QBDT Enterprise 2023 - Errors after latest update

Thank you, but we would all still like Quickbooks to fix whatever caused this issue in a future update.

How could this have been marked as "Solved", rolling back the patch isn't a real solution. I assume that QB would only allow a user to defer the update 3-4 times before forcing it, as this has become the new normal for QB.

We need a patch to solve this issue that is affecting so many users. This patch literally renders QB unusable on the server and only workstations operating in Windows on the network can open the file and have full functionality without the COM Error crashing it.

In our case, anytime QB needs to access the internet in connection with a function, this crash occurs, such as Receive Payment, Help, etc.

Having the exact same issue. Was on the phone with Intuit support and was getting the run around telling me it was my problem and not theirs. I requested to be bumped up to either level 2 or level 3 support and was told that they could not do it. Hopefully Intuit actually does something about this soon.

QBDT Enterprise 2023 - Errors after latest update

I recognize the urgency of getting the best resolution to fix the COM Errors you received after updating QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), Wrangler. Finding the best solution for the issue is essential and the top priority. I'm here to provide workarounds to help you access your company file and other functionalities without receiving errors.

Since rolling back the patch didn't resolve this prompt, you can check the compatibility mode of your servers. The update could be incompatible with the Windows you're using. You could also visit the System Requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 article as a reference for more helpful info about desktop compatibilities.

I'll show you the steps on how to review the software properties:

  1. Right-click QuickBooks on your desktop and select Properties.
  2. On the Compatibility tab, mark the Run this program in compatibility mode for: in the Compatibility mode.
  3. Choose a Window in the dropdown.
  4. In the Settings section, tick the Run this program as an administrator checkbox.
  5.  Hit Apply, then OK.

You may follow other strategies to fix it if the procedure above doesn't work. However, if the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Desktop Support for further guidance. They have the necessary tools to assess your account securely and investigate its cause.

In the event of primary hardware or software failures or errors, making backups of your company file or exporting list and transactions is recommended to secure and recover these data.

The information provided should assist you in resolving COM errors crashing your QuickBooks Desktop. When you have other questions or queries, comment back, and I'm here determined to lend a hand.

Hi QuickBooks Support and raven17,

This is good thinking raven17, thank you for sharing. My concern is how the company file in a multi-user environment will react to being opened and written to by an earlier version after being written to by a later version?

For example, when we forget to update a workstation in the network, upon logging in to the company file, a pop-up will warn the user, that other users have a more up to date version.

QBDT Enterprise 2023 - Errors after latest update

Thanks for posting back in this thread to clarify the situation, Wrangler.

Once a Host computer and file are updated to the earlier version, the workstation will always prompt a message to update it to the latest version. It's not advisable to open that company file in a multi-user environment with different year versions of QuickBooks. This can lead to compatibility issues and data corruption. It's recommended to have all users on the same software version to prevent any potential issues.

To remove the warning prompt in the workstation, you need to update/install it to the latest version of QuickBooks. If you can see a pop-up window to install the latest version, click the install button and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed. If not, let's do the manual update.

Here's how:

  1. Open this link: Download QuickBooks Desktop ,click the Download &updates page hyperlink.
  2. Select the country, product, and version you installed on the server.
  3. Click Search and select the Download button.
  4. Wait for the download to finish, click Open, and then Next.
  5. Select Accept & continue, and enter your License number and Product number. If you don't have this information, open your QuickBooks on the server, click the Help menu, and select About Intuit QuickBooks.
  6. Choose Express, click Next to proceed, then Install.
  7. Once done, click Open QuickBooks (Please restart the computer if it prompts).

Additionally, ensure to open the correct host file by clicking Open and restore existing company files, select Open a company file, then Next. Browse the location of the company file. Select the company file (with file extension .qbw) from the list and tick the small box to access it in multi-user mode, then select Open  If prompted, enter your username and password.

Feel free to check these articles to guide you further in case you encounter an error message when accessing your company file.

Let us know if you need further help regarding multi-user issues. We're always here to provide help. Take care

Having that issue right now and File Doctor is not finding any issues to fix it. I am still waiting for support to get back to me again but at this moment with what we spend yearly for multiple licenses and the lack of a solution I am starting to look at alternatives because all we are getting are canned responses but no real support on the issue.

QBDT Enterprise 2023 - Errors after latest update

I don't think that you are really getting this, IF we install the latest updates of QuickBooks, then QuickBooks is not fully usable and it crashes with com errors. The latest update broke QuickBooks for people using Windows Server 2012 R2 which is on the supported list for QuickBooks Enterprise 23.

