Release 9 (R9_50) Oct 1, 2024 slow to update

We have identified that the issue arises from Windows Defender's real-time scanning. This affects our updates because they require changes to the Windows Registry, an area that Windows monitors closely. No worries,  @SO26. We've got you covered with an effective tool to resolve these problems.

To start, download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and use the Add Defender Exclusion tool.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Installation Issues tab.
  2. Click the Add Defender Exclusion button.

This didn't work for my situation even though it did add the exceptions it wasn't until I disabled Defender that it finished the install in like 30 seconds.

It would be better customer service if Intuit would fix the problem instead of offering multiple, multi step work around for the problem created by their engineers.

I agree a thousand percent! QuickBooks needs competition. We pay more now than ever before. It absolutely sucks. When I did the last update I thought it was simply because I went from 2023 to 2024 but that is definitely not my problem today. Shame on you QB. We are a small company 4computers & I despise the fact QB robs my time!!!!!!

Release 9 (R9_50) Oct 1, 2024 slow to update

I read an article that Windows Defender was causing the slow down -- my install was stuck at 24-25%

Instead of stopping the install, turning off Defender and trying to reinstall, I just turned it off and voila - it finished the install in minutes!

Once the computer rebooted, Windows Defender was restarted

Done!  Took about 5 mins

Well you will be lucky if the update installs in 1 hour. It takes bloody 4- 5 hours for the update to complete. Called QB support midway through the update after 2 hours and the lady says yeah it does take 3-4 hours. And ridiculously these guys are forcing you to update in the middle of the work day where your entire system goes down for 4- 5 hours. This is ridiculous!!

The simplest solution is to turn defender off, then it finishes in seconds....

It appears to be Windows Defender blocking the update. Switching it off (Windows Security > Virus and threat protection > Manage settings > Real-time protection) appears to allow it through at a normal pace.

Same with me - two hours and still at 24%. My internet is high speed and this is my 3rd attempt.  Also a small business and pay a fortune just to do payroll and taxes and look at P&L. Every year this gets worse.

OMG, thank you! Working on this for over two hours. I took your suggestion and switched off WD. The update was completed within seconds.

Mine is at 31% and it seems like it's stuck there.

Disable your Real time protection during the update process.

Your UPDATE Process does NOT work plain and simple. FIX THE ISSUES. It should not take over 2 hours to run a simple product update.

I cannot turn off Real Time Protection, it is controlled by my company in Intune. I think we need different software. Companies just don't live in the world of everything QB's and their software engineers who are oblivious to the real world. I'll bet Intuit employees can't turn off virus protection. Ridiculous!!!

My company has turning off Real-Time Protection turned ON and I cannot turn it off. If I want to exclude QB update process from Real Time Protection, could you please tell me which process to Exclude?????

Release 9 (R9_50) Oct 1, 2024 slow to update

I see that updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QDBT) is challenging because of the Real-Time Protection feature on your computer, @TonyZe. I'll direct you to the best support to exclude QBDT updates.

Since your company controls the anti-virus of your computer, I recommend contacting your organization's IT experts to help you navigate the settings and guide you in excluding QBDT from the update process from Real-Time Protection.

I'll also add this article to ensure your QBDT is up-to-date to avoid service discontinuation: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release

If you want to review your charges and update your payment method, billing information, and email addresses, check out this article: Change, manage, or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

Feel free to return here for more queries about QBDT updates or any related topic about managing the software compatibility of the system in your computer. We'll be willing to lend a hand. Take care, and have a good one.

That sure is a lot of words just to say 'Not our problem. Deal with it in-house'.

@TonyZe

I think we need different software.

Yes. You should unless your company is using a different endpoint security and disable Windows Defender completely  Otherwise, your IT team may blame you for any security breaches in the future.

Release 9 (R9_50) Oct 1, 2024 slow to update

I used the prescribed "workaround" the LAST time I ran an update (it did the same thing then).  Now, it's sitting at 38% for the past half hour.  My computer is exceptionally fast and my internet speed is as fast as I can get (Gig speed).  This is NOT the kind of service I expect for the ridiculous amount of money I spend on Quickbooks annually.  Perhaps it's time to explore other options.  Pencil and paper accounting would be faster and easier.

The previous update to this one was the same story. I tried multiple times, finally too more than 3 hours of monitoring. I ran out of options, because it required me to update after a limited number of times opening the program without updating.

Due to this, I am giving this update before the critical end of year. This update has been stuck at 24% for an hour. I believe this is Intuit's intentional sabotage of desktop products as it continues to push people to OnLine, which I hate.
