Quickbook's fee to repair corrupted file

A couple of months ago, I transferred files to a new computer. My Quickbooks wouldn't work. Called support and they told me my files were corrupted because they were transferred without appropriate extensions. They charged me $1500 to repair corrupted files.

I guess I was very naive because I just read about all the self-help tools to repair corrupted files. I feel I was ripped off. The support person never told me about these tools.

What do you think I should do?

Quickbook's fee to repair corrupted file

Hello,

This doesn't sound like Intuit.  Do you have any emailed or chat transcripts of who you interacted with?  Any specific email you sent the file to?  Where EXACTLY did you get the phone number you called?  There are people out there pretending to be QuickBooks support and running scams.  You may have even seen their posts on the board saying "Call quickbooks support no wait" with an 800 number in strange format.

If you WERE taken advantage of by one of these other people or companies, you can contact your bank or credit card company and see if you can dispute the charge.

You're exactly right. This was a bogus company after I checked it out. I've disputed the charge with my credit card company

Glad I was able to help.  I hope it all works out and your CC company gets you that money back.

I was just told by qb sr tech that the files are 54% corrupts and the charges to restore is 1400.00 is this legit.  This seems very high and illegal

Hi there, @anbro50.

I appreciate you for joining and sharing your experience with us.

In QuickBooks Desktop, we offer Care Plans in which you can subscribe for technical support to help you fix issues such as data damage. However, the amount should not reach $1400. For detailed information about the plan types, benefits, and price, you can refer to the following article: Care Plans for QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Mac.

At Intuit, were working harder in combating against suspected fraud, security problem and suspicious email. Please visit our Online Security Center for more information about protecting your information and what you can do moving forward. You can also report the website or phone number directly to our Security Team so they can take a look at this.

Lastly, if you need assistance from our support, please ensure to contact our Technical Support through our official contact channels. This is to make sure that the person you're talking to is a legit Intuit support.

We only call our customers if there’s a prior arrangement between the representatives or you sign up to our call back process. I'm adding the link I recommend below for your reference: Contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team.

Meanwhile, please know that the Community is always available and you're more than welcome to post your questions here.

Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of additional assistance. Have a good day.

Quickbook's fee to repair corrupted file

The same thing happened to me this week. I, too, called a support number from a google search. I knew it was scammy when they started talking corrupt files and 3500 plans to fix the problem. It’s unfortunate intuit doesn’t have a clear way to contact support. I ended up contacting sales who directed me to a support number. 888-537-7794. They are aware of the scams, but when things go wrong, we shouldn’t have to dig (or resort to calling sales) to figure out how to get someone on the phone. I’ll bet people have been taken for thousands of dollars because of the lack of clear communication and phone numbers for QB support.

Let me provide some information about our care plan, @LisaSCS.

A care plan gives you unlimited access to our Customer Support. They can help you learn the basics and on how to customize your QuickBooks account.

As mentioned by my colleague, data damage can be fixed by our technical support. However, the amount should not reach to $3500.

A one-time support plan only cost $59.95. Annual support will only cost $299.95. To know more about this, check this article: Care Plans for QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Mac.

To route you to the right support, you can arrange a callback to talk to them. Here's the contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team article for more information.

I'm always here if you need help with your account. Have a great rest of the day!

OMG I think I just got ripped off for $2160.59 for support.  The person said my files were 82% corrupted.

Is this one of your help numbers: 1-80-912-8858?

Last July I got set up with online backups through them  which is through QuickBooks and who I believed was the support team for QuickBooks.  Am I wrong?

I don't know what I am going to do now.   I paid through PayPal and I don't know how to dispute this through them.  Guess it is time to learn how.

Hi there, JenAquaClear.

We actually don't take PayPal payments for any support plan. The number you shared is not part of our official contact options. You have to be very cautious because there are a number of third-party entities posing as technical support representatives.

I'd also recommend reaching out to PayPal or to your bank to dispute the charge. In the meantime, you can report this case in our Online Security Center. Just go to this link and proceed to the Report an Issue tab: https://security.intuit.com/.

Also, the quickest and most secure way of reaching out to our Technical Support Team is through the Help menu inside QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Give them a brief overview of your concern in the description field.
  4. Click Continue, then select the available options that you can see there.

You can also go to this website to message us if you cannot open your product: intuit.me/qbdt.

We hope to that you'll be able to sort this out with PayPal. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again in the Community if you need anything else.

@JenAquaClear

There are so many fake support numbers. Company only published their numbers +1.877.683.3280 and don't accept any inquiry but sales. I am not sure your file will be repaired. You may have have 2 options now:

1. Contact Intuit Data Service from the Help menu

2. Purchase a reliable 3rd party file repair service. You may send us a private message for this inquiry.

Thank you so much!   I am working with PayPal right now to get my money refunded.

Also, as far as my corrupted data goes is this a problem:

LEDXMLReader.cpp (157) : CHECKPOINT: 7764: Fri Sep 11 09:14:54 LED: LEDConfigFile was either not found or is corrupted

Don't feel bad. I had a run in with one of these scam artists and told them that I refuse to pay for a service that I had bought just 2 months ago. He had the nerve to call me a week later and try again. I called him a jackass and hung up

They did the same to me but because I'm over 50 offered me a 50% discount.
What they didn't tell me that QB 2019 has a feature that fixes corrupted files for free, so yes, this does sound like Intuit.

I'm literally facing the same exact issue today. Intuit Quickbooks has predatory practices, aimed at small business owners who need help. This is our business's first year, and we've spent over a thousand dollars on Quickbooks Online in that time. Now that we have spent another $250 to get the desktop version, we cant transfer our files to it because they are corrupted supposedly. Now "Customer Support" has told us that we need to pay intuit to recover our files. As far as I'm concerned I've received exactly NO services for my money. It is completely unacceptable to be charged for file recovery by the company that was paid to maintain those files in the first place. I'm disgusted with this company's supposed customer support, it is literally a scheme to bleed small businesses of what little money they have. We'll be taking our business elsewhere moving forward.

@Jordon Harvey

You can't convert your data from QB Online to QB Desktop because the file are corrupted?
