Quickbooks 2019 Desktop for MAC compatibility with Big Sur

When will Quickbooks 2019 Desktop for MAC compatibility with Big Sur be resolved? I have been waiting for this update. I purchased Quickbooks 2019 Desktop for MAC just over a year ago and really don't want to pay for another Quickbooks upgrade.

Quickbooks 2019 Desktop for MAC compatibility with Big Sur

Thanks for getting in touch with us today, @b99nafus,

We acknowledge the urgency of having QuickBooks for Mac 2019 to support the MacOS Big Sur. At the moment, we don't have any communication on when our engineers will release the update patch for you to download on your computer.

QuickBooks Mac versions 2020 and 2021 are already compatible with Big Sur. We will wait for the official announcement on when this will be released for your version.

Our developers are working internally to get this available in no time. The alternatives you can temporarily try is to install QuickBooks in a Mac PC that has not yet updated to Big Sur or roll back to an older MacOS version. Please note that these are completely optional until the update is released.

To be updated with the QB Mac 2019 software updates and how to download it, see these links here:

We ask for your understanding and patience while we are working on this concern. This thread will remain open for questions and updates. Stay safe and thank you.

Quickbooks 2019 Desktop for MAC compatibility with Big Sur

Hi, I have 2019 R11 running on Catalina. I have a new computer with Big Sur and have successfully installed 2019 on it. However, I cannot get a backup from my Catalina machine to open on my Big Sur machine following normal backup opening procedures. Am I missing something?

Thanks for joining this thread, Fretking.

To verify my understanding, when you try to restore your backup file, do you see any error messages? Any details like this can help me better understand what's causing the problem.

I'll be looking forward to hearing back from you. Have an awesome day!

I appreciate your prompt reply, Fretking.

The error might be a result of a damaged company file. We can do the Verify and Rebuild Data to resolve this issue.

Before doing so, let's make sure to update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release. Then, create a backup copy of your company file. Once done, you can follow the steps below.

To verify your company file data, here's how:

  1. Go to File Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data, then click OK to close all windows. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check” you need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

After the steps, you can follow these steps to rebuild your company file data:

  1. Go back to File Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data, then click OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK. If you don’t want to do a backup, select Cancel to continue rebuilding your company file.
    • If you haven’t set up any backup preferences, QuickBooks will ask you to update them. Select Backup Preferences and edit as needed, then select OK.
    • When the backup's finished, select Show in Finder to locate the backup or select OK if you’re done.
  4. Once the rebuild is finished, click OK.

If you're still getting the error message, you can rebuild your company file again. This is to make sure your file is free from the error or data damage.

For reference, you can read this article: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please let me know how it goes on your end. I'm determined to get this fixed for you. Stay safe!

Data is verified but no luck opening the file. I get the same message. I can open older backups, but not the most recent.

I'll provide a way you can open QuickBooks, Fretking.

You can move your original company file to a different directory, then proceed to open it in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. If the issue persists, you can restore the backup company file you mentioned.

Follow the steps:

  1. Under the QuickBooks menu, select Preferences.
  2. Choose Backup.
  3. Tap Reveal Backup Folder, then double-click the folder where you save your backup files.

To continue, open this article: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Scroll down and look for Step 2: Restore your backup company file.

@Fretking

It is possible your latest backup file is damaged. Chat Support and ask Data Service to fix it. Otherwise you have to purchase a 3rd party file repair service.
