Removing attachments from Customer accounts

Why can I not detach some attachments in QBD?  I can detach some attachments, but not others. I click on the attachment and click the detach button but nothing happens. When I try to remove the attachment in the Doc Center I get an error message "can't remove attachment".

Removing attachments from Customer accounts

I'm here to ensure you can remove the attachments, George. I'll lay down the troubleshooting steps to get past this error message.

 

There's an issue with your company file's data that's causing the error when removing some attachments. I recommend running the Verify and Rebuild utility. The tool scans data issues within the company file and self-resolves them.

 

Beforehand, make sure to create a backup copy. I'll help you restore the copy if an issue occurs.

 

Aside from that, it's also best to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is up-to-date. This way, you always have its latest features and fixes. 

 

Once done, follow the steps below on how to verify data:

 

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Click OK if QuickBooks detected no problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, click Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

 

Next, here's how to rebuild data:

 

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data.
  4. Click OK if you receive a prompt to back up your company file.
  5. Click OK when the rebuild has been completed, then proceed to the next step.
  6. Re-run Rebuild Data to make sure there's no error.
