"Can somebody at Intuit do something other than cut and paste the canned response..."
You are asking for too much. They are GREAT in taking our money, but when it comes to fix problems - good luck.
I'm moving my clients to AccountingPower. It's not the most sophisticated, but it gets the job done and it is a WHOLE lot less expensive than the astronomical rates Intuit is charging for a piece of software that doesn't work.
Thank you, I will check it out.
I am also checking AccountEdge.
Re: Can somebody at Intuit do something other than cut and paste the canned response of "First, please know that this isn't the kind of experience...." That is a cop-out.
I believe the answer to that is no, they can't stop pasting canned responses: Based on the uniformity of those tiresome, oddly formal, and socially out-of-context responses, the reps are using a shared resource of canned responses, written by someone from another culture with English as their second language. And, since they all do it without fail, I suspect they're required to do so by management.
And it's worse than a cop-out. It's a lie: Intuit support is exactly the way Intuit wants it to be. If Intuit wanted it to be different, it would be different.
Intuit support used to be different. They used to hire college graduates to answer the phones, many with accounting degrees, in California. That's the way they wanted it then. And then they decided they didn't want it that way.
And many of you here have experienced how they want it now. What you've experienced is exactly what Intuit wants. (And don't think QB Online support is any better. It's not.)
Couldn't agree with you more. I remember the good old days when Intuit valued their customer.
Can anybody honestly remember when was the last time you tried to contact their (paid) phone support and wasn't greeted by someone from a call center in Asia?

I couldn't agree with you more!
I wish I had more programming experience. It's a ripe time for someone to step up and help out small businesses with affordable accounting software. I've been using QB along with their merchant account for about 13 years and have unbelievable grandfathered merchant rates that have been holding me back from switching to something else. But with the large upfront cost going from every three years to yearly I just can't justify all the hassles anymore.
I had read somewhere that part of the reason they were increasing their costs was so they could bring their customer support back to the US...I'd be willing to stick around if that were true but it's all lies, lies, and more lies. I am on the hunt for a good alternative, if anyone has suggestions please post them, and if I come across anything I will post them as well.
I am currently having this issue. Several times a week. I login and then it crashes. I am the only user. I use QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 on one computer with the files on the computer. I have tried file doctor Quick Fix, but this issue seems to happen almost every day. I eventually get it up and running.
Exactly the same here.
I am also having this issue. When starting quickbooks, it crashes and shuts the program down. Sometimes it takes 3 tries of reopening for it to stay open allowing me to conduct my business within it.
so here is the latest reply from tech support
When you made the calls to support did anyone check your file size? You may have outgrown your version of QuickBooks. I can walk you through that if you would like. If your file size is over 250,000K you’ll start experiencing quirky things happening.
To determine the file size, age, and number of fragments, open a company file and hit F2 to open the Product Information window – you’ll find them here:
I also have been experiencing this for months. It usually happens when I open QB for the first time each day. I can log in fine, but before I can access any data POOF the whole application just disappears off my screen, no error messages or warnings whatsoever. Last week it happened 3 consecutive times, then the 4th login I was able to work.
Is there a resolution to this problem?
No, there is no resolution yet. Mine does the same thing. I have had several calls with QBs and nothing fixed.
I Have the problem with QB with Release 5- I found out that if I Remove the program , reinstall or go back to an earlier release it will work ,but then QB Force you to install again the R5 and they removed the option of DO NOT Install automatic updates.
A way around which has helped is this thread I found n Reddit - Right Now after turn of the home page is has not crashed since the forced R5 Install.
The temporary work around we have implemented is (courtesy BigRedConsulting in that thread):
- To open your company file and stop the Home page from loading, hold down the Alt key while the company is opening.
- To stop the Home page from loading in the future, change your preference from the QuickBooks menu at Edit | Preferences | Desktop View | My Preferences. Deselect the ineptly named "Show home page when opening a company file" option, which does not apply to all company files as suggested, but only to the current file.
Same here - 3 consecutive times and finally worked on the 4th try. I rebooted computer during the process as well to see if that would help. Today it is fine (so far). Very strange and frustrating problem that none of the suggested solutions has completely resolved.
File size can't be it. Mine is just over 107200K
open ticket with support and then if you want i can send ticket to engineering and they can help you

I'm running Quickbooks Pro 2020 and having that problem

I understand how important it is for you to be able to use QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) smoothly. You can complete your tasks right away, which also saves your business time.
Let's use the Quick Fix my Program utility to repair the desktop program. I'm here to make sure you can do it in just a few clicks.
Here's how to lodge it:

I've done the Quickbooks File Doctor probably 100 times and it never fixes it.
Sounds like a plan I can look into next time it happens. Thank you.
Thank you. I'm pretty sure I tried all that. I had multiple shut downs last week. I'll wait until the problem happens again to further pursue the solution. By the way, the version of the Tool Hub I downloaded a week ago is 1.5.0.0.
They released QBD 2023 yesterday for accountants. Time to monitor the situation for the next 2 weeks until they release the general version on September 20th.
Unfortunately nothing that completely resolves it. Disable the home page, run the QB tool hub several times, etc. For now that's all that you can do. It been an ongoing problem for several months now. You will spend several hours on the phone with tech support, which resolves nothing either. I have found under the Help button >Send Feedback online> Bug report. Everytime mine crashes i send the report. They can see how many times you have had to restart the program.
