QB Pro Not working on Windows 11

Windows 10 is scheduled to lose support in October 2025. Everyone will be forced to upgrade to Windows 11. But Windows 11 will not work with QB Pro versions older than 2021. I still use QB Pro v. 2019 and it works great. I have a small number of clients and I dont want to buy Intuit's new expensive subscription based software. To make matters worse Intuit isnt even going to sell QB Pro after July 2024. New users will be forced to buy the Enterprise edition or use QB online.

Should I keep QB Pro V. 2019 going on an old desktop using Windows 10 and buy a new computer with Windows 11 for banking and everything else? Does anyone have any suggestions?

You will still be able to run QBD 2019 on Win 10 after October 2025. I believe it will be the same as running QB Desktop 2015 on Win 8 on some of our clients.

Every penny is important when running a business, SteveB100. I want to share some important information with you regarding QuickBooks Desktop and its compatibility with Windows 11.

You're correct that Windows 11 is not compatible with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2021 and older versions. QuickBooks no longer offers one-time purchase products; instead, users must sign up for a yearly subscription plan, regardless of the product type, in order to continue using the program and its features.

Intuit has announced that after July 31, 2024, it will no longer sell new subscriptions to U.S. subscribers for the following products:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

However, this change does not affect existing subscribers, who can continue to renew their subscriptions after July 31, 2024.

For more details, please visit the following page: QuickBooks Desktop to stop selling to new U.S. subscribers.

Regarding your other concern, you can access your QuickBooks Desktop 2019 using your Windows 10, but all online services will be disconnected.

It's important to note that discontinued versions will not receive the latest critical security patches and updates. You will also not have access to live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop.

For more details on service discontinuation policy, you can refer to this article:  QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy

Nevertheless, I suggest contacting our support team or sales department for further details regarding the subscription or alternative solutions more suitable for your business.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter "Subscription" in the field, then choose a way to connect with us.

Furthermore, here's an article to check if your desktop device is compatible with QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024: System Requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

I've also included a detailed guide about upgrading that may help you in the future:  Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.

That is true. I can keep running QB Pro V. 2019 on windows 10, but will Windows 10 be safe to use for banking, etc after it no longer receives security updates? I dont feel comfortable doing banking on windows 10 if doesnt have security updates. I'm trying to find a way to avoid having two different computers, one with windows 10 for QuickBooks and one with Windows 11 for everything else.

@SteveB100

You can use a Mac and Parallels to run your old QBD 2019 on Win 10.

If you are worried about banking and other online secure transactions, you should be on newer versions of QB PRO anyway to saty secure and compatible with the banks and the tax authorities.

Has no one thought of running QB Pro19 in a virtual machine such as the free hypervisor that is in Windows 11 Pro?   or even using Virtual Box?    That's the simplest way once your tech guy sets it up for you.

It is very interesting to hear that you are able to run QB Pro 2009 on a Windows 11 computer. I guess this means that I could run my QB Pro 2019 with windows 11. This is the first I have heard of this. Microsoft says it wont work and all the online resources say it wont work. Were you able to do this without any modification? I guess we will hear more about this solution as we get closer to the deadline for the phasing out of windows 10. There are a lot of people who wont upgrade to Windows 11 because they are using older versions of QB and are afraid it wont work !

No modifications. Make sure you are using Windows 10/11 Home to run old QB version. You can still buy Windows 10 Home for less than $100 and be eligible to upgrade to Win 11 Home for free. If you choose to stick with Win Pro and encounter errors after upgrading, consider using the trial version of QB Desktop 2022 as a workaround.
