So far, I am deeply disappointed with QBO. Have many folks switched to a different bookkeeping program?

For instance, the imported data didn't carry over the account allocations, particularly for payroll, that will require the allocations to be rebuilt for every employee.  I am a volunteer treasurer and don't have the time.

You should switch back to QB Desktop.

This isn't what we would like you to have, CoachOCD.

When switching from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), not all data and history will transfer seamlessly. While most of the financial data, such as transactions, accounts, and balances, can be transferred, there are certain limitations to keep in mind. To better understand how your books will be moved, I recommend checking out this article: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Moreover, I understand that rebuilding the allocations to every employee is time-consuming for you. However, you can still switch back to QBDT. You can export and then convert your QBO data to QuickBooks Desktop. Just a heads up, things will look different after the process. You can check this article for more information about what can and cannot be when you convert: Get more info about what data does and doesn't export from QuickBooks Online.

Here’s how to start converting:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Online account and click the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Export Data and enter your reason why you're exporting your data. Then, click Continue.
  3. Review your data from the export overview screen. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
  4. In the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to Download.
  5. Then, follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to complete the exporting process.

Once completed, you may now switch over to QuickBooks Desktop to import your data. You can use this article as a reference: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to Desktop.

Nonetheless, I understand that when importing data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), it's important to include account allocations. I appreciate your feedback and will note it to help improve our service. You can also send your product suggestions directly to our software engineers to include in future updates.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Settings, then click Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Hit Next to submit Feedback.

We value your input and it is shared with our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO. To track your feature requests, you can visit the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

If you no longer need QuickBooks Online, find out how to cancel your plan.

We value your commitment as a volunteer treasurer and are here to support you in any way we can. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have further questions about importing data in QBO, we're always here to answer any follow-up questions you have. Just leave a comment below, and we'll get back to you. Have a great day!

Thanks for the detailed response. I have been running QBO and QBDT in parallel, so no need to export back to QBDT. I have decided to abandon QBO.

Still, I am baffled why Intuit is pushing a very limiting product.  Must be the bean counters are in charge. Maybe they should try to use it!

@CoachOCD

They designed QB Online with a different approach and perspective. If you're a veteran QB Desktop user, you'll have a hard time getting used to it.

Thanks for the perspective.  QBO is too generalized for me and, suspect many users that, will have to decide to adapt or move to another app.

I do not believe you at all I was told repetitively if I did not switch to the online version all payroll and tax functions would not be supported, strong armed me. Now I just have to deal with an inferior product CHEERS!
