Sales Tax showing on packing slip

Been trying to find an answer for this for weeks

How do I remove the words 'Sales Tax' from my packing slips?

I have tried everything I can think of, short of turning sales tax off completely.  I still get these words in my description, it's there by default it seems
Anybody point me in the right direction please?

Sales Tax showing on packing slip

Welcome to the Community, @BPKH.

To successfully remove the sales tax tab on your packing slip in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you have to ensure that it is turned off on your Company preferences. To do that, I'll leave the steps below that you could follow.

  1. On your QBDT account, click Edit.
  2. Then select Preferences, then choose Sales Tax.
  3. Click Company Preferences.
  4. Choosing No on charging sales tax will completely remove the tab on your packing slip.

If you already have performed the following steps above. I suggest opening a sample file, turning off the sales tax, and checking your packing slip template to ensure that the sales tax tab is removed. If you have successfully removed it, go back to your original company file and verify and rebuild your data in QBDT.

If you want to know about customizing templates in QBDT, check this article out: Use and customize form templates in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, if you encounter any issues while customizing the templates, refer to this article for guidance:  Fix common issues when you use and customize templates.

Let me know if you need further assistance with your packing slip in QBDT by leaving a comment below. I’m right here to assist you at any time.

Thanks for your quick reply, I appreciate it.

Will this turn off sales tax for invoices as well for this, and all of our customers?

We still want to charge and show sales tax on our invoices, just not have this 'Sales Tax' showing in the Description box of our printed packing lists

I have attached a screen shot of the Sales Tax showing in printed packing slips, it does not show on our packing slips during the time we are typing them out

Thanks

Sales Tax showing on packing slip

Let me help you with customizing the packing slip template in QuickBooks Desktop, BPKH.

The steps provided by my colleague are to turn off sales tax for invoices as well as for your customers. If the Sales Tax is showing as a separate column in the packing slip, then we can remove the column by unchecking it in the Additional Customization page. See the screenshots for your reference:

Let me show you how:

  1. In your company file, head Lists menu at the top and choose Templates.
  2. This action will open a page that shows the list of various transaction types.
  3. From there, double-click on the Packing slip option to view more options.
  4. Click the Additional Customization button to display the Packing Slip screen.
  5. Go to the Columns tab, then uncheck boxes for Other 1 and Other 2 depending on where the Sales Tax title is.
  6. Press the OK button for the changes to take effect.

Once done, try to print the packing slip for that customer. Let me walk you through some steps.

  1. Go to the Customers menu and select Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet.
  2. Select all your customers' sales orders from the list.
  3. Choose Packing Slips.
  4. Click Print.

That should do the trick. For additional details about this process, check out Use the Sales Order Fulfillment Worksheet. For in-depth information on how to tailor custom forms, export or import one, you can browse through this article: Use and customize form.

If you encounter any roadblocks while using your templates or have other sales-related questions, these links contain solutions on how to troubleshoot the error as well as handles to handle each task:

Keep me posted if you have clarifications about customizing packing slips or adding total weight to the template. I'll get back to help you the best that I can.

Sales Tax showing on packing slip

Hi

Sales tax is not a column
The words 'Sales Tax' show in my Description box when printing.  They do not show on the actual packing slip as I am typing it out.  I've attached another image of this from an actual packing slip

Thanks

Hi there, BPKH.

I'm here to help and make sure this concern is addressed so you can go back to your business.

Based on the screenshot you provided, you can normally remove the "Sales tax" word from the description by editing the Inventory item details. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop and go to the Lists menu.
  2. Choose Item List to view your inventory items.
  3. Locate the specific item that you want to edit and double-click on it to open the Edit Item window.
  4. In the Description field, you will likely see the "Sales tax" word along with the item description. You can delete or modify the description to remove the "Sales tax" word.
  5. Then click OK to save the changes.

If this isn't the case and you already attempted editing the item description, but it still doesn't remove the Sales tax word when printing, you can re-sort the item list to fix any odd behavior.

If the issue persists, we can install and use the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub to fix this kind of issue. I'd also recommend reaching our Support Team so they can look into this further and create a ticket if needed.

Let me know if you still have other concerns about printing packing slips and invoices. I'll be here to help.

  4. Click the Additional Customization button to display the Packing Slip screen.
  5. Go to the Columns tab, then uncheck boxes for Description under Print.

that does not help at all.  It is a pack slip, the description is necessary!  People need to know what they are receiving, it is the entire point of the piece of paper.  But sales tax is totally irrelevant to it.

So what you are telling me is that this is a quickbooks things and they automatically put it there even though we do not want it there.  Most people who see pack slips, in any industry, are not the ones concerned with sales tax and it is very frustrating it can not be removed.

I gave up in the end, wasted a lot of time trying to fix this

It is laughable that Quickbooks cannot sort this out

But hey, we switched to another accounting software because of this bug, we haven't looked back since.

My new software is so easy to use and works well for my 2 small businesses, so far no bugs at all and the learning curve was so much easier than with Quickbooks

If Intuit/Quickbooks doesn't want my money, I'm not going to force them to take it

For those who are facing the same unexplainable and silly issue (and that's me being nice)

You need  to add the Tax field in the Footer, for some reason that hides the Tax in the description on the colums section.
And then you switch the font color of the Tax field to white  (or the color that you need to make it invisible)

Intuit just doesn't care to fix simple issues. (and again that's me being nice)

Sorry for my grammar, english is not my native languaje.

Thank you for this workaround
I'm sure that would work

After almost 25 years of using them, I dropped Quickbooks entirely after being unable to resolve this, and we moved to another accounting software. Best thing I ever did for my 2 businesses that were using QB's

QB's doesn't care about it's small business customers, they have proved this many, many times over the years.

They became too big to care!

Only way you can 'protest' this lack of attention to your customers' needs is to vote with your wallet, and leave QB's in the distant past
