All,
I tried to open my company file today and I get a pop up message that says it's open in another copy of QuickBooks. I didn't have another one running but I restarted anyway and I still get the message.
~~~
Kelly [email address removed] has the file open in another copy of QuickBooks.
Close the company file in the other copy of QuickBooks. Then you can open it in this copy of QuickBooks.
~~~
I take it there is some lock on the file that needs to be cleared.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks,
Kelly
Confirm your company file is stored on your local drive.
Thanks Joseph, I am on the updated version but it's still telling me to close the other company file that but there is no company file open. Here's the message:
"Kelly [email address removed] has the file open in another copy of QuickBooks.
Close the company file in the other copy of QuickBooks. Then you can open it in this copy of QuickBooks."
Thanks for the reply, Kelly.
I will continue to help you with this issue. Let's check if there are QuickBooks programs running in the background. We can stop them from the Force Quit Applications window.
If there is no QuickBooks program, please contact our Support team. That way, they can start a screen-sharing session to check this further. They are available from 6 AM - 6 PM (PDT) Monday to Friday.
Always visit us back through this thread if you need help again.
My error message is
[email address removed] has the file open in another copy of QuickBooks.
Close the company file in the other copy of QuickBooks. Then you can open it in this copy of QuickBooks.
Background info: I needed to erase my hard drive, and then I restored my mac with time machine. Looks like quickbooks still thinks my previous user account is using the company file, but that user account no longer exists.
Please, please help!
Hi there, civib.
I'm more than willing to help you get past this error so you can access your company file again.
We have to make sure to close your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac entirely and launch it again to see if it works. You can follow JessT's steps by going to the Force Quit Applications window.
Also, I'd suggest reaching out to our Technical Support Team. That way, they'll be able to investigate this further and see what's causing this error.
Keep on posting here if you need anything else. We'll respond as soon as we can.
HI,
This happened to me when I did a little reorganizing of my desktop files. I came to this thread looking for help as well and none of the previous suggestions worked. So I decided to just try something and see what happened. As soon as I moved the Quickbooks file back to it's previous location the problem went away. Maybe the same thing happened to you, or more realistically other people reading this thread who are having this problem because more than likely you resolved this months ago. ;)
Hope this helps someone!
Reese
