I think I'm doing something wrong with the new top search bar because I can't seem to search for checks using only the check number or customer invoices using only the invoice number. I have to click on Advanced Search, search by reference number and then enter the check or invoice number.

Hello TB_Michelle66,
It would be my pleasure to help you find transactions using the check or invoice number in QuickBooks Online.
Can you share to me what happens when you search using the transaction numbers? Is it showing results after searching or none? Any details you could add would be appreciated.
Ideally, transactions should show when you use numbers through the search function. Let's isolate the issue by performing some basic troubleshooting.
We can start with logging into your QuickBooks account through a different browser. It will help us determine if the problem is related to your browser.
If you're able to use the search function without any problem, please go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This process will remove unnecessary information and will start the system in a clean slate.
Please reach out to me here should you need any additional assistance, I'm here to serve you.
Thank you so much for your response, @TB_Michelle66.
If you've already tried the steps shared by @AlcaeusF and still getting the same result, I suggest contacting our Customer Care team. They have additional tools that can check and review further why you're getting such experience and help you fix this in no time.

Hi TB,
Have you had any luck getting back to the old search bar? This is an on going issue that Intuit thinks they have fixed. We are still trying to get them to fix this for us, and it happened back in July last year to us. They'll try to have you clear a cashe and do other top level things that don't work.
Please let me know if they're able to help.
Hi jceballos,
I tried switching to Mozilla and that seemed to work but just before receiving your email, I was trying to search for a check number and it didn't work. I was in Chrome and did not try switching back to Mozilla. I did not try clearing the cache either.
Please let me know if this helps.
Thank you!
Thanks for getting back to us and sharing the steps you've tried, TB_Michelle66.
I'd love to add to this discussion and provide additional clarification regarding the Search Tool issue.

I found this bug awhile back but just thought it was part of the programming of QBO...
If I print a bunch of checks at once and have QBO assign them check numbers, let's say starting at check "6100" and ending with "6113", I will not be able to search by the the check numbers in the Top Search Bar. The workaround I have found is that I have to search by the value the check is made out for. For instance, when looking up check "6105" which is valued at $3,430.00, I have to search for the 3430 to find that check. Obviously, this is not the ideal solution. BUT when I click on check 6105 and then hit "Save and Close". I am now able to search by check number in the Top Search Bar.
I believe this behavior is caused by QBO not actually saving the check number to the ream of checks being printed. Only after I manually load the individual checks and save them, will I be able to search for them.
Hey there, RCorso24.
Thanks for letting us know the workaround steps you found to search for transactions in QBO. This information will also help other customers who are currently experiencing the same issue.
In regard to the unusual behavior you experience when looking for checks, the issue is still part of the open investigation. Since you’re one of the affected users, I recommend giving our QBO Support Team a quick call.

Is it really work, I think in some cases. But usually you need both.
