we have over 1500 items in QB - will need to manually adjust price to each then come up with a discount,
thank you QB for removing Price Rules, you're definitely making it Hader every other update .
So the software engineers are once again dictating what they think is best without listening to the folks that need to do the work. Y
is this update coming to essentials customers too? or if i downgrade to that, can i avoid this mess?
Yes, this new invoice experience update is also coming to QuickBooks Essentials customers, chris432. Let me give you more details about this.
Starting April 24th, Simple Start and Essential users will all be migrated to the new estimate and invoice layout with no option to return to the old or classic layout. The same goes for Plus and Advanced subscribers (both new and existing subscribers) starting May 6th.
To learn what invoice features are currently unavailable in the new experience, please see this article: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
Furthermore, the Price Rules feature is still on beta pace and isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Simple Start and Essentials. You can check out this article for more details: Set price rules in QuickBooks Online.
Also, I've included this article to guide you in receiving invoice payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if you have other feature concerns or questions about the price rules feature and the new invoice and estimate layout in QuickBooks. I'm always one post away if you need further assistance.
Can you name a 3rd party app that has the ability to create invoices and has some price rule features that will sync with QBO. The app store in QBO is very inadequate and hopefully you have some insight.
Why can no one give us an answer as to when this will be fixed??? This is senseless to being paying for a software program that does not work. Furthermore, the inconvenience and manual work around that has to be done to make this work is crazy! Please just give us an answer as to when QB will fix the Price Rules.
What if this is not a reoccurring invoice. Then what?? How do you get the Price Rules to work? My company has to apply a discount to each and every line item because there are multiple discount structures. Do you have a solution for this?
Hi there, @orders15.
Regarding your other concern, we're unable to suggest an alternative specific software you can use for creating invoices that has price rule features that will sync with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
There are various third-party applications available for integration with QBO, each having unique features designed to cater to specific needs. Let me guide you on how you can look for an app that will fulfill your requirements:
Additionally, if you want to know how to add discounts to your items when creating sales receipts, you may find this article helpful: Add a discount to an invoice or sales receipt in QuickBooks Online.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns with managing your invoices in QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help. Have a good day!
Yes, actually I do have a question. Why should we have to go through a third party app to get the discounts when QB already had it? Then the engineers destroyed the QB application by getting rid of the Price Rules. Can you even sense the frustration we all have going through this? I sincerely hope these engineers are reading this!
Let me clarify things regarding using the third-party app to achieve your goal of applying price rules to your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO), ShariekP.
I believe you're fully aware of the ongoing interface updates of the invoices and how applying price rules to an invoice is currently unavailable in QBO.
Therefore, integrating a third-party app into your QBO account is another way to apply price rules in your invoices.

IreneR, I am more than fully aware of the ongoing QB interface updates and price rules issues. I have been sending Feedback from the Gear Icon and clicking on Feedback. I do this multiple times a day. The squeaky wheel gets the grease or so they say. As you can see, I am posting in the QB Community continually asking for updates. I have also been on the phone for hours speaking with the “Priority Circle”. I urge other QB users to post to the Feedback and call the “Priority Circle”. Again, in hopes that this issue gets raised to the highest level and dealt with promptly. You have no idea how time-consuming this is without the Price Rules. Did the engineers think about what effect there would be by doing this??
@Shariekp Over the past few months, Intuit has made it clear that they are committed to not listening to their customers regarding Quickbooks. Around January the customer outrage at the new invoices was so bad that Quickbooks reinstated the "Use Old Layout" button temporarily in response to the backlash, but that was only temporary. I don't know what they expected to change about customer opinions between then and now, but they've now removed that feature showing that they know what a horrible product they've put out there but expect us to just keep using it anyway. So we've decided to move on to a different software that is actually concerned about putting out a functional product.
Funny thing is, once we started looking into different software we found that so many out there are better and cheaper. Check out Freshbooks, Xero, Taxdome, Wave, even Netsuite. You'll find a better option out there for less.
How can we escalate this problem???
This changeover only removed features from the invoice layout. We are also unable to "Make A Copy" from within the new layout as well. "Print and download" opens in another tab instead of within the same window requiring a back and forth changeover. Most importantly, we need price rules back. What is the purpose of being able to create price rules if we are unable to apply them?
RE: Over the past few months, Intuit has made it clear that they are committed to not listening to their customers regarding Quickbooks.
Spot on. They appear to be hell-bent on a succession of 'improvements' that are not improvements. It's as if they might have had reasonable plans to start with, but then ran out of time to actually implement those plans and so just decided to do something lame instead. Or, possibly they are just so out of touch with how their product worked and was used that they just don't get it.
Either way, it is difficult to believe they're actually listening to any of the feedback they're getting or that much of anyone sees any of the new stuff as better.
