Hello there, @kristin.thrift.
Yes, QuickBooks updated the 1099 NEC form to print 3-part 1099s as there was a change in the printing format this year.
For further details about 1099-NEC, here's an article from IRS: Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC. It contains the complete set of instructions and the latest information about the form.

I am unable to print 1099's. The 1096 prints just fine after going through the wizard, but the 1099's won't print. Haven't had a problem before this year. I've made sure all updates are current, tried restarting QB and even restarted my computer. No luck. Help please!!
I'll make sure you're able to print your Form 1099s, @Queen0fCheese. This way, you can file them on time and keep your account updated.
Based on your description of your issue above, I can tell that you want to print 1099s using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I did all of that twice and I still can't print my 1099-NEC forms, your chat is not open and the call center doesn't call back.
I"m having the same issue. I've done that process of updating twice and I still can't print the 1099-NEC forms. It comes out in 1099-MISC format.
Also, your chats are closed and no one returns calls on the "call-back" feature.
I went back to check the "Critical Files" update to see if it shows it was downloaded. It said "pending". I turned off the computer and restarted, then it showed "Error #15240"
What do I do?
Hi there, @CGreaver.
Thanks for posting in the Community and following the suggested steps above. I'm here to help make sure you can print your Form 1099-NEC in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
The error 15240 is usually caused by misconfiguration of the Internet Explorer security settings, firewall settings, or system date and time settings. To fix the error, run QuickBooks as administrator. Just right-click the QuickBooks icon on your Desktop, then select Run as Administrator.
If you're still getting the same result, follow solution 2 to 5 in this article: Fix Error 15240.

Just want to make sure I give you the best fix for printing your 1099-NEC form. Were you able to select the Reset Update box while updating your QBDT as suggested by my colleague Rea_M above? ? If not, I recommend redoing the process and ensure to select the Reset Update option.
If you have, and the issue persists, you'll want to restart your QBDT for the updates to take effect. Restarting your computer also helps fix the issue.
After that, you can print your 1099s whenever you're ready.

I did all of the above. Now my Map Vendor payments accounts page has all box 15 and will not let me change it.
Hi MBCC21!
I know the reason why they are all mapped to Box 15. Allow me to help you.
Please note that QuickBooks Desktop only allows you to map one account to one type of 1099. We'll need to remove these accounts from the 1099-MISC so you can use them in the 1099-NEC.
Follow these steps:
Once done, go back to the 1099-NEC account mapping and you should be able to select the appropriate box for these accounts.
In addition, I added these articles to help you in preparing 1099 forms in QuickBooks Desktop:
Shoot me a reply if you have other concerns with tax forms. Take care!
1. That's ridiculous!
2. I don't classify transactions based on whether it's a 1099 payment or not!
3. My chart of accounts is for helping the company manage their business... not be driven by the IRS!
4. If I can only use one account for 1099-NEC payments, then even if I pay a local plumber for the EXPENSE of working on my drains and would normally classify that expense to the account "Maintenance" or "Facilities" or something, now I'm forced to classify it to the special account for 1099-eligible payments.
5. Y'all need to imagine a world without government mandates and maybe write software that serves the user.
Hi I have tried many of the updates on the system, but to no avail. Can you assist or walk me through trying to print the 1099 nec form?

Thank you for the updates however they did not work I still have the same 1099 nec format (old).
Thank you for getting back to us after updating your QuickBooks version, @Marvel450. Let me add some information to get an updated 1099-NEC.
Since you're still getting the old format, let's ensure that you installed the latest release versions of QuickBooks Desktop. These updates are needed so you can print the new format of 1099-NEC. Press F2 on your keyboard and check the following:
If you're using QuickBooks Desktop in multi-user mode, instruct your users to sign out for a bit, then log in as an administrator to finish the upgrade. If you have an anti-virus or firewall, check the settings and ensure the download isn't blocked.
If you're still getting the old format, make sure to check and troubleshoot the settings in QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer. Then, set up QuickBooks Desktop's firewall and internet security settings.
Now, if you're still getting the old format, I recommend contacting our customer support so an agent can check and see your file.
Once it's fixed, you can now continue creating and printing your 1099 forms.
