Every year when I file my tax return with TurboTax online, the QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is a complementary service that came with the filing. As far as I remember, this has been the case going back to 2016 or 2017.
I file my taxes every year in April, so the complimentary QBSE service continues year to year without a break.
Last year year (2020), I filed my taxes in July. So the complimentary QBSE service expired at the end of April. So to keep using the service, I had to pay for its monthly service fee, which I did starting in May. 2 months later, I filed my taxes and was shown that the complimentary QBSE service is still available.
However, I was unable to get the complimentary QBSE service "attached" to my paying QBSE subscription that started in May. So I just let it go, thinking I can fix it later.
Now 8 months later, I finally remember to try to resolve this issue by contacting both TurboTax and QBSE support. To my surprise, both companies say that the complimentary service is no longer being offered starting 2021. That's okay, I filed taxes in July 2020, so my complimentary service should still go through July 2021. I was told no, that because I was dumb enough to pay for the QBSE service in May because it had expired in April, that they can no longer apply any credit or put the complimentary service to my account.
That just seems rather odd. If I was told that I would be getting complimentary service for 1 year starting in July 2020, why isn't anyone able to apply the rest of the remaining complimentary months to my QBSE account? I didn't even ask for refund for the past months I've been paying when I didn't have to.
Any suggestions or am I simply SOL?
Hi there, underlircs.
I can see how important for your business to have the complimentary service added back to your account. Let me help point you in the right direction to straighten out the issue.
Account related concerns require us to collect personal data to open up billing. Since the safety of your account always comes first, I suggest contacting our QBSE Support Team again.
They can check your subscription details in a secure space. From there, our specialists will review the notes of your previous chat/call.
Then, continue performing the troubleshooting steps to resolve the subscription issue. Once the solution is available, they’ll provide the details on how to apply it.

I've already contacted them twice via chat and they said that there's nothing they can do. I then called them and the rep on the phone also said the same thing. They acknowledge the fact that I should have 1 year of complementary service, but says that there's nothing they can do.
I also did some "digging" and saw under the "Products & billing" tab inside Intuit account. It's showing "QuickBooks Online Self Employed" as one of the listed products along with TurboTax and Mint.
When I click on the link under that list, it brings me to the about page, but it shows the message: "something's not working" and "Subscription in Progress". The screenshot is attached.
Hello there, @underlircs.
I understand the fact that you should have to use this service. In this case, since we're unable to investigate your account in this public forum. I'd suggest reaching our Customer Support again to review your account and escalate this hurdle.
From there, they can create documentation and have this investigated and fixed by our product engineers.
I also recommend to review the articles shared by my colleague for reference in managing your account subscription.
Please let us know if you need further assistance after reaching them. The Community is always here to lend a hand. Take care, underlircs.
So a supervisor was suppose to call me back, but no one did for a week.
I called back in and got a reference number and was told the supervisor will call me back when they can.
Is this a joke?
I wish I could make it better, @underlircs.
I'd like to let you know know that our Customer Care Support may unable to initiate a callback as scheduled due to the volume of calls within the day. With this, I'd also recommend getting back to them if you still didn't receive the promise within a day or two.
Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Help Articles for QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I was rather disappointed myself when I realized this. I feel like as a small business it’s silly to pay the higher price for taxes and then also have to pay for the basic QuickBooks. I was really hoping it would still be included. I’m definitely not a big enough business to make it worth the monthly subscription.
yeah Intuit customer service has always been shady. its not the reps faults, the the higher ups know exactly what's going on and they don't care cause they know everyone will still buy their products. scum people really.
