The problem stated after I installed the recent QB update...................
same..
This is very frustrating!!!
Hi there, odjud.
Let me add some troubleshooting steps to resolve the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) crashing issue.
We can do manual reset update and make sure critical fixes is included.
Like this:
Once the update is done, you'll need to restart QuickBooks to fully install the updates. I've added this article for more details about the latest release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.
If the issue still persists, I recommend contacting our Support Team to help you check fix this unusual behavior. They have the right tools to conduct further investigation in a secure environment.
Let me know how this goes or if you have other concerns about QBDT. I'll be here to help. Take care!
Archie B,
Just an FYI, the manual R5 update is what broke my QuickBooks Enterprise 2022 installation. I have a single server where I can't install R5 regardless of how I try to install it. I've traced the issue to a bad/malformed digital code-signing certificate attached to the QB installers (the full installer as well as the manually downloaded update installer). I'm currently running QBDT R3 on that server while I build a new one for testing. It seems to be an isolated issue, but for anyone having issues where all you get is the QuickBooks splash screen, then nothing, it is worth investigating as the root cause in your environment.
The problems started after I downloaded the most recent update..
Unless QB made a new update since Monday, this will only waist more of my time.
I followed the instructions to perform manual reset update and mark all the options (included critical fixes) and performed “Get Updates”.
Based upon another thread, I also downloaded the QuickBooks Tool Hub and ran the Quick Fix my Program utility.
The above changes were applied to the QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 Release R5P (64-bit). Once applied, the Product number 141-902 with R5_45 changed to 141-902 with R5_50.
After the changes, QuickBooks will only load one of my two company files. One of the company files goes through the loading, then crashes. The other company file loads without crashing. Then, I can perform a few transactions (entered one payment, download 3 credit card transaction, then applied 2 of the 3 transactions, edited the names of a few Fixed Asset Account, then QB crashed with a page entitled “QuickBooks – Unrecoverable Error” with text “We apologize for the inconvenience. Please help the QuickBooks team eliminate this issue by providing us with the following information.
“I was trying to do: (steps you took):” Edit the name of a Fixed Asset account from the accounts list.
Upon reloading the company file, QB read the file populating the screen, then crashed.
I then opened the company file a second time and was able to edit a bank account transaction and save it as replacement memorized transaction.
Then, edited a few Fixed Asset account names and descriptions and saved successfully.
Then, created new Fixed Asset account and made it Subaccount of “Equipment” but it did not display it under “Equipment” in the Chart of Accounts. Instead, it displayed it under “Dividend Income”. When I got out of the Chart of Accounts and back into the Chart of Accounts, the new Fixed Asset account displayed correctly under the “Equipment” subaccount instead of the “Dividend Income” account.
I then went back to enter my third credit card transaction to the new Fixed Asset Account and found the 2 credit card transactions that I entered prior to an earlier crash in the list of downloaded credit card transactions as well as in the register. Typically, once a transaction is added to the register, the downloaded transaction is removed from the list of downloaded transactions but QB must not have cleared those before it crashed.
In summary, after the applied changes to QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 Release R5P (64-bit), the product is still very unstable and crashes on a regular basis. Additionally, when QB crashes, it leaves certain data in unstable incomplete manner, like the case of the old credit card downloaded transactions still appearing in the downloaded transactions list. I cannot recall that QuickBooks 2019 product ever crashed. It looks like another solution is needed. In the banking world, we would call this a severity 1 issue since many customers like myself cannot open and perform normal activities within QB without regular crashes. Corruption of data in my company files is also a concern due to the instability of the product.
Hello, James.
I appreciate putting as much detail as you can regarding the R5 update crashing issue. We definitely want to fix this and avoid data damage as much as possible.
Aside from the Tool Hub, there's one more solution we can do to fix the crash issues.
We can do a clean uninstall and reinstall solution to fix the crashing issue. Those crash instances are likely caused by damaged components in the program.
To do a clean uninstall:
After uninstalling, reinstall as you would normally.
A reference about the clean install step can be found here (solution #2 is also found here): Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.
However if you're still experiencing frequent crashes, then we'll want to have this checked by our support. They can use their tools to investigate what's causing the crashes, and if needed, report the issue to our engineers.
Here's how to contact them:
If you're unable to open the Help menu within the program, we can use this page to reach them: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/help/en-us/contact-us?product=QuickBooks%20Desktop.
After getting this issue checked and fixed, we can start performing regular tasks in QuickBooks. If you'd like to reconcile your books after managing those bank records, we can take a look at this article if you need a guide: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
You're more than welcome again to post your questions regarding QuickBooks Desktop. If you have concerns about managing your entries or your accounts, let me know and I'll gladly help you out.
