Ok, sorry that we couldn't do it in the UI. We'll have to use the terminal.
1. Quit QuickBooks.
2. Open up the terminal application. It's located in /Applications/Utilities on your Mac.
3. Once the terminal application is open, paste in this command line and hit return:
defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks2023 showMatchedInDLTWindow -bool false
4. Launch QuickBooks again and enter online banking.
This command will remove all the already matched transactions from the Download Transaction Window ("DLT" in the command you typed). That's likely what is causing your banking operations to run slowly - you likely have thousands of already matched transactions in place.
When you first start online banking a dialog was presented giving you the option of automatically deleting the matched transactions or not. If you chose "not" then they just tend to build up there - people don't ever delete them (because its time consuming) and once you have thousands of them the window becomes very slow.
If this solves the performance issue please let me know here. If it is the issue I'll work at getting a fix in the product. If it isn't the issue then I'll try to help you find the cause.
Oh - I just noticed the command assumes QuickBooks Mac 2023. For anyone not on 2023 just use the year of the version you have - its the same command otherwise.
Thank you for the information. I was trying to avoid calling customer service because they usually don't have a solution and I end up wasting hours of my time. I will call them when I have 2-3 hours available to burn.
Thanks again for your help. I appreciate you taking the time to share the information and your experience.
Thank you for your guidance.
I copy/pasted this:
defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks2023 showMatchedInDLTWindow -bool false
As you instructed and went back into the banking download and all the matched transactions are still there. Is what I copy/pasted correct?
Thank you.
Ooops I saw this after I saw your comment about 2023. I am on 2022 version. I tried again with this:
defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks2022 showMatchedInDLTWindow -bool false
The matched transactions are still there.
Ok - since you have matched transactions showing up I do think this is the cause of the slowdown. Try this one instead (I've adjusted it to 2022 but other people should use whatever year their version is)
1. Quit QuickBooks.
2. Open up the terminal application. It's located in /Applications/Utilities on your Mac.
3. Once the terminal application is open, paste in this command line and hit return:
defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks2022 QBRemoveMatchedTransactionsOnWindowClose
-bool true
4. Launch QuickBooks again and enter online banking.
Hi, I tried the "defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks2023 showMatchedInDLTWindow -bool false" but it did not work... any other thoughts?
Thank you in advance!
Hi @CEVS, thanks for joining in on this discussion.
It seems that you're having the same issue as the other users with their program running slowly. It's good to know that you've tried the "defaults write com. intuit.QuickBooks2023 showMatchedInDLTWindow -bool false" as suggested above. Don't worry. I've got other troubleshooting ways so you can improve the performance of your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.
First, make sure that your computer meets the operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QuickBooks Mac smoothly, here are our System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023. Just go over to the QBDT for Mac.
Then, update your QBDT for Mac to the latest release. This way, you'll have the updated features and fixes. Then, let's run the QuickBooks Tool Hub to fix uncommon issues in your software. Latency issues in QBDT could be caused by a corrupted company file. To do that, follow the steps below:
For other options, you can visit these links:
If the issue persists even after doing the above steps, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks live support. They can pull up your account securely and initiate a screen-sharing session to identify the issue further and walk you through the resolution. Here’s a link on how you can reach out to them: Contact QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
Furthermore, here's an article about the new features for QBDT Mac 2023 that automate and streamline your daily accounting tasks: What's new in QuickBooks Mac Plus 2023.
You can always get back to us if you have further concerns about the system performance of the program. We're here to assist you anytime, @CEVS.
Actually when I posted I had not tried to quit QBDT after the seminal command...
Now it seems to work I was able to delete the old match transactions.
Add to you instructions.... Open Online Banking, then quit QBDT so it prompts you to delete the matched transactions.
Thank you so much for the solution
You're most welcome, @CEVS!

Quickbooks Tool Hub will not even open on my MAC.
Quickbooks Tool Hub will not even open on my MAC. It is still running so slow it is ridiculous
I understand that this is a difficult situation for you, tmorrow. Resolving the issue of your company file's slow performance is very important to me.
Please know that the tool hub is intended for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. The reason you can't open the .exe file on a Mac PC is due to the difference in software architectures and operating system.
To ensure that the software will run seamlessly, let's review your device system requirements. It needs to meet the minimum requirements to avoid compatibility issues. Check out the pointers I've listed below.
I also recommend reading this article: QuickBooks Mac 2023. Just click the Minimum system requirements and Integration/compatibility requirements section for more details.
Afterward, download the latest product updates to ensure you have the recent update of QuickBooks. Doing this prevents you from experiencing data corruption and file issues. If you haven't tried it yet, here's how you could do it.
Reinstalling QuickBooks can be a helpful step too. It resolves issues related to the program's performance. Visit this article for more details: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using a clean install.

Thank god I found this thread, I thought I was losing my mind! Bulk deleting all the prior matched/downloaded transactions does resolve the most painful parts of the behavior, but weirdness still exists. For example, while working through the list of downloaded transactions, they will all suddenly get greyed out, only to return to normal a few moments later. Also, after entering details for a transaction, the list will suddenly reorganize itself and the cursor will jump to a new/random spot - very nerve wracking. So even after clearing out the old matched transactions, the program still behaves very strangely. Anybody experiencing the additional behaviors I described? Thanks..
The graying may occur if the corresponding register window is front most (instead of the Download Transaction window...). The two interact as you add transactions and if a register entry is being made the Download Transaction window will be inactive. Try switching back to the Download window by clicking on its title bar. If you are part way through entering a transaction in the register an alert will pop up allowing you to discard the entry or continue with it in the register window.
Hi, thanks for that additional information. However, in my case, the graying is occurring while working in the downloaded transactions window ONLY. The register window is simultaneously open, but I'm only working in the downloaded transactions window, going down the list and populating accounts that were not pre-populated.
This actually brings up another question, how do I create a rule to auto-match accounts with downloaded transactions? Is it done through renaming rules? If so, I don't see account information within rules renaming. Thanks.
Hi zach88,
Usually, the account is automatically filled in, but if it's not, you'll need to choose one. This step should be part of the process for creating renaming rules. For more information, please refer to this article: Manage renaming rules for payee names in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
About the graying behavior, I recommend reaching out to our QB Mac Support for a thorough investigation. They have access to additional tools and can study the behavior in more detail. The support team is available weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
Feel free to go back to this thread if you have other questions in mind. Take care and have a good one!
