A bookkeeping customer of mine is using Online and wants to switch back to Desktop. We are located in a very rural area of Texas and Internet is sketchy at best.
It is my understanding that the online version is available until the subscription is cancelled...is this accurate information?
Will Quickbooks support be available to assist with the switchback?
Thank you for your help!
Hi @BTN2021,
Welcome to the Community. I can provide some clarifications about migrating data to the Desktop version of QuickBooks.
Under our export policies, you can transfer data to Excel or a desktop version of QuickBooks up to a year after you cancel. While users using a trial version can export within 90 days after cancellation only. For more details, I recommend checking out this link: What happens to my QuickBooks Online data after I cancel?.

Support doesn't offer any conversion service. You may follow the instruction as explained by AlcaeusF to convert data from QB Online to QB Desktop. You may utilize the trial license of QBD 2021 Pro to open the file and purchase the one time license of it later. Another option, you can purchase a 3rd party conversion service.
Hi, I want to convert QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop, I cannot see "Get Started" button in https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt
Further I have contacted customer service chat and they said...
"QuickBooks online on the International version there is no direct option to export QBXML file, On QuickBooks online International you can only export data through excel file or PDF"
Can anyone help and guide how to export QBXML file to convert from QBO to QBDT please...
The converter tool only supports QBO US version. If you are using non QBO US version, you have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service to migrate it to QBO US version as the first step.
Thank you @Fiat Lux - ASIA for your reply, how can I purchase 3rd party service? any steps or guidance please?
Contact us in private for details.
This did not work - my url is https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage and I get a 404 page not found error. I do have multiple accounts if that is the issue
Did you try to convert data from QBO US version to QBD US version? Try opening the link on your private/incognito browser.
Hi there, @jeffrey-r-spring. I'm here to ensure you'll be able to access the QuickBooks Online (QBO) login page without any error.
The error you encounter when accessing the URL might be caused by a cache-related issue. This is a component of the browser that speeds up the loading process when accessing websites. However, there are times that it gets corrupted causing odd behaviors.
To verify, I recommend opening your browser in incognito mode and opening the link. This is a private browser that does not store cache and will give you a clean slate to prevent issues. Below are the shortcut keys that you can use:
Once opened, paste the URL on the address bar to sign in to your QBO account. If you encounter no error, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser to eliminate damaged files. If the same thing happens, I suggest using another supported browser or device to open your account.
When signed in, here's a helpful guide that you can use in moving your data to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT): Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know how the steps go. I'd appreciate any details you can provide. If you have any other concerns about the accessing QBO URL, feel free to post again here. I'm just around the corner and ready to help whenever needed. Have a good one and keep safe.
The issue may be that the address/URL in the browser is simply "https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage?useNeo=true" after I choose the company I want to move to desktop from QBO?
I am switching from Quickbooks Online back to Quickbooks desktop. Everything migrated except the history of payroll and payroll. Please help.
There are limitations when you import your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @jme6. I'm here to shed some light on this and share some insight on resolving this matter.
When you migrate from QBO to QBDT, some specific information and features won't transfer. This includes your payroll history and data from your QBO account. You can read through this article for additional details: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
Additionally, if you've already paid your employees using your QBO account, it's important to add their paychecks and tax payments in QBDT to ensure that your books are accurate. To accomplish this, you can follow the steps below.
Before proceeding, ensure your QBDT Payroll Service is activated to add your prior payroll information seamlessly.
For more detailed steps about the steps mentioned, check out this article: Add payroll info to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll when you already paid employees this year.
If you want to pay your employees and contractors through direct deposit and save time while creating and running their payroll. You can check these articles to help you out:
Feel free to comment on this post if you have other questions about migrating data from this software. I'll be sure to help you out as soon as possible.