I have two companies. One seems to stay open but the second crashes. After opening the file it just shuts down. I can spend countless hours on this Sunday evening and go through all of the various troubleshooting steps in this thread but I'm wondering if because it is my second company if that is a clue to something specific. I updated several weeks ago to Desktop Pro Plus 2022 and everything has worked until today. My version is R5-45 (I have it set to automatically update but it didn't offer to update to R5-50).
I did as you recommended and uninstalled QuickBooks Desk 2022, then re-installed it and applied all the updates to bring it to Desktop Pro Plus 2022 R5P (64-bit), Product # 141-902 R5_50. After re-booting, I started it with one of my company files and QB loaded the company file, then crashed. When I open the other company file, it loads and allows me to do a few things. If I then keep QB running and switch to the other company file, it loads and allows me to pick a few reports. Not thrilled that it still crashes so hoping you all are working on a patch for this problem.
I want to make sure you're taken care of, @Wideopenspaces.
Thank you for sharing your experience in this thread, and I know how much you want to resolve the company file that is crashing. Worry no more, I'll be there to assist you to sort this out.
The product release's old version can also affect the system functionalities to read the second company file data. To begin with, may I know if you have already tried all the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleagues from this thread, like using the file doctor since the first company file data ran successfully?
On the other hand, you mentioned that your version didn't offer an update to Releases 50(R5) when you view your current system release R5-45. If you're unable to get this update, you can download the latest release from our QuickBooks official website: QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus. From there, you can click the Get the latest updates link to have the qbwebpatch.exe.
Once downloaded, you can open the executable file and allow it to patch QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022. This new update includes fixes to the bugs from the earlier release versions.
I'll be happy to hear some answers to my question above, and if you have other concerns, please let us know. We can win this together. Stay safe and well.
Hi @jamesbberg.
I would also get disappointed when the product I used to work well suddenly gets issues like system crashes. I want this to be taken care of with support that can handle account issues internally.
Since you're still experiencing this hurdle, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support team. They have tools to pull up your account in a secure environment. This way, they can check and investigate this further. You can follow the steps shared by @jamespaul on how to reach our agents through chat or callback. If you're unable to open the Help menu within the program, we can use this site to contact them: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/help/en-us/contact-us?product=QuickBooks%20Desktop.
Please let us know how it goes and if you have other concerns with updating or reverting release versions in QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022. We're always here to help you out. Take good care always.
My recent posts have been for QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 R5P (64-bit), Product # 141-902 R5_50. I believe this is the latest release but if not let me know.
And yes, I have completed the Quick Fix my Program utility from the QuickBooks Tool Hub, if that is what you mean by the "file doctor".
Add me to the list of people having this same problem. I upgraded at the end of May and every time I log in, QB crashes. I have to login again and then, if I'm fast enough to start a task it will stay up and running. If I don't start a task right away, it will close out.
Tried this option 3 times still having major issues. There is also a lot of lagging to sign in that didn't happen with 2019. It's taking about a minute in a half to open a single company.
What are my next steps to avoid loosing any more labor time and imputed data?
My quickbooks 2022 keeps crashing when I open it...

I also upgraded at the end of May from DT 2019 to DT 2022. If I open a task in time and keep working on something, the program stays up. However, if I tab out, the program crashes. Very frustrating! I will try some of the steps outlined in this post, which I hope work, because this is very disruptive to my workday.
Please add me to the list of users experiencing this problem - QB Desktop 2022 crashing repeatedly and nothing seems to help fix it - yet. I would like to know the solution once it is determined. Thank you!
Please notify me once a solution to this problem is resolved - inconvenient to have QB crashing multiple times an day/several times an hour! Thanks
We went from 2019 to 2022 a few months ago with no problems at all.
However, after the latest update from QuckBooks a few weeks ago, the system just shuts down. So it has to be with the latest update that they sent out for the 2022 version.
We currently use 2022 QuickBooks Premier.
If you are using Norton Anti-Virus software and have turned on "Secure VPN", this will cause Quickbooks to crash. The fix is to turn off "Secure VPN" and the same feature in any other anti-virus software must be turned off to avoid the crash. To define crash, the software shuts down repeatedly.
This fix is applicable for all 2019-2022 versions of Quickbooks.
M Carlisle, CPA
Quickbooks user 15+ years.
Was forced to upgrade from Desktop 2019 to Desktop 2022. It crashes pretty much every time we open it. It just started taking down my Chrome when I open it now. Sometimes it will crash if you are in the middle of writing a check or just opening a section of Qb's. Quite frustrating.
Let's get this sorted out so you can get back to working order, TSGi.
To get this resolved, let's run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This will run a quick repair on your program. Here's how:
You can read this article for more troubleshooting steps to help fix this issue: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working.
If the issue persists, I'd recommend you contact our Customer Care team. They can help check to identify what's causing this to happen and help you fix this issue. They can also submit a request to investigate why QuickBooks is crashing.
