I have contacted Intuit support twice about this issue via telephone and they have not been able to resolve the problem. Maybe someone else is experiencing the same thing.
For about the past month, QBO is forcing me to use two factor authentication every time I log in. What was an easy process to log in to my QBO account has now become a tedious chore.
First, 2FA is turned OFF in my Intuit account and it has never been turned on by me. I have tried turning the setting explicitly on and back off again and nothing changes. I have also cleared all browsing history several times.
Here is what happens when I log in to QBO:
1) Prompted for user name (remembered by browser).
2) Asked to click a CAPTCHA check box EVERY TIME.
3) Prompted for password (remembered by browser).
4) Asked to perform 2FA via text or email EVERY TIME.
These same steps will have to be performed every single time I try to log in to QBO even if it is only an hour or two later.
In addition, every couple of days, I am prompted to confirm my bank connections with 2FA even after I have logged in.
This level of security is making day to day use of QBO unusable and annoying! And I did not ask for it to be implemented and need it to be removed.
I am using the Chrome web browser on macOS Big Sur, although I have also tested Safari with the same results. The only change is if I open an incognito window in which case there is no 2FA, just a simple log in and password (remembered by the browser).
Something is causing intuit to flag my machine, IP, I don't know what, as a high risk. I have been using the same machine for 5 years with QBO without these problems.
Thanks in advance if you can offer any advice or assistance.
Andrew
Solved! Go to Solution.
For those experiencing this -- Please check if you have the browser extension uBlock Origin enabled. If so, temporarily disable it. If that stops the MFA from looping, then that means you will need to unblock the associated QB Online blocked script inside of uBlock Origin.
If you do not wish to disable uBlock Origin, you can extend the duration of time before QB Online times you out to be 3 hours by going to the Gear Icon → Account & Settings → Advanced → Scroll down to Other preferences → Adjust Sign me out if inactive for to be 3 hours instead of the defaulted 1 hour. This won't resolve the issue, but it will decrease the number of instances you are asked to do MFA.
Asking your ISP to switch you to a static IP may help as well.
Hello andrew116!
I know the feeling when you are asked for a code and CAPTCHA every time you log in. Allow me to join this thread so I can help you in fixing this.
Please note that QuickBooks Online has two security features in addition to the password. Those are multi-factor authentication (MFA) or two-step verification. Unlike MFA, you'll be asked for a code every time you log in if the two-step verification is turned on. Also, we can't turn off the MFA so you'll still be asked for a code even if the two-step verification is turned off. You can check the difference and how to manage these security features in this article: Verify your QuickBooks Online account with multi-factor authentication or two-step verification.
Also, clearing the browser's cookies and cache can help fix any issues in QuickBooks Online. However, it can trigger the MFA. This is because cookies are files that save information about your browsing session. For example, this file saves the info when you check the "Remember my user ID" box when logging in, and clearing them means you'll need a fresh start.
Another thing that can trigger MFA aside from clearing the browser's cookies and the cache is when you use a new browser or new device.
If this behavior persists, I suggest you reach out to our Support Team again. They can create a ticket about this for investigation.
With regard to the bank, please note that they have their own security settings. We need to complete it since they require it unless they offer an option to disable it. You can reach out to your bank to check.
For the IP address, I suggest you seek help from your IT personnel. It could be because of your anti-virus program. An IT person can further check and fix it.
Lastly, I added this link if you can't sign in to QuickBooks Online: Get help if you can't sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.

On my third attempt to contact Intuit tech support about this they admitted there was an issue with other accounts reporting the same problem and opened a support ticket.

Mary,
You are a genius! Thank you! I do use uBlock Origin, and have for years. It had never been a problem until this issue. If I disable it for the Intuit website, I am just prompted for the stored user name and password. No captcha, no text message.
Thank you so very much!
