Welcome back to the Community, @davidsontaylor1.

To get rid of that notification, you need to log into your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account as an Admin. Before doing so, ensure that you're in a single-user mode by going to the File menu at the top and choosing Switch to Single-user Mode at the drop-down to complete the update.

Once signed in, here's how to do it:

  1. In QBDT, go to the Help menu at the top to get to the Update QuickBooks Desktop
  2. Proceed to the Update Now tab.
  3. Place a checkmark in the Rest Update box, then hit Get Updates

Once finished, restart the software, then accept the option to install the new release when prompted. For more information about the process, refer to this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Reach out to me in the comment section below if you have any other issues or concerns, and I'll get back to you as quickly as possible. I'm always here to help. Have an amazing rest of the day!

Hi there, jeanneLakesidewater.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community about your concern. Let’s run as the Administrator and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub to get you back on track.

The error message occurs when the file is read incorrectly on a Windows computer. Follow these steps to move past the issue.

  1. Make sure to close all programs and restart your computer.
  2. Navigate to the QuickBooks Desktop icon and then right-click your mouse.
  3. From the options, choose Run as the Administrator.run as admin in qbdt.png

Next, try opening your QuickBooks. If these steps don’t work, download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This utility can help fix many common issues and errors with the desktop program. The following guide outlines the complete steps on how to use the tool: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

For additional resources, these links provide an overview of how to resolve the following.

Reach out to me again if you need further assistance with the product. I’m always ready to lend a helping hand.

I won't rest until you update your QuickBooks Desktop successfully, @llazo.

The error message you've received happens if the file is read incorrectly on a Windows computer. To resolve this, let's perform the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Close all the open programs on your computer and then restart.
  2. Look for the QuickBooks Desktop icon and right-click.
  3. Choose Run as the Administratorrunasadmin2.JPG

Then, to know if you already logged on as Admin, refer to these steps:

  1. Go to the Company tab.
  2. Choose the Users tab and then View Users.

Once confirmed, update your QuickBooks Desktop again.

However, if the notification is still there, let's run the clean install process. To start, you'll need to gather all of your QuickBooks Desktop information (QBDT license number, product number, product year, and version) from your Account Management Portal. Then, you also need to download the installer for your version of QuickBooks.

When done, here's how to begin the Clean install process:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Search for “Control Panel”, then open Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. In the list of installed programs, select the version of QuickBooks Desktop you're having problems with.
  4. Hit Uninstall/Change and then Remove. Tap Next.  If you don’t see this option, sign out and sign back into Windows as an admin (or a user with admin rights).
  5. Once finished, reinstall QuickBooks Desktop.

After you complete this process, log in to your QuickBooks Desktop and update again.

You can also turn on the Automatic Updates feature so QuickBooks will automatically download and installs the latest updates when they're released. For a detailed guide, head to the Update QuickBooks Desktop page at this link.

Please be sure to check back in with me here and let me know how this goes. I'm always around to help you in any way I can. Have a good one.