@lteruya1 All of these issues have already been documented here on this message board. People have "escalated" the situation through the useless "Feedback" feature that the Quickbooks team here tells everyone to use. So they are aware. They've known for months how horribly these changes break their product, particularly the removal of price rules from invoices which I know has had an issue "Ticket" assigned to it for about a year. They are not interested in fixing it.
Quickbooks has signaled that it is not going to improve. Other accounting software programs out there are fortunately filling the void.
@PBJ10 I agree. We have also thought about another software program, however, it kills me because we've got so much time and money invested in QB. But it is on the table for discussion.
This is literally the WORST change they could have made. Not one of my estimates/invoices is going to be correct without a lot of work. And you can't even run a report on your price rules that are in the system.
I’m having the same issues with my invoices as well, it just started yesterday. We used to at least have the drop down option to add the percentage for mark up but we don’t even have that option anymore. We just went from quickbooks desktop to quickbooks online in January and it’s HORRIBLE! I wish we had another option but we’ve used this for so long idk if we could even switch to something else. We’ve even had payments un-apply them selves from invoices that are like 2 yrs old and are now showing as credits and like that invoice was never paid. It’s ridiculous. Im pretty tech savvy so this is really frustrating that I can’t fix this and it seems that several members of the help team can’t figure it out either.
I appreciate what you've done so far, AndieT. I understand how beneficial it is for your business to have this feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
As of the moment, the dropdown option for mark-up is currently unavailable. As a workaround, you can manually add a mark-up on your invoices by adding a line item. Here's how:
While this option isn't available, I recommend sending feedback directly to our engineers so that it'll be included in the upcoming updates.
Here's how:
Once submitted, you can track your feature request through QBO Feature Requests website.
In addition, you can check out this article if you want to personalize and add specific info to your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
I'll keep an eye out for your reply. If you have further questions about managing your invoices or any QuickBooks-related concerns, feel free to include them in the comments. We're here to assist you 24/7.
@PBJ10 Have you decided to switch to another accounting program? If so, what has your experience been? I've been researching others including the desktop version of QB. Apparently, if we switch to the desktop version this will be $5000 - $7000 a year for Enterprise. But who know if this nonsense is going on with the desktop version too.
@AndieT OMG! This is scary and out of hand now. I have had pricing and data unapplied after saving it. I also have been getting an error message "Your invoice can't be saved because it is calculating taxes." This was even a tax-exempt customer.
Clearly it is not you that can't fix this. It is QB that needs the fix. I think this time they really broke it now.
OMG. Seriously???
It was bad enough Price Rules didn't work on the mobile app because who wants the same functionality on a mobile device? Now you have changed the invoices so Price Rules don't work at all? What is the point in even having the feature if it doesn't work with the invoices?
I have provided more feedback talked to tech support on this and a dozen other issues that are table stakes and I have never gotten a reply or acknowledgement it was even received. This is completely unacceptable and the product managers should be fired immediately for allowing an "enhancement upgrade" to go into production while providing no useful changes and at the same time reducing functionality. Not only do you completely miss addressing the concerns that have been articulated for years in this forum and other communications methods, the teams manage to add more serious flaws to the system with each release. If you were taking our concerns seriously, there would be a tier 3 person and product manager on this ASAP. Clearly all the enhancements are around making sure you have connections to social media. That's the really important stuff after all.
This release must be rolled back immediately to the prior version if you can not resolve the multiple issues that have been raised. For future consideration, giving us the options to choose what version we want to run would be a start in the right direction. At least with the prior version, I was able to work around the many issues to at least run the business. Now we are have to create more work arounds for the work arounds to even function.
Oh, and telling us how the function is suppose to work by posting the link prior to the change taking place is an insult to every one who reads these posts. But no, that wasn't enough to fully enrage people. Let's just send them to the same area we have all been to where you can post your concerns that NEVER get read let alone acted upon.
if we switch to the desktop version this will be $5000 - $7000 a year for Enterprise
You can use QB Desktop Pro Plus or Premier Plus to use the Price Level feature.
Otherwise, you can use a CRM app with the price rule feature to integrate with QBO.
It is essential for us to have price rules on Invoices. When are you going to fix it?
So now you are forcing customers to use a higher plan to get the feature?
I acknowledge how this feature is essential for your business needs, Epygi. In QuickBooks Online, you can still create price rules. However, applying them to the invoice in the new layout experience is unavailable.
We don't have a specific timeframe for when this feature will be available in the new invoice experience. Our dedicated product development team will review your feedback and work on this concern. Your input is highly valued and appreciated.
See the attached screenshot below if you want to send feedback.
As a workaround, you can manually calculate the discount, create a service item for the markup, and then add it to your invoice.
To set up a service item:
Now, let's add the discount item each time you select a product on the invoice page. Please see the attached screenshot for visual reference.
Another alternative is to look for third-party apps that offer this feature as an alternative solution.
Here's how to access it in your product:
Furthermore, you can visit these informative articles as a guide to managing your invoices:
Rest assured that you can now work on your invoices promptly with the workaround provided. I'm always here to give any assistance you may need.
