?  Thanks,

Printing Checks QB Mac 2021

Let me share some insights regarding printing checks with check numbers via QuickBooks for Mac, zach88.

Yes, the check number will populate when printing the check. Also, we can enter the desired check number in the "First check number to print field. Here's how:

  1. On the check screen, click the Printer icon at the top menu bar.
  2. From print dialog window field called "First check number to print."  See the attached image below.  Enter the desired check number here.
  3. Hit Print. After that, QuickBooks will correctly auto-assign this number to the check and you will not need to manually correct it. Moving forward, creating a new check will show the correct number, and the printing count will be correct as well.

To learn more about creating and printing checks, see the Create, modify, and print checks article for more details.