But if we reinstall QuickBooks and do not allow it to update to the latest QuickBooks version then the company file is broken and cannot be opened.

What is it going to take to have a new patch forced out to correct these issues?

BTW with the new patch for QuickBooks Enterprise 23, the QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us is broken also. I believe this was mentioned earlier in the posts on this subject. Anyway I got it to work with the communities help:

Uninstall your current version of QuickBooks Enterprise 23

Install the QuickBooks Enterprise 23 V11 from the previous link

Do no download any updates

Try to open the company file, in my case it refused to open so used the QuickBooks ToolHub and I tried File Doctor but that didn't work so I tried File Doctor again but this time I clicked on the Advanced Options and clicked on both the Force fix Data sync error and Force fix 6130 error

This allowed me to finally open the company files

Then I followed the instructions that ARamirez81 provided for blocking updates with one exception on Method 2, the Locate the update folder listed the folder that would be where the updates would be downloaded to but it did not exist, so I created a new folder with the name of the download location and edited the permissions of the folder to match the post, you might have to go into advance permissions also and disable inheritance to apply the fix to any hidden users.

Check over QuickBooks, now it will come up with a pop up stating that your company file was in use by a newer version and wants to know if you want to update. Click on No for now and lets hope that a fix will be found for this soon so that we can reverse this problem and keep current with updates.

Hi there, wm88ste. I'll provide more details about this and offer a workaround so you can continue what you've worked on.

The available version on our Downloads & Updates website is the latest release (R12). To get the previous release (R11), you can search or explore online outside of QuickBooks.

In addition, you can always refer to these helpful resources for managing your QuickBooks Desktop and company files:

The following information will help you stay updated and well-informed. Suggesting you to search online for the previous release will ensure you can achieve your goal.

One of your support reps provided the previous installer for Enterprise 23 to someone already, why can't the same be done for what wm88ste is asking for?

What happens when your advice is taken and a customer "explores sources outside of QuickBooks to get the previous release (R11)" and their computer gets ransomware on it and all their Quickbooks data is compromised. That doesn't sound like great customer service.

Agree...this is unacceptable from Intuit's part.  After paying 4k+ a year, all we get is that it might be our computers.  They need to admit that they are taking the support out of Windows Server 2012.  They just updated the requirements for enterprise and Windows Server 2012 is not a supported version.

At least they could have said something before forcing us and blocking our business from processing payments and anything web related.

Just want to chime in and say this is the same problem I am having with QB Desktop Pro 2023 - after last updates does not work on my server. In addition, all my company files have become corrupted since the latest update and nobody at Quickbooks seems to know what's going on or how to fix any of it. Quickbooks, please help!!!! Having issues regarding accessing your company file will surely delay your working progress, @d510. I'm here to share some troubleshooting steps to help fix your file.

To start, we can repair your company file by utilizing the Rebuild Data tool. This fixes minor data issues. Here's how:

  1. Hover over to the Utilities option by going to the File menu and selecting Rebuild Data.
  2. Select OK to back up your company file. The rebuild will take place after saving the backup.
  3. When the tool is finished, click OK again. Perform this three times.
  4. After that, navigate to the File menu, hover over Utilities, and click Verify Data. Let the system check your file for further data issues.

For reference, check this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

However, if the process does fix your data, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix your company file.

If the issue persists, I highly recommend reaching out to our Technical support team to further investigate the root cause of the problem.

If you have other concerns regarding accessing your program, just leave a comment below. I'm just around the corner to provide prompt assistance. Have a good one.

I was just wondering since everyone here is having the same issues since the last patch is QuickBooks actively looking into this and developing a patch and how would we be notified of this patch because some of us to get the product working again are rolling back to a previous version and blocking updates from coming in so we can continue working with the software.

QuickBooks does realize that this issue is costing businesses time and money and being that this is a on going problem that we are losing faith in your product since a fix has not been found as of yet other than what we have pieced together among each other.

I seriously doubt it. A few posts up SiddhaFlowers discovered that they removed Server 2012 from the supported Windows versions. So R11 may be the last version that will ever work. I guess we either need to upgrade the OS, or move to a cloud hosted solution (which is expensive.)

"I suggest searching or exploring online outside of QuickBooks to get the previous release (R11)."

This is terrible advice, QuickBooks should be able to provide a safe way to download previous releases. Advising someone to go out and find it on the internet somewhere is not good!
