Tips for nonprofits?

I used QB many years ago, so I'm somewhat familiar with how to get around. For the first time, I'm setting up a company for myself. I've looked around the support site and I see some things that I'll dive into, but as a nonprofit (exempt), I wanted to make sure I don't miss anything. Any suggestions for setting up accounts, etc. as a nonprofit? Any recommended 'do this first' steps?

I'm using Quickbooks Desktop for Mac.

Thanks,

Chris

I'd be glad to help you set up your company as a nonprofit in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, @SusCSRA.

Before you install the software, ensure to check and prepare the following:

Then, start installing and setting up your company file. Let me show you how:

  1. Download your QuickBooks Desktop for the Mac version or use the CD installer (if purchased from a retailer).
  2. Close all applications.
  3. Open the installer or insert the disc into the Mac CD drive. The QuickBooks installation window starts automatically.
  4. Move the QuickBooks icon to the Applications folder. The Applications folder opens automatically.
  5. Choose the QuickBooks figure to open the application.

For detailed steps, feel free to review this article: Install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. It also includes information so you can set up a multiuser mode that allows multiple users to work on a company file all at once from different workstations.

Once you create your company file, you can personalize QuickBooks for your business. Here's are relevant articles you can review that can help you get started managing your account:

Feel free to get back to this post if you have other questions about setting up your company file. I'll be happy to help you again. Stay safe and have a pleasant day!

Thanks for all the information, Rubielyn_J. I'm doing some juggling, so I've not yet had the chance to look through all the resources you provided, but it looks pretty comprehensive. I'll post back after my review.

Cheers,

Chris

Tips for nonprofits?

Hi,

I just got QB for Mac. I had the QB Non-profit edition for years and now I do not see that option in teh Mac edition.

I have found something online, but I can't find settings (gear icon) anywhere.

At this point I want my $ back and return to the PC version.

@MUSYCA

QBD Mac has the features similar to QBD Pro. You won't find the Non Profit feature on QBD Mac. You should ask the refund for your new license and buy QBD Premier instead. You can still buy a new one time license for QBD 2021 Premier from several partners.

Thank you for your reply! That is what I was afraid of.....have a beautiful new imac and can't use it for our non-profit. Wonder why QB wouldn't do Mac non-profit edition.

Thank you for your reply. That is what I was afraid of and the worst part is that Techsoup would not refund $ as this was a download version. Silly that Mac users have less option.

I'm in the same boat, but solved it by adding Parallels Windows to my MB Pro and installing QuickBooks Premier (PC) with the Nonprofit Edition. Clunky, but it works on the Mac so I don't have to keep two computers working and handy.
