QB for Mac Desktop 2023 Upgrade Problems

I use Quickbooks on a desktop (Mac Mini) and a laptop (Macbook Pro 2019). They are both running Monterey. Last week Quickbooks prompted me to upgrade from 2022 to 2023 on my desktop, which I did. It worked as expected and I upgraded my company files with no problem. When I went to work from my laptop which was still using QB 2022, I expected an upgrade prompt but there wasn't one. I went to "Check for updates" in the menu and it said I had the latest version, which obviously wasn't true. Since I could not open the files that had been upgraded to 2023, I went and did a fresh download of 2023. Once installed, it still would not open my files from the other Mac and I kept getting an error message. I restarted multiple times and reinstalled multiple times. I spent hours chatting with support. Eventually they told me this was a known issue and suggested I spent more hours redoing the work I had done the day before on 2023 because the only file I could get to open with my laptop was a file from the 2022 version. I could not redo all that work so I decided to wait. When I was back on my desktop a few days later, it prompted me for an update and I assumed the issue was fixed. However, once again my laptop version says there are no updates available. I've re-installed again. So far I've put a good 10 hours into this issue simply because Intuit forced me to do an upgrade that doesn't seem to have been ready.

TL/DR

My desktop is running QB Mac Plus 2023 Version V22.0.2.R3.1 and is working. My laptop will only install QB Mac Plus 2023 Version V22.0.0 R1. It claims no updates are available. I've done multiple fresh installs and it will only install this version. I cannot open the company files I've been working on with R3 so this is a huge problem. What is going on and how do I fix this?

QB for Mac Desktop 2023 Upgrade Problems

Hello,

I double checked the license number and everything was correct. The time and date on my computer is correct. Unfortunately I could not use the Quickbooks Tool Hub as it's not designed for Macs.

If anyone else has this issue, I'll share what finally worked. After deleting the Quickbooks 2023 app, I had to go in to Application Support through the library on my Mac and delete not only the Quickbooks 2023 folder there (which I had already tried multiple times) but also the folder called "com.intuit.QuickBooks2023." I believe that something was in there from my original installation, before the fixes and recent updates were released, that was causing the issue. So after I deleted those additional folders and emptied my trash, I reinstalled 2023 again. Now it is working properly.

Thanks for helping me try to troubleshoot this.

QB for Mac Desktop 2023 Upgrade Problems

Hello, ADeutsch.

We don't want you to go through this, and I appreciate the effort you put into solving the problem. A release mismatch that occurred after the most recent update was installed is what's causing this issue.

Once the newest version is available, QuickBooks software should prompt you to update. It's strange that updates are available on your desktop computer but not from your laptop. Have you tried downloading the updates directly from our download website? If not, please follow these instructions to update to the most recent release.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page and click the standard setup link.
  2. Choose the correct CountryProduct, and Version.
  3. Press Search.
  4. Select Get the latest updates.
  5. When the download finishes, open the file to install the update. After the installation, restart your computer.

For your reference, you can review this article for more insights: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once done, you can restore your company file.

If you need anything else, please let us know. We're available to help you.

QB for Mac Desktop 2023 Upgrade Problems

Yes, I've tried this multiple times. Have tried from different browsers. And have tried uninstalling the older version completely first. I feel like there's something else I should uninstall that it's holding onto. This is the message I get on my laptop no matter what I do even though I know that Version R3 is available.

Download the 2023 version on the laptop using this link:

https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products

Check for Updates is looking for a newer version of 2022.  I'll talk to the team about ways we might make this multi machine situation easier.

Thanks for the response. I tried using that link and the same thing happens. It downloads R1 and tells me that R1 is the newest available version.

One thing I noticed is that when I initially downloaded 2023 it asked me for my license and product number. Now, even when I completely uninstall it first, it doesn't ask me for that. So it's pulling that info from somewhere (even if I use your link and am not signed into my account first). Would it help to deauthorize this computer or something first? I don't want to do anything that will make it worse.

Thanks for bringing this up in the QuickBooks Community page, @ADeutsch.

I appreciate you for sharing the troubleshooting steps you've made to address the issue.

Let's make sure that the license number you entered matches the product code you purchased. This way, you can easily install QuickBooks on your computer. You can read through this article to learn more: Fix errors when activating QuickBooks, or adding license and product numbers.

But if you still receive the same error, you can follow the steps below for other ways to obtain your license number:

  1. Sign in to camps.intuit.com.
  2. Under Products & Services, select QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Click Details.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about: Manage your QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions and services.

Lastly, here's an article you can read for ideas about how you can obtain the information about the product you purchased: What is CAMPs and how do I use it?

Keep me posted in the comments if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help.
