Upgrade older QB file

I have QB simple start 2009. I had to upgrade my computer and reinstalled the program. My backups files now wont work on the QB program and are saying they are newer versions (R13) than the version I have installed (R3). I tried to move the files online but that wont open my files either. Im happy to pay and move to the online version but I need help getting my files to open. Please help!

Upgrade older QB file

Hello, Jodi!

Congrats on upgrading your computer! I will share insights about your situation so you can use your backup files.

Version 2009 is too old and is no longer compatible with the new Windows ecosystem. That’s why you can’t open your backups. I suggest contacting our QB Desktop Support so they can help you to convert them to a supported version before moving your data to QuickBooks Online.

  1. Click on Help and choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Type in convert company files and click Continue.
  4. Select Message an agent or Get a callback.

We also have video tutorials for the online product for your visual reference.

Good luck with this! Just keep in touch if you need assistance.

You need to utilize the trial version for QBD 2011, 2015 and 2019 respectively to upgrade your file and migrate it to QB Online. Contact us in private and we may share the trial codes.
