QB Pro requires an Intuit Account

I am strongly against this mandatory sign-in. I have seen numerous posts from Intuit staff which suggest Intuit is sending information from our company file to its servers and storing it. This is unacceptable; Intuit has no business storing our company's financial information.

I can only amplify all of the frustration already expressed in this thread. If you wish to make sure that QuickBooks never talks to the Internet ever again, you will need to configure an Outbound Rule in Windows Firewall. It's complicated, but I don't know of any other solution. Attached are screen captures of the Windows Defender Firewall settings that will allow QuickBooks to talk to any servers on your local network, but prohibit it from talking to the Internet.

Sorry if I missed it, but did Intuit answer this part - I don't want my company file uploaded to ANYWHERE but our internal servers in my own building - NOT to intuit, NOT to a cloud:

especially where it concerns Intuit since the email provides no information on whether or not any of the data in our company file will be exfiltrated. Is there any documentation on the safety of our data?

I recognize how important the security of your data, @RSFDenise.

I've got some inputs regarding data security and QuickBooks log in.

QuickBooks Desktop uses a password as an additional layer of security. This way, only authorized users can access your account. Recently, QuickBooks implemented the one Intuit log in to manage your account all in one place effectively.

For more information, please head to this link: Manage your Intuit Account Online.

Also, yes, there's a documentation about it to ensure we keep your data safe. Please go to this link for additional insights: Why Intuit account for QuickBooks Desktop?

Lastly, you can always manage, view or update your Intuit account anytime. This helps you handle your information better.

You're always welcome to comment back below if you need more account management tips. I'll be here to give a guide or two always.

Regarding the "we've started our Desktop One Intuit Identity login on File Creation. This is for users who indicated that they are the Admin/Primary for the file."  comment - as an accountant/pro-advisor who consistently sets up company files for clients to use, this new requirement is a major hinderance to this part of my job. If I don't say I am the Admin/Primary for the file then I cannot create the company file, if I do say I am the Admin/Primary for the file then my Intuit sign-in is required and will be attached to the file which then poses the problem of me NOT being the Admin/Primary once I hand the file off to the client.  I understand the need for the Intuit accounts and having them in place for certain areas of the program that go online and I understand that some of these security requirements are being required by the IRS.  What I don't understand is why the use of usernames and passwords that have been in place for years now to lock certain areas (like payroll direct deposit and credit card information access) has now evolved to being a requirement to have an intuit.com account attached in order to create and use a company and why we as users cannot choose to not connect the overall program.  What happens when the Admin/Primary user is on vacation and the Intuit account sign-in is required? Someone else can put that information in but then a verification code will be generated - and guess where that code is going? To that person on vacation with no cell phone or internet access, that's who.  So now the Quickbooks file cannot be accessed - that can cause major problems.

Dear QuickBooks support.

I have tried three different times to respond to prompt to set up intuit account (Although I see no point in this. I'm the only user and I don't use online payroll or banking in connection with my quickbooks account. It is strictly a record keeping mechanism for me.)

However, if I must do it, I need help. I've gotten to the stage of trying to set up intuit account and the system never allows me to complete the process. I click create account and nothing happens.

Thank you,

Janet Todd

I've got your back to help you set up an Intuit account within the program, @janet todd.

We can create your Intuit account outside QuickBooks. This helps provides a platform to control users’ access to all your Intuit-connected services without granting access to the QuickBooks Company file.

May I ask if you receive an error message when trying to set up an account? I appreciate any extra information you can give and it will help us isolate the issue and provide the best solution. Also, make sure that your program is updated to the latest release

To create an account, here's how:

  1. Go to the Intuit accounts page.
  2. Click the Create an account link at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Enter your email address, phone number, and add your password.
  4. Select Create Account, once completed.

Once you have created your account, go back to your QuickBooks program and log into your company file with this information. You can refer to this article if you already have an account and need to change the password

In addition, here's an article you can read through to learn more about the use of Intuit account and how you can manage this: Intuit account – Why now for QuickBooks Desktop?

Please let me know how this goes and if you need any additional assistance about creating an account. I'll be happy to lend a hand. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

I agree with you 100%. QuickBooks customer service is the worst. Years ago you could actually talk with a live person that was educated. Now you can hardly get a human and if by some miracle you do get a person (after an hour or so hold time if not more), they aren't knowledgeable and your entire day is shot. Companies thinking of getting QuickBooks beware.

I see Intuit team members repeat over and over all the arguments as to why we must swallow this.

Typical big company arrogance where they think they know what is best for you.

Perusing these forums reveals that Intuit is very good at regurgitating feel good fragments like "we care" "this is not the experience we want you to have", but in the end there is a seemingly endless stream of customers upset and angry, about all the same things people were upset about years ago. Nothing changes.

pissedoffconsumer.com has a long list of complaints about Intuit, with the most worrisome complaint being Intuit holding you and/or your funds hostage.

I was held hostage by Intuit a few months ago by an issue created by Intuit themselves which they expected me to solve for them. Epic time wasting experience. Cancelled the payroll service with Intuit, what a relief that was.

We have no desire to try other Intuit products as they entangle us further. In fact we are looking hard at alternatives for when the moment comes when Intuit disables functionality because they feel we should upgrade. To the online version no less!

That won't happen.

Some one please explain this supposed security, how is copying my data off my pc which has its file system encrypted to protect my data making me more secure, by having copies of my company file on line, if I wanted to use quickbooks on line I would have bought that, I want full control and security of my data, so I will be looking for an alternative to transport my files into and dump quickbooks.

It's 2022 - please either get rid of this "feature" entirely or (if you really have other users who have indicated they love it ... (have you??) then make it optional. Great companies listen to their customers...

Hi @Adrian_A Could you rather put an inordinate amount of pressure on the dev team, instead of just mentioning it, please. It has been 2 years since a bunch of your customers requested not to be forced into this...

(I have sent feedback via the feedback page as well)
