Why does Intuit make changing my account name so difficult?

I use QBD 2020 Prem R13

I have a valid and registered license which shows active when I logon to my Intuit account.

When I setup QB I setup a first test company and, not knowingly what problem this will cause with my account, used the test company as the account name as well.

We never used the test company but rather changed the company, which now is doing business since 2019.

When I went into my Intuit account to change the company name I had to learn what information is required, even having to send passport and bank information to show that I am the legitimate owner of the license. Well, Intuit has my e-mail address, logon details, shows my license number with status active, and probably even has some company file details as well, thus, has everything that identifies me as the license owner.

So, why would I have to provide all the above information, even the reason for the change of name to Intuit? I don't get it.

The account name should not matter, the active license, my e-mail and my logon should!

Can somebody explain to me, why Intuit make a name change so difficult?

Why does Intuit make changing my account name so difficult?

I read all your PR pages and the document you forwarded.

However, my change of the account name should be up to me if I have logged onto my online account. It should be handled the same way as changing my phone number or e-mail address. And I further wonder why I need an account name to identify myself on my online account.

I also have a problem with having to provide ID or passport and bank information for this change.

Lots of other online accounts send an SMS to a cell phone to verify the legitimaty of a change, why don't you do that the same way.

Thank you for your prompt reply, gerdgoebel.

I'd like to add some additional details about changing the account name.

We know that updating the company information is important for your business. The reason why you're required to supply these documents is because your account name is linked to your Intuit account. This holds your business information, like your EIN and subscription, which is created when you purchase or sign up for the product or service.

To get more insight about the process, please check out this guide: Update business or contact names on your account. The article also includes how you can manage or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

Please feel free to post a reply if you have any additional questions or need help with other task in your account. We'll be around to assist you. Take care and stay safe.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify, I don't have a subscription, and I never provided an EIN!.

When I setup the test company in QBD I had entered an EIN, but again that was for a test company. And after it was a test company we have not used it since setup and are not going to use it.

But after you seem to have an EIN, probably from our current company file, you should also see that our company name is a totally different one and has nothing to do with the company name of the test company.

When I read your PR material about all you do for security, its just "jargon" without substance.

I want to make another example about needing (or not) a password when logging into a company file. Even here I think it should be up to me and not up to you if I want a password or not. I am on a secure system, thus, I don't have a need for a password. But the point I wanted to make is, I copied a company file into a test file, removed all bank, and CC details, don't have any online downloads setup, basically having removed all your requirements that need a password, but still, I cannot get rid of the password on the test company (and I am not the only one complaining about this in the forum).

I remember the time when I started with QB in 2009, liked the product, but I was in charge of what I wanted to do with my company file and not Intuit. Today, it's the other way around, Intuit dictates what we HAVE to do, and we don't have any options otherwise.
