Upgrading from QB NUE 5 for Mac to Online

I'm working with Intuit to upgrade my ancient QB New 5.0 file for Mac to the latest online version. The file is being stepped up, but all the transactions after 1999 have disappeared (that's a lot of transactions obviously). Anyone have a suggestion on how to recover those?

Thanks for posting to the Community, @mikecoyotees.

Let me share some insights on how you can migrate the file for Mac to the latest online version.

Usually, we can upgrade the version of the file and then import and export data in QuickBooks. Since the entries disappeared, I suggest seeking assistance from an IT expert to retrieve the transactions. They know how to restore the transaction data well.

You can also seek professional advice from an accountant when you need help with what files and data should be kept to make the business running.

I also encourage you to Message Us directly to recheck for other services we can provide to recover your prior QuickBooks NUE 5 Mac data.

I've added some references that you can run to whenever you need the details about Intuit Data Services:

QB NUE 5 _should_ still be imported by the more recent versions of QB Mac. However its always possible the file has errors.  You can try importing it into the trial version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac available on qblittlesquare.com.   But you'll need to be running Catalina or Big Sur to run the trial.

Check our profile name and send your business email address in a private message to us. We may evaluate your file to find a workaround.

I have a QBO Caresupport person working with me on the upgrade, but we've hit a wall with the data/transactions not coming though, and no detectable data damage. Are there any other steps through Intuit I can take to retrieve the data?

Let's try other possible ways to bring back your data, mikecoyotees.

The gap between the two (2) QuickBooks Desktop versions upgrade causes you to get these file errors. You'll want to use the import and export Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) feature to transfer your data smoothly. Let me show you the steps.

To Export IIFs:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an admin.
  2. Go to File, then select Export.
  3. Select Lists to IIF File, then select the list you want to export.
  4. Select OK, then enter a name for your IIF file.
  5. In the Where dropdown, select a location to save your IIF file into, then select Save.

To Import IIFs:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an admin.
  2. Go to File, then select Import.
  3. Select From IIF Files, then export your IIF file.

From there, you can now convert your Desktop for Mac file to the Online version.
